How to upload a Garry's Mod addon to the workshop

hello everyone my name is jack and in today's video i'm going to explain to y'all how to upload a garry's mod workshop add-on and the few things firsthand i assume that you already have a file that you want to upload and i'm also assuming that you have gary's mod installed so let's get right into it so first go to your file okay and the easiest and first step that i would do is get a jpeg file of what you want it has to be the same name of whatever file that you're doing it also has to be five by 12 and has to be a jpeg file okay again same name as the file that you're uploading the same name i already just said that it has to be a jpeg and it has to be 5 12 by 5 12. okay boom got that down easy peasy i believe i knew okay next we're going to your file i am right here working on a model but you can be you know this works for any and all so you may have more stuff here you may order blood stuff here whatever it works the same way so right here is a add-on.json file you will not have this but we were going to make it and basically what this is is it is the file that is going to tell steam workshop oh yo you're working on an add-on you're uploading an add-on and what should we do like title and all this other stuff so you're gonna have your title the type that it is i'm working again on the model your tags just use common sense whichever tags you need it is you can have two and you have to have two it has to be two nothing more nothing less easy peasy boom so what you're going to do is save that and again it has to be named add-on.json okay it has to be a dot json file okay next save that boom easy peasy out of the way so your file is good to go next what you're going to do is you're going to go to your garry's mod and whether that be any location just go there i have mine down here i'm going to get it real quick steam steam apps common gary's mod bin next once you're in the bin file what you're going to do is you're going to scroll down and look for gmat what this will do here it is so what this will do this will take your file and it will turn it into a dot gma and gma is the file that gary's mod reads and so if you actually want to go look go to your garry's mod file and go to add-ons and all of them will be in a gma this is what it's for so what you're going to do is come over here grab it hover over gmat boom a little box should appear like this wait for it to finish uh normally this is fairly quick it could be slow for you it's whatever so boom right here mtf delta five models underscore one a gma file so i'm gonna delete that because i do not need that right now so right here here are your two files that you have you have your gma or jpeg so next what you're going to do is you're going to create a dot batch file this is gm published underscore create that is the name that i that i use it is one that is used on the wiki but you can name this literally whatever this has to be a dot patch file and so what you do here is what you're going to do is i use code but you can use sublime notepad i just use visual codecs i think it's better myself so right here what you're going to do is you're going to go back into your bin okay or go back into your bin and look okay you're going to scroll down and you're going to look for gm publish okay what you're going to do right here is you're going to go over here grab the link to it and then of course in the dmg and publish so it should look something similar to this in quotation marks by the way and quotations they're going to do space create add-on uh this dot gma icon and dnp dot save that make sure it is a batch file okay cannot check that enough make sure the files are correct boom you are good to go what that'll create is this again the name does not matter i just prefer that as it is used on the gmod wiki and i prefer to keep everything the same just for your future references so what we do now is you grab this go over here and boom this will pop up okay it's going to be uploading it's going to be uploading make sure steam is on okay if you get a main error make sure siem is on if you continue to get errors you should be able to trace them back into your code just make sure you typed everything out right that's the main issue norm nine times out of ten is that there's a miscap or something or whatever okay normally it's just something very very stupid that everyone does that's what i'm gonna be the first time okay boom right here add-on creation finish your new add-on is currently marked as hidden as pictures that description to then make it public so you just uploaded your first ad so go to over to steam right here go over to steam workshop your files files you've posted then right here this is what it should be this is the one i post before here's the new one okay and so as you can see it is hidden you can do whatever you want boom right here here's your add-on over here at a time description there you just made your very first steam add-on congratulations and i will probably or maybe upload another video of how to update that is a lot easier once you've got the main business down so who knows but congratulations you just made
