How To Stop Puppy Biting Easily

this is exactly how you can stop your puppy from biting in as quick as just one day now as a k&i behaviorist I have worked with thousands of people helping them have the dream K Andi companion that they've always wanted ranging from people with older dogs with incredibly difficult behaviors all the way through to helping people get it right first time round with their puppies so I've got a lot of experience in helping people with this exact issue and for me there are a couple of key points that you need to focus on to make sure that you can achieve the success as well at home the first thing is that we have to make sure that we don't fall victim to our dogs thinking that nipping and biting gets them what they want take a little bit of a step back and put yourself in your dog shoes if they want a toy if they want your attention if they want anything and they come over to you they start playing with your clothes they start nipping at your hands and then you start giving them attention you start playing with them you give them a toy what you're doing is reinforcing that behavior I want X if I do y in terms of puppy biting I then get X so I'll do that more and more and more in the future and it can become a learn Behavior we have to break that cycle and make sure that our dogs only ever get the things that they want when they're doing the things we want them to do for example if you want to give your dog some praise and some fuss always make sure that they're sitting calmly with good manners before doing so if you want to give your dog a toy always make sure they're sitting calmly with good manners before doing so and you'll be shocked at just how quickly that alone will start to build up that habit in your dog of when I want something I sit and wait with good maners and able to get it it's a longer term strategy and it's something that everyone in your house has to be consistent with but if you and they do you will have a dog that is displaying good manners naturally however if you're already struggling with a dog that is developing the habit of puppy biting and that habit is becoming deeply ingrained don't worry there's also very easy ways to be able to to fix it how I do that is following a simple three-step process of being able to interrupt the puppy when it is biting so we need an ability just to say hey buddy that's not acceptable for me I have an active interruption or a passive Interruption to be able to do this an active Interruption could be verbally with a nice firm no or an AA or A little just tap on the side or a little tap on their lead just to interrupt that behavior so that we can then move on to step two however if you would like to do something more like a passive interruption the way that I do this is that you hold your dog by the collar and you go stiff robotic remove all attention remove all fun and you just wait for the dog to calm down once the dog is calmed down you've interrupted that behavior and whether you've interrupted it passively or actively we can move on to step two step two is then redirecting all of that energy that they have which does need to come out often in their mouths the dogs explore the world with their mouths they're teing they need to chew on things so we need to provide that for them but we need them to know hey buddy not on my hands not on my clothes not on my shoes however this thing this is what you should be chewing on so we interrupt them when they're chewing on the wrong things we then provide them the things that we do want them to chew and then when they're chewing that thing then our attention and our praise and our energy can come back if they make a mistake and go back to chewing on us we go back to step one we interrupt that behavior redirect them onto the thing that we do want to chew then we reward and reinforce that behavior pair that with what we talked about at the start of the video of making sure that our dog is always learning to get what they want they have to be calm sit quietly with good manners you will have a perfect K Andi companion and that is exactly how I've helped literally thousands of people be able to achieve exactly
