How To Start A Subscription Box Business with Shopify

hey guys it's Eliot here from venture sensei comm and today in this tutorial I'm gonna be going through how to set up your very own subscription box service using Shopify don't worry if you've never set up a website before or created your own business you won't need any technical knowledge for this tutorial and I'll be going through everything step by step so you'll be able to look over my button so let me give you guys a quick preview of everything we're going to be going through in this tutorial so we're going to start off by selecting a niche for our subscription box service and where we can find products for that niche then we'll move on to purchasing a domain name for our subscription box store signing up for Shopify and how to connect the domain name to Shopify will then create a free professional email for our subscription box service and create a beautiful logo just like this one which would also be absolutely free I'll then show you guys how to set up your subscription box store so I'll be covering things such as how to create menus for your store and how to create different pages such as the refunds policy Terms of Service and contact us page I'll then show you guys how to fully customize your store so change things such as the fonts and images on your website and I also show you how to set up different subscription box tiers for your subscription box will then set up the recharge app which allows you to charge your customers every single month automatically for your subscription box and then I'll show you guys how to add individual products to your subscription box store well finalize our store by showing you how to set up discount codes for your subscription box and then I'll move on to show you guys how to create beautiful packaging for your subscription boxes which isn't going to eat a massive chunk out of your budget so I hope I've covered everything in as much detail as I can in this tutorial and I've made it as interesting as possible to keep your guys attention without keeping you waiting any longer let's jump straight into the tutorial [Applause] the first thing we're going to do is look at how to pick a niche for a subscription box service so obviously you're going to want to pick products that people are going to want to pay for every single month the best-selling products I've noticed that at the moment in the subscription box industry are arts crafts and hobbies anything this sort of DIY and creative there isn't a you know a particular market that's overly saturated in the subscription book industry except for maybe tea and coffee men's grooming products and maybe makeup things like that beard oil face cream and stuff like that you generally want to pick products that aren't going to cost you more than ten dollars or ten pounds I think it's best to pick smaller products that cost you two dollars each or one dollar each and then you can put them together and have a nice combination of items within your subscription box so this could be things such as stickers stamps iron-on patches cushion covers and stuff like that so if we head over to Aliexpress we can look at some of these products that can be picked for your subscription box when deciding on a product for your subscription box you want to pick something that's going to cause you the least hassle the least amount of customer complaints the least amount of refunds so it strongly suggests to include any type of clothing especially from Aliexpress the clothing can come up quiet sometimes you know it's funny sizes different sizes and if it doesn't fit people they're going to want to send it back they're gonna want to refund and eventually they're going to cancel their subscription to your subscription box service another thing I would strongly suggest avoiding is electronics because if they don't work or if they break people of course they're gonna want to send them back they're gonna want to refund again and once again they'll end up canceling their subscription to your subscription box so let's go through some of the examples I gave earlier so one of them was iron-on patches so let's say we wanted to start an iron-on patch subscription box service we go into Aliexpress and we go and look at some iron-on patches the best thing to do is the products by orders so that way we can see what are the most popular products so these are the products that being ordered the most from Aliexpress as you can see loads of different packs of iron-on patches come up there they're really cheap and you know with the subscription box you don't rip people off you want to give them quality something that they're gonna want to pay for every month so I would say for an iron-on patch subscription box you probably charge something like $10 a month so if we go down these products we can actually filter them out and find more and find more quality products that can be included in a subscription box every month so if I just pick one of these products let's say these for example they look pretty cool you can see this is $2 for a whole pack so this is something that could be included in a subscription box if we scroll down on the left here you can visit the store for this particular product we click on products for this particular store we'll filter by orders once again and as you can see loads of different packs of iron-on patches come up so if we take each of these packs we could put one of these in a subscription box every month and somebody that's enthusiastic about customizing clothes or you know making their own clothes with iron-on patches I'm sure that they'd find this pre a pretty cool subscription box every month to receive a different pack another thing that you could do is like I said earlier buy smaller cheaper items put them together to make up your subscription box so you could buy you know three of these iron-on patches and that could be your whole subscription box for the month some of the other ideas I gave for cushion covers so once again these are relatively cheap if I go to orders to see the most popular you can see here they're around $4 $5 and you could charge something like $15 a month for you know a new cushion cover every month there's a lot of people are there that are you know they love cushions another way to find a niche for your subscription box is to simply just go through the Aliexpress categories and like I said find products that aren't going to cost you more ten dollars something like that or a bunch of products two dollars each that you can put together to create a combination so if we just go to all of the categories on the Aliexpress homepage I can go to more categories home and garden so I'm gonna go for arts and crafts but there's so many categories on here let's just pick arts and crafts as an example if we go to orders again we can pick something from here so maybe I don't know this diamond painting cross stitch