How to tie the Palomar Knot (and when NOT to use it!)

today let's learn the polymer knot this knot is incredibly strong and super fast I'll show you how to tie it and then go over a situation where the knot can't be used so make sure you watch the whole video all the way to the end so you don't make that mistake the first step of this knot is to give yourself a decent amount of line and then double it over depending on the size of the tackle you're going to tie this knot to you might need up to five or six inches of doubled over line go to the end of your line and make sure to pinch it tightly especially if you're using fluoro or mono or if the eye of your tackle is very small that's going to be an important step next run the double line through the eye of your tackle and then move your tackle about halfway down the section of line that's doubled over this doesn't have to be exact but somewhere with enough room to tie the first part of your knot so at this point what you're going to want to do is tie a loose overhand knot so you can tie this overhand knot whichever way you'd like I am just going to take the doubled over section like so and run it over and through and then you're going to Loosely cinch that down leaving a decent amount of slack here then you can pinch that and what you're going to want to do is take the large loop you've created and run it through and around your tackle so in this case I'm going to run it around my hook like so the next step is to take the loop bring it back up to the main line and the double line here [Music] and at this point you can begin to pull some of the slack out of the line now you're going to want to wet your line at this point while that's happening if this video has been at all helpful to you hitting that subscribe button really helps the channel and I appreciate it after you've wet your line it should be easier to go ahead and start to cinch the knot down just by pulling everything tight [Music] like so and then what you're going to want to do because you're going to have a decent amount of tag end here take your favorite pair Clippers trim the tag end now here's the situation when this knot doesn't work if you have a large piece of tackle like this lure it really won't work well that's because the amount of line you would need to double over to get all the way over the tackle would leave you with a huge tag end that would end up getting wasted there is a knot which is even stronger than the polymer knot and might be even more versatile so watch this video here if you want to learn how to tie a knot on tackle like this
