how to style linen trousers a summer lookbook [Music] if you're spending time building your summer wardrobe you've probably realized that linen is the perfect summer fabric from the runway to the high street linen clothes are everywhere as soon as the sun comes out whether you opt for a linen dress or a chic tailored jacket this fabric is on trend and in my humble opinion should be embraced with open arms but one linen garment that's currently getting worn on repeat would be simple linen trousers so today i'm focusing on two different pairs that i have in my wardrobe and how to style them for summer 2022 so like i mentioned i've decided to use these two favorite pairs for my styling today both a light and a dark version so whichever type you have in your own wardrobe you should be able to glean lots of different outfit ideas from today's video for reference i have nearly five foot eight usually wear a uk size 10 and i shall link all the outfit ideas i feature in the description box below so let's get started outfit what linen trousers can work for day events to hot summer nights and as this video will hopefully show they can be styled for so many more occasions too the fabric lasts for years and the style is always applicable ideal for anyone like me looking for a more sustainable summer option i'm actually doing a bit of a double linen look here but having added my vest top underneath it's enabled me to utilize the shirt as more of a lightweight jacket i really love the relaxed look it creates and it gives me more options if the weather decides to change its mind which it often does in this country if you're a fan of the current trend of crop tops these work particularly well with this look but personally i prefer a more subtle approach with a tank dressing for summer is all about comfort and i believe you can absolutely do that without compromising on style style tip going tonal like this gives you the option to make a specific accessory really stand out a pop of color with a handbag a statement pair of sunglasses or maybe a great pair of heels make the outfit as simple and cohesive as possible for the best results outfit two one of my favorite style tips is to go simple and embrace a plain white tee white t-shirts match virtually everything and they add an air of minimalism to your overall look when it comes to city days you want to feel cool in the city heat and not hot and sticky on the tube i pretty much always opt for comfort when i've got a busy day in town and if needs be i'll have a pair of heels to change into in my handbag i rarely leave my t-shirts loose and prefer to either completely tuck them in or at least do a bit of a half tuck it highlights and emphasizes your waistline and it breaks up the look quite nicely i've added a belt to draw the eye to this area too consider statement earrings or an interesting bag if you want to add some extra drama to this simple outfit but personally i really love the simplicity of going just the way i am with a more neutral palette of clothes like i have you can add pops of color in small details accessorize with a bright bag or add a splash of red lipstick even finish this casual city style off with converse or similar canvas shoes these are super comfortable yet they allow your feet to breathe in the heat which is never a bad idea comfortable sandals are also a great option too but make sure you've broken them in before you walk around town in them for hours on end been there done that and don't want to get the t-shirt style tip it's not impossible but it is definitely harder to create a minimal elegant look with vibrant prints instead i prefer to opt for plain items of clothing and dress the items up a bit with accessories for more depth outfit three another lovely fabric combination i like with linen would be silk i really like the contrast of textures and especially in a shade like this deep camel it accentuates their differences even more again thinking of balancing out my shape i've opted to tie that silk shirt and not at my waistband or you could simply tuck it in if you prefer the tambow which was a bit of a bargain i got from h m really helps cinch in my waist for even more definition and the block heels give it a bit of subtle glam this outfit looks a little bit french to me actually i'm not really sure why but it's definitely got a vibe of that there's just something fairly relaxed and quite nonchalant about this look which i really like stylishly undone i think my favorite kind of look style tip when you are investing in items like 100 silk you want to make sure that you spend your pennies wisely and opt for a shade that you know you'll wear a lot i rarely wear bright colors so it will be silly of me to spend a larger portion of my budget on something like that when splurging i tend to play it safe with my usual color palette to really maximize those pieces in my capsule wardrobe don't forget to let me know your in one go now depending on your workplace's dress code linen trousers match really well with blouses and oversized blazers for a super relaxed yet formal finish now as you can probably see in this footage mine aren't a perfect match either they were bought from different stores but actually i quite like the contrast i think it works two great workwear combinations are high-waisted linen trousers a fitted vest and a blazer or pair with a half tucked in oversized shirt now the second might be a little bit too laid back for some or some bosses but it's a very comfy combination and in line with this year's minimalist trend this giselle bundchen look is an excellent example of a chic linen workwear style soft tailored linen trousers and a plain shirt mix really well for a professional yet style conscious ensemble if you're fond of color you're in luck because the high street is currently full to the brim of bold and beautiful linens now the majority of these looks i'm showing today would work well in bright shades too and i especially love bright colors when they're worn head to toe just remember while black does look chic all black outfits will attract the sun in the heat even if they're linen based [Music] shirt styling if you are styling linen trousers you need to try this classic combination pair your linen trousers with a shirt and simply tie the shirt so it