mosaic somebody that likes creating mosaics it's four dollars there it could be in a special niche mosaic subscription box every month we click on this again we can visit the store check the store's products see the most popular orders so you can see here if they're getting over 4,000 orders so somebody wants them they're in demand and this is something you could put in a box every single month and send out as a subscription so a new mosaic every month so this is the best way I find to actually pick you know a niche for your subscription box so let's say you've gone through Aliexpress you've looked through all the categories you think you think that you've found the perfect niche so we'll take the iron on patches idea again as an example I'm just using it because it's easy to relate to so you think you've found the perfect niche now what you need to do you have to do this you know quiet in good detail you have to look at your competitors so like I said there's not in a subscription box service industry there's not there's no particular market that's very very saturated so we all I do is I go to Google when I say iron-on patch subscription box now all I have to do is try and find my main competitors so here's one I would say brat box monthly enamel pins and patches so all I'm going to do is I'm going to look at all of my competitors I'm gonna write down how many they are if they're in the same country as me which I'm based in the UK but let's say if this box was based in the UK they'd be my main competitor if they're in the US then it doesn't really affect me so much so all you need to do is you've looked for a niche on Aliexpress and now you need to just find your competitors if there's too many you need to pick another niche so I would say here this this subscription box brat box for ion patches it looks pretty good it looks like if I wanted to start a new one it might be quite difficult to actually break their market because there's not a massive demand for iron on patches and anyone that is gonna buy an iron on patch subscription box will probably come to Brett box of course I could try and you know go against them if they don't have any competitors so let's say that splat box are the sole iron on patch subscription box then I could think about starting one doing something cheaper or maybe offering more patches in my box to try and outdo them something that will go above their subscription box so let's have a look maybe punky pins I don't think this is a subscription box service I think this is just a one-off this is just a one-off so they just sell iron-on patches on their own but some people don't want to get new ones every month so if I keep looking down on Google have a look at this this is a single item I can actually see that there's only really one subscription box coming up on the first page of Google which is you know mainly what anybody looks at really that's selling iron-on patches every month as a subscription so I would say that an iron on patches subscription box is actually a good idea because there's only one there's only one subscription box selling this so if you start a new one you market it differently so you know a better pricing plan or maybe more in the box you might be out Ashley's still some of their customers or people who haven't signed up for their box yet you can still try and gain those customers on board for your box for the purpose of this tutorial I have gone with the men's suit accessories injuries industry so things such as ties pocket squares tie clips socks things like that so a subscription box service that has different accessories in it every month so if I just go for knitted ties you can see here you can get a knitted tie for around $3 if I had a pocket square and a tire clip to that it's going to cost me around $10 and I can sell it for around 20 to 25 dollars so I already know that there are some subscription box services in this industry but for the purposes that all I'm gonna go with this just to show you how to create sub scription box from start to finish so for example if I were to do some market research I already know there's spreader box which is probably the biggest one they're charging $28 a month for probably around four to five items I would say and there's also I think one called gents box gentleman's box you can see here doesn't say how much they're charging but I'm sure if I look look on here $25 a month so I could start one to compete with gentleman's box and espresso box they're charging $25 a month in $28 a month I could start one where I'm charging you know $18 a month or $20 a month and make maybe make it a bit more specific so mine's strictly for knitted ties and pocket squares or something like that something that competes with their customers I could try and steal their customers and get new customers on board this is the best way to find a niche you look on Aliexpress I'm just going to reiterate again you drill down you find a niche and once you've found your niche you need to do as much research as you can obviously I'm not going to go through all of it in this tutorial but you need to go and try and find the competitors you know if there's four or five different subscription boxes for the niche you're in I would suggest you know there's no point of starting it because it's gonna be too hard to break into it something like the mosaic subscription box I can guarantee you that there's there's probably nothing like this out there but if it's getting 4,000 orders on Aliexpress somebody wants it somewhere so you know there's always a demand for everything out there you just have to pick a niche and think you know create something that you can walk if you really are struggling to find a niche for your subscription box there's a really good article on crate joy so these are a subscription box sellers 50 ideas for a subscription box service you could start today I'll leave a link in the video description so you can have a read through this as well if you just go down here you can read all of these different ideas and go back to Elias Aliexpress and try and find some products that match with those ideas so have a look on here is you're really struggling and you can't find one and I'm sure something will come up in you be out to find a niche so now that I've found my niche from my product which is the men's men's suit accessory industry I've gone with the name detail hub as in it's all in the detail so now I'm going to head over to GoDaddy and purchase a domain so we're now going to purchase a domain for our subscription box service so if we go over to could go daddy.com there's a link at the description for GoDaddy so we're going to feel it linked so if you do use it much appreciate it once again and this is where we can purchase our domain for our subscription box I really like GoDaddy it's my favorite website for purchasing domains really easy to navigate really user friendly and when you do