Powerprobe: What Does It Do & How To Use It

what's up guys today we had a viewer request to do a video on how to run a power probe and how to use it so we got an old truck here and we've been doing some electrical work on it so what a great time to shoot a video what we have here is the power of probe 3 we're gonna show you guys how to work this bad boy so come on [Music] look here this thing's been sitting for like seven or eight years and the customer towed it in and got it running and all the taillights have been cut on it because they took the bed off and just left it sideways come to find out the reason why this truck was parked for so long as the high pressure fuel pump that's on this side of the rail was actually out and they replaced the fuel pressure pump in the tank back there which was a low pressure pump so anyway we're drinking in here we got it fired up for the old dude and he asked us to get the taillights wired back in so that's what we did so like I mentioned in the intro there was a guy was wanting to know about how to use a power probe so today we're gonna show you guys how to use a power problem the variegata hooked up we'll disconnect it and see how that works but we have a 12-volt blower motor fan and that we can use the power and we're also going to show you how to use the power probe to find hot wires and also ground wires so only while I take it over and he's gonna show you guys how to hook it up it's foolproof it's what we proof even in screwed up Kennywood can't screw it up can you yeah you can't show them what is all about wow man Wally alright you say there's no lights no power no nothing we're gonna hook it up backwards just to young say that's fine wearing John here we got a lot of work to do so he's thinking the negative to the positive and he would say nothing no pre and he hopes that the right way BAM it sings your song now cheap some light challenge in kind of a little trick is you don't even necessarily have to have it all plugged up right there it'll should still oh I'm not gonna backwards went over my head dude that I guess not this one yeah good update so we don't drink this so you got negative this plays negative when you have positive and actually displayed thanks for battery voltage all right so what he's referring to it's say the plus sign that's positive and it shoots a red light and then green foreground that's also a minus so it's easy easy there's all kind of different settings in here and when he's got it on his wall you can apply positive voltage by pushing the UP button or apply ground by pushing the ground side and they also got a built-in circuit breaker say you're on a high and you apply power she won't do nothing no more this puffed up with Sun we said show them how it works like I'm like over here if you're looking for the hot wire she's better voltage this one who shows brown there that's your starter solenoid on this vehicle seven and the cool thing is what makes the power probe such an awesome tool is like this right here is a two wire plug you see one's a hot ones a ground obviously so I'm gonna hold it and Walia show you how to use it to make sure that your so your blower motor plans working one good thing about power probes that come with a handy little ground right there is ground all the time what we want to do we can hook up the ground you see right there it shows no power there you can buy power voila symbolism just like that lightbulbs fuel come on grab that fuel pump I'm gonna show a little bit and you can turn the sound off like you're looking for a hot wire to beat and drive you crazy so you can turn the sound off by mashing that button will have here is the fuel pump that actually came out of this truck that was in the tank how'd you do that at night I'm here the beach yeah knowing that yes that stays off all right so a power probe is a very very very useful diagnostic tool that we use a lot just like on this truck they give that kick as well be little steel soldering these wires together let's tell how good it can be been doing so while veal has done all the solder together so all you'd have to do to make sure you know they're color-coded of course the green yellow and brown on but like if you didn't have the color code you could apply ground with the little ground clip that's on there and then you can apply power on this to see which light bulbs illuminate whether it's your turn signal your reverse light or your brake line while bill yeah good job thank you all right so another addition that you can add to your arsenal besides just a regular digital voltmeter which is a great tool and the power probe in it and does a lot of the things that a voltmeter will do but there's still a lot lacking in a voltmeter that the power probe can fly another tool that we're going to talk about in another video is the load probe tell my us on the lowepro videos that right there with a good priceless and actually the new if i'm not mistaken the new power probes i think it's never used one don't know how it works some people maybe you can comment down there let us know let me show you got a load Pro load probe Luke's life and this is a NAPA version of it and it applies resistance when you manage this bulb you remember how many ohms of resistance do you remember how many 25 ohms it applies you know resistance well I said he thought it was 25 ohms to the circuit and like a prime example of how awesome that was was working on a jeep one day and we was getting power through the wire but once she put a little bit of resistance on it she'd
