How to Update the MPC One Firmware with a USB Flash Drive

today i'm going to show you how to update the mpc one firmware using a usb flash drive and an sd card [Music] hey how's it going everybody welcome to freebeat where i post new music related content series including the mpc one with a ton of new features update version 2.10.0 i got in big trouble last time in my comment section i said 2.1 and a lot of you didn't like that but uh anyway 2.10.0 is massive i'm going to show you guys how to upgrade and uh install the new four new synth plugins jeez four new plugins um into the mpc one using a flash drive and the sd card now you can install this update using a mac or pc um i try to keep things uh computerless here on the channel so uh we'll be doing it with a flash drive today and an sd card so the first thing you're gonna want to do is download the firmware update from akai's website i will link it in the description below there's going to be three three download links there's going to be one for windows pc one for mac and one that says usb you want to download the usb version and then just put it on your flash drive i'm using a super old memorex two gigabyte flash drive here uh just to demonstrate that you can use basically whatever flash drive you want now the sd card is going to be how we're going to install the brand new synth plugins and what you'll want to do here is download the synth plugins from akai's website again i will link that in the description as well and then you're just going to want to extract those files and copy the folder that just says synths into the root directory of your sd card and then it will be ready to go now i believe to use the new synth plugins we have to have the sd card plugged in at all times to the mpc but that's okay because this is my uh just default sd card that i used with the mpc one that i highly recommend that everybody use a default sd card with the mpc one so let's go ahead and get started let's power on the mpc first things first we want to install the firmware update so let's go ahead and plug in our flash drive to the usb port now full disclosure my mpc one is already on the latest firmware update i wanted to figure this out before i showed you guys but the process is still very easy there's just one step that i need to explain so once your mpc is powered on go to empty project now from here we need to get to the preferences menu we can do that by either double pressing the menu button or by holding shift and pressing the menu button from here will be in preferences you'll want to make sure that we are on the info tab right there my info tab is going to look a little different than yours if you are not on the latest firmware yet but regardless your info tab will tell you your current firmware and your serial number you can see that my firmware is 2.10.0 now if you are on an older firmware version it will not say update right here and that's where you need to get to so on an older version all you have to do to make this say update is hold the shift button that's the huge difference between these two firmwares just hold the shift button if you don't see the word update it will turn into the update button you can click it it will automatically find the firmware on the flash drive and then it will prompt you to install it just click yes a couple times and then it will take about 2-3 minutes it'll reboot and you will be ready to go so again if you don't see the word update right here just hold the shift button it will change whatever the button says to update and then you will be good to go now that we've upgraded the firmware we need to install the new synth plugins because as you can see right here just upgrading the firmware is not enough to get the new plugins we still only have the drum synth plug-in and the stock three ones that come like out of the box factory so let's go ahead and insert our sd card with those uh sounds on there and let's go ahead and press the browse button here and let's just go ahead and click places and make sure that our sd card did in fact plug in yep there we go now if i go to synths i believe i can click on hype and see all of these different plugins here yep cool so everything is in there let's go ahead and see if they are visible via the plugin track type yep they are it's that easy that's all you have to do so again copy the synth folder from the downloaded uh synths package that i'm going to link in the description put them onto the root of your sd card put the sd card in as long as you're on the 2.10 firmware or later you will be able to then view them like normal in track selection or track plug-in selection i should say let's go to the hype synth and test it [Music] out yeah seems to be working just fine let's go and program edit here awesome tons of presets yeah look at all this stuff man i'm so excited to have access to the hype uh hype synth like that's so cool let's go to choir heaven choir [Music] yeah beautiful uh i don't really know too much about the hype synth yet so i'm really excited to discover what all this thing can do let's go ahead and check out a few more presets let's go ahead and go out of the choir section how about just a lead hard and let's just try out bright super saw wow i believe we can change our polyphony here let's try mono yeah there we go let's go up an octave [Music] yeah awesome sorry for the fly buzzing around let's uh let's try some more here let's go piano um how about uh we'll go bright stack [Music] so yeah right on super excited to have the hype synth in here ready to go uh let's pick a different uh plug-in now let's go to uh the melotron uh flute let's go floating flute beautiful yeah man this is just really going to blow the lid off this thing anybody who complained that the uh mpc didn't have enough like internal sounds anymore uh yeah i don't think that's a valid argument after this update let's try the odyssey uh synth here let's go ahead and find a good preset let's just get a killer bass let's go tuba awesome and again this is not meant to be a deep dive of these plugins surely not and then let's check out the last one here selena and program edit there we go look at some presets uh let's go classic let's try hero [Music] so [Music] beautiful yeah all right well uh this has certainly uh added to the value of the mpc one as uh basically you know already what was the best dallas music production device for under a thousand dollars i think it is either depending on your point of view uh extended its claim on that title or reclaimed it uh yeah this thing is an absolute monster now and of course we've barely scratched the surface of the update uh there are so many features included in uh firmware 2.10.0 and i can't wait to check them out however tomorrow's video is not going to be on the mpc one i'm going to give you guys a break i know we've done like almost two weeks of content now just on the mpc one so i will be giving it a rest and i think we're