actually purchase domain it's really easy to manage them especially if your purchase more than one domain if you want to start multiple websites or multiple businesses if you are struggling to find a domain name or a name for your subscription box you can go to the Shopify name generator and all you simply need to do is type in the keywords of your subscription box so let's say you pick the patches idea again we can type patches in here click generate names and all of these names here so all of these domains they're free so they're not currently being used so they're available for purchase as you can see it's come up with four and a half thousand names so you can keep looking through until you find a name that's that's catchy or has a ring to it or something that you like for your subscription box and once you've done that you can go back to GoDaddy so let's say I pick patches club I think that sounds pretty cool I can head back over to GoDaddy type in patches club big search domains and you can see here yes your domain is available so all you have to do is add to cart and simply checkout like you would on any other website that you've purchased something before so you just assign up and check-out I've already purchased a domain for detail hub so I'm not going to carry on with this part of the tutorial so now I'm going to go and sign up for Shopify so all you need to do is carry on finishing purchasing your domain and I'll see you on the other side we will sign up for Shopify okay so we're now going to sign up for Shopify so for those of you that don't know what Shopify is it's basically a managed ecommerce platform so it's a drag-and-drop builder to create ecommerce websites including obviously subscription books websites so Shopify is usually $29 a month but if you head over to venture since they're calm and just click on go to the tutorial so the tutorial for how to start a subscription box service with Shopify click on go to the tutorial you actually be able to receive a 14-day free trial of proper fire by clicking on this button here I also leave a link in a description for your 14-day free trial to Shopify if you do use the link it's an affiliate link so I actually receive a small commission for you guys using my link so that'd be very much appreciated and so if you just click on this all you need to do now is click on get started entering an email address so if we go for entering a password and entering a store name so I've already used detail hub as the store name before so I'm just gonna go from detail hub tutorial but generally your store name should match your your domain name if it's available which it usually should be if the domain name hasn't been taken so once you've done that all you need to do is click create your store and then it takes a couple of seconds just to actually load everything up and once you've done that you just need to answer some of these questions they're pretty straightforward so are you selling already if you're not then just say no which I'm guessing you know most of you won't be if you're watching this tutorial do you have something to sell you know if you're just playing around just put yes if you're still brainstorming put the middle one if you have a product then it doesn't really matter to be honest so we'll just put know just playing around what is your current revenue 0 are you saying it for a client no so just click Next then entering your personal details and if you have a business or personal website if you don't have one don't worry you don't need to put it in it really doesn't matter all they need to do is click into my store and it should just be sitting on your store so give it a few moments and here we go so now you are on the Shopify admin dashboard so this is basically where we are going to actually do you know the bulk of the work for the rest of this tutorial so this is we're going to be setting up your whole store you know what it looks like the products the theme and everything like that so the first thing we're going to do now we're on your Shopify admin dashboard and we've signed up for Shopify is actually connect your GoDaddy domain to your Shopify store so in order to connect your domain to your Shopify store you simply need to click on online store domains connect an existing domain because we've already purchased it through GoDaddy type in the domain you want to use click Next and then click connect automatically so Shopify and GoDaddy have a sort of partnership where you can click connect automatically and it does everything for you behind the scenes so if you click on this it'll bring you to GoDaddy you have to put your GoDaddy login details in which you can see mine are already pre-populated click sign-in and then simply click connect and that's it it's as simple as that it's so easy you can see now success data hub Dakota UK is now your Shopify website domain we close the window it's just refreshing this and our domain is connected so now if we go on to a new URL we type in detail hub code at UK or if you type in your domains name it should come up so if I try that now you'll see here is fully connected obviously we haven't set up the story yet so it would just say you Shopify populates it with a coming soon page but that's it it's as simple as that few clicks and your domain itself so now what we're gonna do is we're gonna set up a email address for your Shopify store for free so usually you might have to pay for this on GoDaddy but I'm actually gonna show you how to do it completely for free so you can have a professional email for answering customer queries and things like that so now we're going to create a free professional email for your subscription box service it's really important to have a professional email as a company because if customers want to send you emails about asking questions or they want to contact you about something maybe a complaint or refund or if you want to promote products to them it's good to have it as a professional email address you don't want something at gmail.com or outlook com it just looks dodgy and unprofessional so if we go over to google and type in zero mail click on the first one that comes up then click on pricing and scroll down so we obviously want the free plan so scroll all the way down to see free plan and click get started all you need to then do is add in the domain name that you've registered on GoDaddy so for me I've already registered detail hub before with Soho so I'm gonna pick a different domain so if I pick another domain that I own then you have to enter in your personal details the administrator account is really important so this part here is basically the name of the email address so you want to do it as something like info at the domain comm or inquiries or contact rather than your personal name because when customers are going to send you emails it's going to look a bit weird for them to send you an email to someone's