so you're like the most of us you've got a bunch of loose pokemon cards maybe they're old collect phone when you're younger or maybe they're new haven't just gone to hobby recently but whatever the case all you want to know is if any of these cards are worth any money [Music] what's up guys vidcom here and if like so many people that's your question well then you come to the right place welcome back to the next episode where i'll be showing you guys how to find out if your pokemon cards are rare or expensive now i'm going to be dividing this video into two parts both of which are gonna be linked in the description below if you'd like to skip to a specific part now part one is going to be about how to find out if your pokemon cards are rare and part two will be how to find out if your pokemon cards are expensive again if you only come for one of these then head over to the description and if not then enjoy the video all right so first of all i think most of us want to be able to tell the rarity of our pokemon cards doing this is actually a lot simpler than you might think as you can see here i've got a bunch of different pokemon cards all of them looking slightly different in appearance now in order to determine its rarity you must simply look at the bottom of the card and you will see one of three symbols a circle which means that it is common [Music] a diamond which means that it is uncommon or a star which means that it is rare there's also one more symbol you might see but we'll get into that a little bit later in the video now as you can see it's important to note that depending on the generation of your card this information may be in a different place this is as throughout the years the designs of the cards have changed however regardless of age it will always be at the bottom either on the left or on the right but no matter where the symbol is the symbol itself will never change a circle always beating common so as you can see here i've got the same couple pokemon cards as before this first one is a reprint of the base set from x white evolutions this next one is a sun and moon pokemon card and the one after that is from x and y all these cards look a little bit different but if we look at the bottom again might be a different place but all of them have circles this means that they're all common any card with a circle regardless of how it looks is a common so next we've got a couple cards here and if we look at the bottom of these cards they all have diamonds this means that all of these cards are uncommon and finally if we look at the bottom of all these cards they'll have stars meaning that they are all rare and next there is one more symbol that you guys might see and is this one right here this is a black star with the words promo written across it simply meaning that this was a promotional card it was obtained from the front of a box like this one or it was even received in an event basically any card with the words promo on it was not pulled from a booster pack as you can see here both this decidueye and the scar chomp have black stars with promo written across it even though it may be in different spots and even though all these cards look very very different alright so now we know the most simple ways to determine a card's rarity however there are also a couple other variables that contribute to its overall rarity first of all pokemon cards come in three different variations normal print which looks like this one right here it is a standard pokemon card nothing too special about it at all next we have a reverse holo with the entire card being made of some kind of most usually shiny foil all aside from the picture since every pack is guaranteed at least one reverse foil they aren't worth too much however they're definitely more visually appealing and next there's our hollow cards unlike reverse holo cards which can come in any rarity most all hollow cards are rare with only a few exceptions as you can see rather than the whole card being shiny only the picture is now the ratio of pulling a hollow card is typically one for every three booster packs making them far more desirable than their regular normal print counterparts i think a rare card is cool especially now that you're able to identify them in their three different variations but the part i'm sure most of you are waiting for is how to find out if your pokemon cards are ultra rare or even secret rare now ultra rare cards are full foil and it's usually pretty obvious if you've got an ultra rare card based on its dramatically different appearance as you can see here with this primal groudon most ultra rare cards have something written next to pokemon's name such as level x ex or gx in addition if you're more comfortable looking at the symbol on the bottom they will most often have a shiny gold or silver star [Music] and finally the last possible rarity of a pokemon card is secret rare the most rare variation of a pokemon card possible ultra cards have a pull rate of around one for every six or seven booster packs while secret rares are pulled in one for every two to three booster boxes now to put that into perspective a booster box has 36 boosters so at best that's one secret rare for every 72 booster packs that's a lot of booster packs now in order to identify secret rare you must look at the bottom of the card next to this rarity symbol and you'll see two sets of numbers the first is the card's number in the set and the next is the number of cards in the set seeker rares will have a set number that is higher than the number of cards advertised in the set so they essentially don't exist in the set but you've managed to pull it they can look like anything but like ultra rares they usually have a unique foil-like appearance the color gold seems to be relatively common in secret rares though not always and again they could look awesome like this or they can just look like a regular pokemon card so it's always kind of useful to check so again in case that was confusing for any of you basically if the first number is higher than the second number it's a secret all right so that is all we've gone over every single radio pokemon card and hopefully now you were able to identify a couple rare cards in your collection and now that you've done this i'm sure you're wondering if any of these cards are worth money well like most collectors items pokemon cards are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them your cards may go up in value at one point or they may go down a general rule of thumb is that rare cards are typically worth more although this is not always the case not all rare cards are going to be worth a lot and not all common cards are going to be cheap however this is usually a strong indicator as to card's value now there are multiple resources online for a tournament card's value and i'll have a couple link below a couple of my favorites but my personal favorite is ebay so as you can see here i've got this florigas card and if we go on ebay and we look up the name of the card so in this case floorgiz and we look up the set number so it's the same number in the bottom usually right hand of the card or left next to the rarity symbol that also tells us to record a secretary you stayed for part one if you look up name of your card and that number you'll get a bunch of listings for that card now it is important to remember that anyone can list their regular comm peek to for a hundred thousand dollars but it's not always worth that so it's important to scroll down and hit sold listings under sold listings you're able to see what people are actually paying for the card at the moment then you can take the average price and safely estimate what your card is worth another good website i like to use is called tcgplayer.com and very similar to ebay just look up the name of your card so again floorga's ex and usually the set number or click something like that and you'll be able to see what your card is worth so if you go over here you can see in the top right and also make sure to hit view more so you can see what other stores are selling the card for usually i like to use this website to double check and it usually matches up so as you can see here we've got this very expensive charizard or card that i'm actually trying to get and it's important to note that you may notice cards like these cards that aren't graded and these are selling for significantly more than their ungraded counterparts and though explaining this would require its own video grading a card is essentially sending it into a company where you will get it graded based on its condition on a scale of one to ten ten being absolutely flawless and one being probably partially burned in a fire and then extinguished with coffee if you have an expensive card in great condition it may be worth sending your card into a company like psa or vgs to be graded as a good grading can significantly raise the value of your card as you can see with this charizard it's worth way more graded than ungraded not that it was specifically cheap before and again if we want to see the value of this card we can just take the average and see that it's worth a cool 700 plus nothing too crazy at all of course and going back to tcgplayer we can double check look up the name of the card and see that it checks out so definitely an expensive card alright so thank you guys so much for watching this video where i showed you how to determine if your pokemon cards are rare or expensive now some of you og fans may have actually picked up on the fact that i already made a video pretty similar this one on my channel and it's actually my very first video so i figured i'd refresh it make it better and include some extra information anyways thank you guys so much for watching this video and as always stay tuned for the next episode [Applause] [Music] you
