hello there today we're going to talk about sharkbite fittings they've been on the market for a while you can buy sharkbite fittings in any shape or form in comparison to copper fittings or plastic fittings as in water lines sure I'd even make a few extra fittings that are not as common there are four examples a three-quarter inch check valve spring-loaded check that's not a popular item but they do make it the nice thing about shark bites is they are quite simple to use if you use in plastic for example they slide on very easily there's a small insert that comes with each sharkbite fitting something that you is a must actually is to know the depth that the fitting slides over the pipe you have to know how far the pipe actually goes in because if not it'll actually hook on the the rim inside and it won't pass the o-ring because that's that's all it makes your seal in these fittings you just simply measure out for example half inch fitting is roughly seven eighths of an inch is how deep it goes I usually just put a spot there there's a tool that you can buy at the hardware store and it's $35 to purchase the tool when you buy the fittings usually one of these clips comes with it so I just put the small dot there and that plastic sleeve is in place and that's it it's on there now if we want to remove it it's a matter of taking your clip sliding it over and the plastic retracts and allows teeth to relax inside the fitting and you simply pull it up take it off a few great things about sharkbite for example these extension couplings they would repair say a pin hole in a copper pipe if we had a pin hole in a copper pipe and you cut this section of pipe out you could take this sharkbite slide it down past the piece that's cut out and then if you can imagine this put it like so slide it back over slide it back and it would go into the the other piece therefore you would not have to you would not have to remove any any more of the copper sharkbite works great if you have a little leak you know if you worry about the water situation it comes with a sleeve if you are using it on copper you should remove the sleeve inside I believe the sleeve is put there to fit into the the plastic because plastic has a tendency of expanding five times more than copper dose and the sleeve helps to keep the plastic tight against the o-ring here we have a 1/2 inch tea course I didn't remove the sleeve and you must remove the sleeve if it's copper you should remove the sleeve that's copper sometimes you have to move around a little bit make sure of the coppers there and that's it it's it's that simple these extended couplings I know for a fact there was one situation where these slip and couplings went in and three years later they were still there and everything was fine they recommend the for underground I personally wouldn't use an underground I don't think I would use them as a permanent solution for doing my plumbing and my host I may be wrong with that but personally I'm I'm not a fan of that they're great for repairs for example if you had just a set of cutters and you had a leak on the weekend you didn't want to call a plumber out just take your cutters cut off your copper pipe mark off your 7/8 of an inch slide it over you turn your water back on and you're good to go the half-inch the pipe goes in seven eighths of an inch 3/4 goes in an inch and the one-inch goes in an inch and a quarter that's all there is to sharkbite it's very simple the other thing is if you don't have your clip you could take just a basic pipe pipe clip put it over squeeze the fitting so that the plastic comes back and it's out they say you can reuse them if it was installed for a period of time I don't think I'd you reuse them but if you want to cap something off for a few days take the cap off I think you'd be all set I know there's one Hostin ticular my son has and there is 12 sharkbite fittings that's how they repaired us I'm hoping to get there someday to change it up but it's working fine right now and sharkbite is the way to go I guess but that's all I have to say about them just don't forget with copper take your sleeve out with the plastic make sure that your sleeve goes in the pipe and happy shark biting have a good day thank you