personal name so I'm going to put this as info actually I like contact so going to put its contact enter in your mobile number and then pick a password and reenter your password and then click Sign Up so the tip might take a few minutes to sign up once you've signed up I'm gonna save this you will then be asked for a verification code that is sent to your mobile so I've actually entered in the wrong robot number so give me a second let me just change this United Kingdom cuz I'm just gonna re-enter my mobile number in click update mobile and they should resend me the code now so once you get the code all you're going to do is enter the verification code in here so I've just received my now click verify my mobile and then you will come to this dashboard so it will ask you to verify the ownership of your domain so you can do this through GoDaddy so the first thing that you need to do is select your domains DNS manager so if you go to the drop down watch box sorry click GoDaddy and it will come up with two codes let's say so these two codes we're going to use in GoDaddy so if we go over to GoDaddy sign in select the domain you want to use so when you first sign in it will come up all the domains you own so maybe you just own one at this time go to DNS so if you click on DNS this is where we're gonna add these Zoho codes to connect up our email address so what you're going to want to do is click Add under add select cname and for host you're going to you're going to want to paste this Zoho code in there so control-c or command-c if you're on a Mac and paste this in here and then for points - you're going to want to paste this so this is a verifying so hope so you can see points - there so you grab that one you paste that one in there for TTL you can leave it as one hour that's fine it doesn't really matter and all you need to do then is click Save we're actually going to change this part here to half an hour because we want to verify our domain with Zoho as quick as possible so you want to put that time as low as possible so click Save again and then if we go back to the zero domain setup we can see on here if you just read through here it will say you have now added the cname success you have to wait for at least an hour for the changes to take effect in the DNS server after an hour to log into your Zoho control panel and click verify so I'm gonna come back to this in an hour click proceed to cname verification and then hopefully our domain will be verified so it's been about 2 hours now since I verified my GoDaddy domain with zero mail so I'm gonna click proceed to cname verification create great the cname records of the domain are perfect so click verify now so that's perfect hopefully the same works for you after 2 hours so click verify now and once again you have the option to change the email address so I've left it as contact at the domain COMSAT detail hub comm or wherever your domain is for your subscription box so then all we're going to do is create account you can add users I'm not going to do this bit this is basically you know if you have multiple people in your company and you want to add different users with different email accounts I'm not going to do this I'm just gonna skip this and this is the same if you want to add groups so I'm just going to skip this as well because we just want one central email for the moment for customers to contact us on skip this so the next thing we're going to do we're going to add these MX records to Zoho so from Zoho to GoDaddy sorry so MX means mail exchange so if we go over to domain back in our DNS management so for our domain so I'll just show you how to get here so from domains you click on the domain you want to use you go to manage DNS and you're back here we're gonna add something so go to the balm and click Add we're going to click Add em X so mail exchange we're going to add this so in the host we're going to actually add so go back to here the host is just going to be apt so I'm going to ctrl see that and we're going to add that in here oops just copy that again they saying it so and where it points to that's this so we're going to copy this copy that and paste that in there and then priority so we're going to copy the priority from here so the priority is 10 at the moment so we're gonna put 10 in here and this TTL you can leave it as an hour this time it doesn't really matter so click Save and next one we're gonna add the bottom one in so the host is at again so click add select it mail exchange MX in here we add add in here we add this one so the second one paste that in there priority this time is 20 so if you see here it's 20 so we're going to put 20 in there you couldn't leave that as an arrow game and we're gonna click Save now that's done we go back here and we do an MX lookup it's saying no image records at the moment so it might take a little while for the MX records to come up I'm just gonna have a look over this again but it should will work after looking the documentation will just click MX look up again and it's working perfectly so you can see the status is both green so we can click OK now we'll click Next we can skip this again we don't need to use this and email migration if it is if you wanted to migrate another email account over to this email account so we can skip this as well with mobile access all you need to do is download the Zoho mail admin app and log in with the details you originally signed up on xur hope mail with so at the moment I'm going to skip this as well but if you choose you know if you wanna have mobile access to your subscription stores email account then just download this app and you can log in like normal I'm gonna skip this again so now our email address is actually set up our professional email just for free for our subscription store is set up so if we click go to the server workplace and you go to mail here so the first part here is go to mail if I copy this email address quickly once that's loading so here's the inbox for our new professional email for our subscription box service so I'm just gonna say see this later because I don't want to go through any of this and now we're going to send a test email to this professional email address we have created for our subscription box service so let me just head over to an Outlook account I've created and I'll just click new if I just paste that email address in there that I copied earlier actually sorry that's not right let me just type it in so I don't get the wrong email address this one here and I'm just going to put test subscription email and we'll send that so just click send if I head back over to my zero mail inbox you'll see the email is just showing up so that's perfect everything is working perfectly we have set up our professional email for our subscription box service and it hasn't cost us a penny and the like I said it's really important for customers to be able to contact us on a professional