Everything You Need to Know about Sharkbite Fittings!

[Music] hi everyone jim artcheco our checko homes team today i'm going to talk to you about a very interesting product and invention that has changed the do-it-yourself plumbing business i'm going to talk to you about the push connect fitting there's a few brand names out there the ones we have here on the table are the shark bite brand apollo makes some there's a bunch of other ones but they're all pretty much the exact same thing and they work all the same way and they're all unit universal and can be used interchangeably now the beauty about these fittings is they will connect copper packs um cpvc it'll tell you right on the bag what's acceptable for them to connect and these are real easy to use they're reusable um i wouldn't recommend personally using them more than a couple of times you know if you have to take them off there's removal tools which i have here to take them off and you can again like i said reuse them or take them off and reseat them so what you and what you have here is you have a brass fitting get you a little closer to the camera you have a brass fitting this is a brass shark bite t i know you can't see me but i want to show you this a little bit here so you got one end one end and one end and that makes the t now inside here you see a little nylon that is to slip inside the pex pipe now if you're using copper some of these say you're supposed to pull the nylon out some do not i would read them um and do what the manufacturer says so what is inside of here maybe i'll get you a better look here where we have a nylon already pulled out of this tee if you can see and then i'm going to tip it a little bit for the light there you see the little shiny things in there those actually grab the pipe and there is o-rings underneath there that seals around the pipe and you cannot pull this off this is actually a used shark bite that i took off and i'm going to show you right now that it can be reused so they're real easy fitting here okay so basically what you're going to do this one is the nylon say this was your pipe coming out of the wall which this is a piece of packs you are literally just going to slide that on and push it's going to go on about an inch and you want it to go on about an inch and you can't take that off so say you had to connect you know you're making a t here so you had to put a piece of copper on the nylon is pulled out of this one because that's what the manufacturer said and this copper will slip right in pretty easy snug and again it won't come off the pipes will spin but there will be no leaks and you can make just about anything you want this is a tee they're all slipped in now watch this there's a couple of ways to take this all apart very easy this is a shark bite removal tool and it goes on there's two sides to it you gotta make sure you get the right side just like that i'm gonna set this down here you're going to squeeze this and then pull the pipe out and you can see on that pipe see how far in it went and you can see those teeth marks can you see those teeth marks that's the actual shark bite grabbing that piece of copper now it's still a great idea to clean your copper before you stick it in like you would if you were soldering with you know sandpaper and everything packs just make sure that it's a clean cut on the packs because it it just seats better and again same thing it just pulls right out so you can reuse these just about any time you want or if you had to do a quick repair now they make all sorts of fittings this is a reducer half inch to three quarter inch so you'd get your half inch in there and then you'd attach onto your three quarter inch they make shutoff valves for underneath your sink just about any fitting out there right now is available in a push to connect fitting and sometimes they're a little harder to get out like this one wants to be a little bit of a bear but they do come out again i wouldn't recommend using them too many times but if you don't think you've got it seated right or anything you can take it all apart they're a great replacement for when you cannot solder a pipe due to water being left in it and you can't get the solder to go around it and the pipe to heat up properly because you can't get the water out of the pipe these are a great alternative there they're great for you know changing out a vanity you know if you're going to sell your home or you just bought a home you want to change out the vanity and your your shutoffs are no good shark bites are a great way to replace your existing ones make sure you shut off your main water valve first though so they come in a bag like this at the store they pretty much tell you what they'll connect they tell you the size and what they are this is a straight coupling for putting two pieces of pipe together i'll show you how to do that here real quick and then i'll show you a couple other removal tools so again there's the inside of the fitting this is a coupling and again you're just gonna push push to fit goes in about an inch can't come off see and that is going to be water tight and then you'll just add it right on right like that can't come apart nice and tight so this is a great way to extend a pipe it's a great way if you had a hole that got worn in your pipe and you cut out a little piece and you had some play and you can get the pipes together again it'll work on pex cpvc copper pretty much whatever states on the bag and there are a few different kinds so you have this removal tool right here this one's about 10 bucks i want to say and then you got this one that is you know probably a buck this is a little harder to use but you clip that over the pipe and then you just pull and pull basically that's a little harder to use just like that so basically what this is doing is depressing this right here this get a little closer here for you guys so this is basically depressing that right there that little plastic shroud so they make just about anything they make teas couplings um reducers shut offs they make a really unique fitting here and this is called a slip tee this is for say repairing a pipe so a slip tee works where you put it on one end put it on the other you put it on one end you slip it over it goes past and then you use the release tool to slip it on the other end of the pipe and it comes with instructions how much pipe you should cut out and everything and they work really well for repairs and everything uh very very handy so they make just about any fitting you need to do any plumbing job there is and they'll work with just about anything so again push to connect fittings a couple of different brands out there these happen to be a shark bite they work real well um anybody with basic plumbing knowledge can use them refer to your manufacturer's instructions on the back of the package and you guys will be able to do any plumbing repair in your house with one of these with minimal scale minimal effort and minimal tools and again you can reuse them when you're done everything goes together real quick and when you're done you have watertight connections i mean i can push these fittings together so quick and you know just for fun purposes i'll take a pex cutter here and put a couple more together to show you how fast this really is nothing to it out there guys nothing to it so you can make just about anything very fun for your next plumbing project don't be afraid to go to the store and tackle it yourself and get some push to connect fittings they work real well you have any questions give us a
