hello there and welcome to shop fix a community joined together for the love of woodworking my name is William Andrey and today I have a couple things that needed transfer an image on - first are these blanking wooden clocks and also these simple wooden pine pieces that I made just for images now together I have quite a few pieces that I need to transfer images onto and the simplest way that I found to do that is by using an inkjet printer and address label backing paper so stick around if you want to watch how to transfer an image to wood welcome in to shop fix I'm glad to have you here I hope you find great value in this video so please enjoy and don't forget to check out my channel page for more for this ink transfer method we simply need a regular inkjet printer and then principle address labels and it's best to get the address labels there are only two per sheet because we're gonna have to remove the labels because all we're gonna be using is the backing paper underneath so let's begin by removing the labels well now that we have the labels removed we have our surface that we're gonna print the image onto so we can transfer it onto the wood let's go on to the next step once you have your image that you want to transfer the wood you can drag and drop it in your word processing program to get it formatted for printing you could see me here resizing the image instead of this appropriate size for the clock after resizing the image to the appropriate size you can start adjusting your image as far as brightness highlights definition sharpness and saturation to get the perfect color and definition that you want another very important step is to make sure that whatever image that you're printing that you flip it horizontally otherwise when you transfer the image it will be backwards now we're gonna want to print this image on the shiny side of the addressable backing paper which is the side that the address labels were stuck to not the back which is the matte side you can see me here double-checking that I'm printing on the shiny side I'd also like to note here that it's important to use address level backing paper that isn't perforated the perforations and the address level backing paper will mess up the image that you're printing before I ultimately print the picture I want to make sure that the clockface is free from all sawdust so I use this tack cloth [Music] once you have your address label backing paper ready to print on the shiny side and whatever you're transferring that image onto sawdust free and clean you're ready to print [Music] [Music] very carefully remove your image from the printer and let's begin this transfer for this particular image transfer I thought it would be advisable to cut off some of the excess address little backing paper so that would be easier to align on the clock face but this is totally not necessary it just made it easier for me to align to successfully transfer the ink onto the wood you will want to firmly set the image down onto the surface without shifting the image or smearing the ink to make this work you will want to start at one edge of the piece and work your way to the other edge while holding the paper firmly in place now that you have the image resting on the surface you can work the ink into the wood flat wooden blocks work great I have also found that gently rubbing your finger over the image results in some of the best ink transfers be mindful of the movement of your hands because the last thing you want is that paper to shift and that ink to smear if you have any left resting on the address liberal backing paper once you've thoroughly worked in all of the ink you can remove the paper and reveal your image [Music]