email so now we've done this I'm gonna head over to Google and I'm going to show you guys how to create a professional looking logo for absolutely free again so now that we've created our professional email for our subscription box service we're gonna go on to creating a logo and that's getting a little bit more exciting we're gonna create something more visual and it's gonna bring our subscription box service to life why I would say is don't spend days and weeks trying to perfect your logo let's get the website up and running first get the business going and then once you spend a little bit more time you can always amend your logo and make it look better also would suggest don't spend a lot of money on a logo on in resident effect don't spend any money logo because you can create a perfectly good one for free which is what I'm going to show you how to do I'll show you one I purchased off of Fiverr for 17 dollars it cost me about 20 pounds in England so here it is it's not you know there's not been a great amount of design work that's gone into this it's nothing amazing I would say that I couldn't create myself so that's why I would suggest don't go on Fiverr and purchase a logo just go and get it for free so we're gonna do is we're gonna head over to canva.com so i don't know if you've heard of camera before it's basically an online platform that has designed templates that everybody can use so all you need to do is click personal and sign up with an email I've already signed up the ball before so I'm gonna log in and once you're on your dashboard you see all of these different design styles things that you can create so you can see here I've already started playing around with a detail hub logo for my subscription box service so if you click create a design you'll see there's loads of different design templates we're going to go to for the logo one so once we're here you'll see loads of different logo templates down the side so you're going to want to pick one that matches your subscription box services style so you know if you're in the child children industry you want to pick something that's more geared towards children if you're in the food industry something to do around food obviously I'm gearing it towards men's to accessories so I want to pick something luxury something cool something sleek the men who wear suits are gonna find visually appealing so if I scroll down I can pick let's go for this one and I'll show you how easy it is to customize this logo so I'm gonna go and retype detail hub in here make the font a little bit smaller I want my logo to be black and then if in here I can it's all in the detail I like that make this a little bit longer so the font fits in you can line it all up perfectly we'll make this black again and then if you want to add some elements to it so some shapes you can add some shapes in so I'm going to add a line make this thin it can be a little bit fill it sometimes but generally it's okay and then we'll add a circle in there as well obviously hopefully not that big I'll just add it in here perfect there you go a logo done in about five minutes so of course you can play around for it as long as you want try out different logo templates different fonts so in here you can pick different fonts from here font sizes you can make things bold if you you can try out different stuff once you're finished with your logo all you need to do is click on download so if I click download you want to just download it as a PNG that's fine unfortunately you cannot make the background transparent yet you can pay extra so canva premium to get transparent backgrounds as the header of our website is gonna be white so it doesn't really matter but if you do want to do that for your own website go for it or you can always just Photoshop the background out yourself so I'm gonna click download so it takes a little while just to download it then if I go to my downloads you'll see here is my detailed logo and it's simple as that to get professional logo you didn't have to spend any money you didn't have to wait weeks on end you know as for a designer to create for you or you didn't have to spend weeks yourself creating it it's that simple it's quick and easy to create a nice professional logo so now that we've created our logo we're gonna move on to actually creating our Shopify store for our subscription box so I'm gonna go over to Shopify I'm going to start that so the first thing to do when you're going to create your Shopify store for your subscription box service is to pick a theme so a theme is essentially how your Shopify store is going to look so let me just go back to the home and I'll show you actually so if you click on online store the first thing that will come up is themes so currently installed is the Debu theme I actually really like this theme and I'm gonna use this theme for the rest of the tutorial but if you want to choose a different theme click explore free themes I'm assuming you know you're probably going to want to keep cross load to start with so I would suggest using a free theme you can see loads of different themes here it's a few click on one all you have to do is click the one you like you can pick different styles and click Add and it will upload that theme to your store automatically like I said I really like the debut theme which is pre-installed on my Shopify store and it will be on yours because I've used it before I'm quite familiar with it and I like how it kind of ties in with a subscription box service so we're gonna stick with that theme to begin to begin with and like I said if you want to pick your own theme go for it so now I've got a theme installed we're going to start customizing our store so the first thing we're going to do when we start customizing our store is add all of the crucial pages that we need once we've created all of the pages then we can start adding the menus and creating the homepage so on the left hand side under online store just click on pages then all we need to do is in the top right here add page so the first pages we're going to add are all of the mandatory pages so the legal pages that we need to add so the first one we'll add is the Terms of Service so you just type your title page in here and click Save we're not going to add any content to it yet I'm going to show you where you can get some free Terms of Service content that we can add in here later if we click Save on that then all we're going to do is go back to pages and add another page so I'm going to start adding these so the next page we're going to add is a privacy policy once again this is a mandatory page that needs to be on every online store and like I said I will show you where we can get content to add to these privacy policies click Save go back to pages I'm sorry not yet let's save this first and then go back to pages let me just read this some reason it's not saving give me a second okay hopefully