macOS Mojave 10.14.4 upgrade is out. What it brought to Hackintosh users? To some of them lot of problems and headaches
and broken installations. How to prevent that? Morgonaut will show you exactly what to do
step by step, so stay tuned :) Hi, I’m Teresa from morgonaut.cloud and
I help people with their Apple Macintosh computers and Hackintosh builds. If you are new here, then please click that
subscribe button and hit the bell next to it, so you won’t miss any of my future videos. So, lot of people ended up with broken installations
of their macOS Mojave Hackintosh builds, because they tried to update their system from Mojave
10.14.3 to 10.14.4 and they didn’t follow advices and recommendations :) Rule of thumb
number 1 - wait. Wait for confirmation everything is working,
update went smooth etc. reported by other users on forums. I personaly inform people about each upgrade
of macOS on my Facebook forum - link is in this video description. Rule of thumb number 2 - update your Clover
bootloader and kernel extensions BEFORE macOS upgrade itself. Rule of thumb number 3 - always have proper
backup, in ideal case bootable clone of your whole system boot disk. You can use my video tutorial How to Backup
your Hackintosh for example. So I will show you right now, how to update
the Clover Bootloader on your Hackintosh build and also how to update drivers and kernel
extensions. And later in this video I will also show you,
how to recover you broken installation. There is few ways how to do it, but I will
show you the one most of you will use, the easiest way :)
As you can see in my About This Mac, this build is running macOS Mojave version 10.14.3. So how to correctly prepare you EFI to safe
upgrade? There is again lot of ways how to do it, but
i will show you the easiest and fastest one :) Open Clover Configurator, mount your EFI
and make a backup of your current EFI for example to Desktop. So I’ll create folder called “EFI before
update” and just copy whole EFI folder to it. Now let’s update the Clover bootloader itself. In the left column click on Install/Update
Clover, on the bottom click on Check Now. On top it will show your current booted Clover
version and remote available version. Now on the bottom just click on Update. Clover bootloader installer will automatically
open. Click Continue 3 times and click on Customize. Make sure first two settings are checked and
navigate to UEFI Drivers. Goal is to update only those we have present
in our current EFI configuration and not download any unnecessary ones. So look into your EFI backup and drivers64UEFI
folder, what drivers you are using now. In the installer window click only those you
have present in your current config and uncheck all others. As you can see, now my selection is matching
my current drivers. Now just click on bottom on Install button. OK so Clover bootloader is updated as well
the drivers. You can verify your drivers are updated by
simply comparing them. On the left I have the updated EFI, on ther
right the old one. So look at for example at date of this ApfsDriverLoader. New one if from March 2019, old one from October
2018. This way you can verify all the rest drivers,
but you don’t need to, simply they are updated. Important file is the config.plist itself,
but you don’t need to worry, the config is really yours, it was not replaced by the
updater. But you can check it and if you find it’s
not matching your old one, then just replace it with the one in your EFI backup folder. Now the last step is to update your kernel
extensions. So navigate to your kexts folder. Now as you can see the updated EFI still contains
old kexts versions. As you can see, my kexts versions are the
same on the new EFI as in the old one. So for the last time open your config.plist and in the left column navigate to Kexts Installer. Don’t forget on top to change the destination
folder which for most of you would be the Other folder. Now again look at your current kexts list
and in the Kexts installer check only those, you have present. So for example I have Lilu version 1.3.1 and
the newest version is 1.3.5, so let’s check the box in front of it. Simply this way select to update the rest
of your kexts you have currently in your config. Now just click on the Download button. Now your kernel extensions are updated. If you donwloaded some other addition kexts
from 3rd party sites, then download and update them from their original location. So now just last verification it’s really
updated, for example Lilu is updated from version 1.3.1 to 1.3.5. Great. So that’s all. You successfuly updated your Clover Bootloader,
drivers and kernel extensions. Now I recommend before you start the macOS
upgrade process itself, just reboot your Hackintosh to see, if it’s able to boot with all those
updates in your EFI config. So if your Hackinntosh booted without any
problems, the you can start the macOS upgrade itself. Click on System Preferences, if update is
available, then it will automaticaly show up Now you can without any fear click on Update
Now, Dowload & Restart. Depending on your internet speed it can take
some time to download it. Once the upgrade is downloaded, just click
on top right on Restart. Your Hackintosh will reboot 3 times and whole
upgrade can take about 15 minutes. So as you can see, my system was successfuly
updgraded to macOS Mojave version 10.14.4. without any issues. Your Mac is up to date :) If you want to recover your broken installation due to unsuccessful upgrade, use your USB
installer you used to install macOS Mojave itself and update on it Clover bootloader,
drivers and kexts as seen in this tutorial. Then boot your computer from this USB stick
the first stage and when the Clover boot disk selection appears, then select to boot the
second stage from your Mojave SSD. This way you would be able to get back to
your running system. Once booted just update the EFI on your system
disk the same way. Remove your USB stick, reboot and your macOS
Mojave Hackintosh should be brought back to life :) Most of these .dot upgrades of macOS does not need any update of Clover bootloader,
but this one - to 10.14.4 was big exception. So if you will simply follow my 3 rules of
thumb mentioned in the beginning of this video, then you should not have any issues. So, I hope you’ve found my todays video
