hi I'm Dan Musick in this video we'll show you how to unwind a Wayne Dalton torque master plus torsion spring to do this safely you need a socket wrench a three inch extension and a 5/8 inch deep well socket we don't recommend using open end wrenches or adjustable wrenches because the springs under extreme tension the socket wrench has six sides and the cone has six sides the socket grips all six sides and the full surface area the adjustable wrench or the open end wrench grips only two of the sides and only a fraction of the surface area this can cause the cone to slip and cause injury and it can also rupture the spring for safety unplug the power to the opener close the door completely use a sturdy stepladder and always keep your fingers away from the cable drum before unwinding the spring check to make sure the pole knob is engaged when it's turned up it is engaged in the down position it's disengaged make sure the pole knob is turned up before unwinding the spring this knob must be turned up whether you are on the left side of the door or on the right side of the door to set your ratchet so when you put up here it's going to go to wind in the down direction it clicks on the way up and was going to wind it on the way down now we're not going to be winding it we're going to be unwinding it but we need to pull down on it in order to loosen the paul second we pull down on it we pull down on it notice that this comes loose up here the put your finger here and press on it but it won't won't release so when we pull down it releases and then we go up like that until it grabs if you go too far you can't you can't release the wrench so you back up a little bit and it clicks first we adjust the wrench so it tightens when pulling down next we're going to install the socket on the winding shaft with the bottom of the ratchet down third we press the ratchet pole with the right index finger next pull down on the socket as we pull down this comes up press on the ratchet Pole pull down on the end of the shaft this comes up then we go around this catches and then we can remove this go back and show the process push down here push there that comes up go around go down push on here push here this goes up to go too far so you simply come back a little bit remove your socket I'm Dan Musick I hope you found this video helpful thank you for watching