it's safe now yep yes a No all right so now we're gonna add another page we're gonna add our refund policy give it a little second just so I can guarantee that it's actually saved you might have to click it a few times you'll find some times just to make sure it's actually saved maybe sometimes you try the bottom right one just to guarantee that it's saved it may perhaps be my internet connection okay let's just leave this and it does save but for some reason it's saying it's not so don't worry about that if you see that if that constantly keeps happening to you like it was to me just click back and it will save anyway the next page we're gonna add is delivery and returns save that one you can actually create another page so we'll leave this one then we're going to add a contact page so contact us so this on this page we can add the professional email that we created earlier if customers wish to contact us so we'll save this and then we'll create one more page for now the about Us page so this is the page where you can describe what your subscription box service is or what your company is your missions your goals and things like that to give the customer a feel of what your actual brand is all about click Save and we'll go back to pages we'll see all of our pages are set up here so now we have our pages we're actually going to get some free content to add to these mandatory pages so the terms of service refund policy and privacy policy so if you go to google and you type in terms and conditions shopify click on the first one the Terms & Conditions generator scroll down it says get your terms plus a 14-day free trial we don't want that because we already have the 14-day free trial so we say I'll skip this and then we need to enter some details so in the company name you want to put your store name so that's on the Terms of Service template the company name is going to be filled out as your store name so I'm just going to put detail hub tutorial on the email address it's going to populate everything in the Terms of Service with the email address you would want your customers to contact you so in here you want to put the professional email address we created earlier so I'm just going to put mine in but for you guys make sure you put the professional email address that you created earlier in the address here this is the address of your company so in the Terms of Service content you want to have an address for your company so if it's just your home address just put that that's fine because if you're running your subscription box service from home your address for your company is your house so I'm just gonna put my home address in here change this to the United Kingdom and put my scene then for your website you're obviously going to want to put your domain name for your subscription box then all you need to do is click semi terms and conditions it once again prompt you to have to use a 14-day free trial you don't need this so we can click off of this once that's done go over to your professional email outbox inbox sorry and you'll see here so I've just sent mine to an Outlook but if you go over to your Zoho account it'll be sent there just click on get your terms and conditions so now you'll see here terms and conditions so like I said here is the company name so your store name so you'll see all of these things are pre-populated if you scroll down I'm sure you'll see the email address in here somewhere if I keep scrolling and you'll also see your personal address the one that you put down as your company address so what we're going to do is we're gonna copy this to the clipboard and we're going to paste this in our Terms of Service content so just control V so like I said there you go here is the address so you feel free you know to go through this and read it and if there's anything that you know you don't want displayed on here you can delete it or replace it so that's how you get a free Terms of Service content so we're going to save this now and this page is saved so we're going to do that now twice over so we're going to go and get our privacy policy so we're going to do the same thing again we don't we'll skip the 14-day free trial enter a company name in enter our email address in into our personal address and enter our website naming and semi privacy policy once again we're gonna click off of this go back to your email you see your privacy policy is ready you click get your privacy policy once again you simply click copy to clipboard go back to Shopify back to pages click on your privacy policy and paste what you copied in here once again I would suggest going through this make sure you read it all make sure everything's right or you know you don't have to read it word for word but at least skim it over and make sure there's nothing in here that you don't want in here if you don't want your personal address in here change it to something that you would like it to be or you know maybe you want to change the email address it's up to you so we click Save and we're going to do the last one for our refunds policy we'll go back here back to the Shopify generator Terms & Conditions generator we'll go to get a refund policy and we'll do the exact same thing again skip the 14-day free trial enter in our company email address company address and our website name and send me a returns policy or refund policy doesn't really matter go back to email and you'll see it's here so you click on the email get refund policy now once again copy to the clipboard and click on your refunds policy and you paste it in here now this one is a little bit different to the other two policies I would say pay a little bit more attention to the refunds policy don't just copy and paste it in there read it over make sure it's you know a refund policy that you're happy to have for your subscription box so there template one lasts for 30 days you might want your refund policy to last for 14 days or for 60 days so you tailor it to suit wherever suits your subscription box service so now we've done that we're going to save that so we've got our three mandatory pages with all of the content completed now we're gonna go and start adding things to a menu so in order to add things to a menu we need to go to navigation so under online store click navigation so all of the mandatory legal pages we're gonna add to the footer menu so if we ever look at a another kind of online store so I've just picked Gucci com if you scroll all the way to the balm you'll see they've got all of their privacy policy Contact Us page and stuff like that in there footer rarely you'll see websites that put that stuff in their header because it just doesn't it just looked weird and it's just not the done thing so what we're gonna do is we're gonna add these pages to our footer menu first so if we click on footer menu and click Add menu item we're gonna type in so the first one want to add so all we need to do is where it