sits at your waistband this particular chair is pretty oversized so it felt right to tie it in a knot at the front but i also love the slightly preppy look that that creates now i wanted to add a little more depth to the look so i opted for my old faithful black loafers and a matching handbag and i think those elements really pull it all together nicely now this is a timeless look that adds some laid-back chic to any outfit plus the style adds emphasis to your waist creating a balanced silhouette the great thing about this look is that you can use all kinds of shirts from long sleeve to short puffed or balloon all of which i think would work really well style tip using an oversized shirt as a cover-up is also a handy tip if you're poolside a great way to save money and avoid buying a specific pool cover-up and actually i think it looks really stylish too to the beach if you're by the beach this summer don't forget to pack your linen trousers again these trousers are super versatile for quite literally any different occasion a great styling hack for poolside days is to layer your linen trousers over your swimsuit if you're heading to the beach bar or maybe grabbing some lunch this mimics a bodysuit or a sleek cammy without you needing to pack extra clothes in your bag ideal for any minimal travelers out there not me sadly i take way too much stuff now this works best if your swimsuit is also neutral but don't worry if it's not if you're pairing a bold swimsuit with linen trousers either keep the rest of your accessories really minimal or make a feature out of the tones as i have here and add a belt or a bag to tie in the tone nicely style tip i tried this recently with my gorgeous new emerald one piece and i loved the look so whatever swimsuit you do have i would highly advise at the very least you have a go with this outfit idea what's the worst that can happen it doesn't look right and you don't like it but you might just find yourself a new favorite outfit idea in the process complete linen look if you're looking for an effortless and light summer outfit try doubling up on your linen the fabric oozes summer vibes and is perfect for those days when the heat is more intense linen tops come in all shapes and sizes but two winners for me are shirts and spaghetti strapped linen tops that was a tongue twister here i've styled my beige linen cami with the trousers i've added my taupe braided belt for a little bit of definition and a sprinkle of gold with my sandals and my earrings the straw bag ties in nicely with a collection of beiges and the overall effect is really effortlessly chic for casual days in the sunshine linen is a unique fabric that looks at home whenever the sun shines so if you want to take a double linen look to the next level go for similar hues for a monochrome style linen like a fine wine generally ages really well if you care for your linen trowels as well they should last for decades and while i love fresh cottons particularly in summer the fibres do tend to become weaker with every single wash linen however is the opposite and actually becomes even stronger with wear so a similar look to one i showed earlier but this time sharing how it would work equally well with the darker shade of linen now i've left the trousers without a belt this time so they sit a little bit lower on my hips and i've added flat camel sandals in keeping with that relaxed vibe the vest top shows my shape while the addition of the linen shirt adds another texture into the mix i really love camel khaki and white together it feels incredibly summery and they're such gentle really elegant tones it's one of my favorite looks this is the sort of smart but casual everyday look that i tend to reach for it's easy to put together and even if your own trousers are a different shade of khaki or maybe another color altogether the look would work equally well style tip sadly i don't have the longest legs in the world i wish i did so i'll often add a turn up to my trousers showing that little bit of skin around your ankle can really help elongate your shape overall evening though we've focused on a range of casual linen outfits they're absolutely suited to evening wear too especially if your linen trousers feature soft tailoring or highway structure as this elevates them above more casual options i like to pair my linen with silk or satin fabrics when dressing for the evening not only do these feel more locks but they offer a slight sheen which is perfect if you're off to dinner or going for drinks whether you opt for a cami or a top with a slight sheen to it make sure you avoid adding casual trainers with these looks though these are excellent daytime options sandals even flat ones or mid heels are better for evening occasions however if you know you're going to be walking a lot i would probably opt for the flat options instead i would rather dance the night away feeling really comfy than getting sore and blistered feet adding a belt to a look like this not only means that i can wear these trousers a little bit higher waisted but it adds a more striking waistband too your eye then naturally gravitates to that area so it can help to create a more hourglass shape linen tips finally though linen isn't too challenging to take care of here are some tips to ensure you can enjoy your linen trousers year after year always follow wash care labels some linen trousers will be 100 linen and others are linen blends each is great but there might be slight differences due to the fabric composition and any dyes that they've used so check the labels carefully don't worry about the creases a bonus of embracing linen is that it doesn't need to be ironed frequently part of linen's rustic charm is the fabric's naturally relaxed and draped look creases in linen add to the material's texture which is perfect for that laid back summer aesthetic however if your linen has been crushed or becomes really really creased you might want to give it a quick once-over with the iron while the fabric is still slightly damp if your linen is in a dark color press on the inside of the fabric so you don't make any marks if like me you are trying to build a conscious wardrobe filled with high quality fabrics and pieces that will last a lifetime then linen trousers could become your new best