says link you click on it scroll down to pages and we'll add the privacy policy first automatically fills out the name for you so we just call it a privacy policy and just click Add then we're going to add another item so we'll add so we scroll down to pages again we'll add the refund policy and once again it fills out the name just click Add and then we'll add another page Terms of Service and we'll just click Add where else we're going to add to the footer menu is the contact us page which we haven't filled out yet but we will and also the deliveries and returns so I know refunds is similar to returns but we're going to add to every and returns together just to reiterate to our customers about the refunds policy and also what are the terms of delivery so how long it takes and stuff for their subscription box to arrive and how frequently so going to add this to the footer menu as well and click Add and all we're going to do then is save this so now if we go back to navigation we can start changing our main menu so if we click on main menu you'll see it has home and catalog now if you notice again on most websites in the menu you won't see a home button generally the logo is the home button so you click on the logo and that's the home button it works the same with Shopify when you upload your logo it acts as the home button so if we go back to Shopify we can actually delete this menu item of home because we don't want that in our menu it's not necessary if the logo performs the same action so we'll delete this and we can also delete the catalog because we're not going to be using that we're going to create a collection with all of our subscription box service packages so a rolling monthly package or 3-month bulk package so we don't need this catalog so we can delete this for now as well all we're going to add in here for now is our about Us page so the about last page is something that generally not always but on some sites is present in the header menu so we're going to add that in there and then we'll add some content to these pages later so if we just click Save and now we can actually go and start customizing our home page so customer customizing our theme the actual look of it so now we're going to start creating our home page so if we go back over to themes and click customize so it just loads this is what our home page currently looks like so the first thing we're going to do is upload our logo so you see here in the left hand corner this is just like a substitute for your logo that Shopify creates with your store name if you click on header so this is the header you'll be able to select an image for your logo so the one we downloaded from Campbell earlier the logo we created we can select that image and add it to here so if you upload an image if I go to my downloads I can upload the detail hub image I saved earlier now you see you'll notice it's quite small it depends on how you've designed your logo so mine's more of a vertical logo so if I select this you see it's quite small and even if I change the pixel size so the pixel size makes it bigger and smaller so if I change this to 200 it's bigger but it's making the whole menu too big so what I'm gonna do I'm gonna actually chop my logo size down you guys can do this as well and if you've created a logo that you want it to be bigger like that so I'll show you how you can chop your logo down so if I just open the file explorer go to downloads open the image that we saved from canva if I open the snipping tool so if you go into Windows and you type in the snipping tool I'm sure there's something similar on Mac click on this and you can simply just go around the bit that you want to snip out so now I've made my logo a little bit smaller or more vertical I can save this so I'll just save it as logo and I can actually upload this and it will look better as a logo so if I edit this now let's remove and select another image so if I go to pictures and my logo you'll notice now that my logo is a little bit more aligned in the menu isn't so big so we could play around with the size you can make it whatever size you like so let's just go with something like to 10 pixels and then if you click on this button here it will show you what your store looks like on a mobile so we click this you always want your logo to look still pretty decent on a mobile as well so don't make it too big so if I change this now to something like 310 oh well there you go then it's perfect so Shopify has actually created it in a way that it can't go any bigger than a certain size on a mobile which is perfect and on here would actually become a lot bigger we don't want to do that anyway so we're gonna leave this 210 so all you need to do then you can muck around with it if you want it in the center you can put it in the center I prefer mine on the left I think it looks more clean and we can click back the next part that they've included is as a default page layout is image with text overlay so we're going to keep this the next part of the tutorial I would suggest if you want to follow along step 4 step head back over to venture sensei comm so if we just go to the home page if you pillo click on the tutorial again so venture sensei calm go to the tutorial and download the tutorial images so these are all the images that I'm going to be using to create the home page so if you want to use the if you want to follow the tutorial will completely step-by-step download these images you simply click it they'll come to your downloads so takes a few seconds if I go back to my downloads what we have to do is right click and click extract here once you extract it so I'll show you you will see down here that it's been extracted you can click on it you can click on images and you'll see all it said these are all of the images that we're going to use in this tutorial if you want to completely follow a step that said if not it's up to you so now we've downloaded all of the necessary images for the tutorial to create the home page I'm going to go over to some web pages to show you where I get inspiration for you know creating my home page for my subscription box so obviously my subscription box is a men's suit accessory subscription box so I'm gonna base it on something similar which is Spurs a box so they've gone with a sort of large full width image and they've got a call to action here get started so on this button you click on it and you can actually look through the different plans for a subscription box if we scroll down they've got like an image gallery so select your plan the stylist gets to work so where they pick your product for your subscription box and you check your mail your subscription box is there so it's a three image gallery we scroll down they've got some more products an area to enter your email address to sign up for their newsletter and then we've got the footer at the bottom if I have a look at a so this is Birchbox this is a woman's makeup subscription box so they've got a similar thing for its image get started so this is going to bring you to their subscription boxes if we scroll down they've got a three image gallery again so very similar obviously it's more tailored towards their subscription box but it's very similar to spur the box and if we look at the final one charm with me clubs so this is a subscription box for jewelry each month they haven't gone with the full width image but they've still got a call to action behind for grab subscribe now so that's similar to the get started and if we scroll down they've gone with a three image gallery again very similar to the other two so you pick your plan receive your geek charms and enjoy with the hashtag charm with me club so it's very still very similar at the top called action with some nice images and then a three image gallery so that's something that we're gonna go with on our Shopify store so we're going to do is we're going to start deleting everything off that we don't need and then we'll start adding in things to create the homepage and make it similar to these other subscription box services so like the three other websites we just looked at we're going to stick with this large main image because that's what you know seems to be quite a popular design theme at the moment not with only subscription box websites but with many websites so if we go to image with text overlay so that's this first part here we're going to select an image so if you go to the images you've just downloaded from the sub Shopify a subscription box this one here the main image this is the image we're going to use for this large image as soon as you go onto the web page so if we just upload this it takes a little while just to upload and you'll see it's uploaded here to the main image area so if we get just select that you can align it top bottom middle either way whatever way you like it wherever suits your images best for your subscription box so I think we'll go with middle I like middle then we can start adding some text on here so you want to add something that's going to entice your customers as soon as they come onto your website so for me I'm gonna put something like amazing style parents per month something like that so wherever your subscription box is so let's go back to the iron on patches idea it could be something like custom clothes every month for just $10 something like that and then in here you want to put something you know a small amount of text - well entire show customers more so I'm gonna put something so I'm going to show you this layer so we're gonna later on we're gonna add some products on to our store and we're gonna put them a really high price to make it look like the subscription box is much more value for money to the customer so I could say something like guaranteed if I can spell 20 pounds so not 20 you want it to be more than the subscription box guaranteed 50 pounds in value so all that means is if I sell one tie one lapel pin and one pocket square every month in my subscription box it's gonna cost them 20 pounds if they go onto my website and look at individual products they'll see a pocket square for 20 pounds a tie for 20 pounds and a lapel pin for 10 pounds so when they add them up individually if they were to buy them off my website individually it would cost them 50 pounds but if they buy it in a subscription box it's gonna cost them 20 so what you want to do is you want to you know it's a kind of psychological trick to make the subscription box look more value for money so we'll add in individual items later on so let's not worry about that for now all we're doing right now is creating a home page so you want to add something like this onto your homepage with an image here with images I recommend whatever your niche is go and take your own images so this image here this is me dressed up in a suit so I'll show you him here's the images I took these on snapchat with a Samsung s6 so it's nothing fancy or anything like that so here's me with my suit on I've took some pictures so I got my girlfriend to take some pictures with my s6 on snapchat and all I've done is Photoshop the background out I actually I didn't even Photoshop the background now I went on Fiverr and I paid someone to first look the background out of all of these images it cost me about $10 so it's really cheap I would say just invest that little bit extra in the images because it makes your website look way more professional so when someone's gonna want to buy your subscription box it looks way more professional than using stock images from you know Flickr and websites with loads of free images because they just they don't really talk show off your products that you're trying to sell in your subscription box so once again let's say the iron on patch idea you could wear some t-shirts and just take some pictures with the patches iron on it's not going to cost you that much to actually order some of the products firsthand and just try them on and only then you need to do is first off the background out and you can add them on here so like I said this is me with my suit and here's again just a larger image that I'm gonna use it's also worth noting that all of the images in this picture are actually products from Aliexpress so I haven't used different products that are gonna be in my subscription box I'm not trying to trick people so for example this pocket square if we're going to LA Express you can see it here so it's a $1 60 pocket square so relatively cheap you can actually just make them look nice if you you know you put them on and take a nice picture with your camera phone it's pretty simple so what we're gonna do next we're gonna save this and we're gonna go back and we're going to start deleting some of the stuff we don't need so the next part we need for our subscription box is the three image gallery so like I mentioned with all of these websites a nice three image gallery with the products so if I go back to our store we're going to start deleting all of these default sections that come on to your theme when you first sign up for Shopify because we don't need them so all you want if you want to delete a section you simply click on a section so scroll down and click remove section it's that simple so we're gonna get rid of these get rid of a slideshow and at the moment for some reason our logo is not uploading so I'm going to upload this again just to see everything coming together I think that should save I'm hoping yep we just click Save again so now our stores prepare we've deleted everything off of it it's pretty empty so what we're gonna do next we're gonna like I said add this free gallery right so if you want to add a free gallery you click Add section scroll down so you have all of these different types of sections you can add you can add a normal gallery image with text anything you want so it's up to you how you want to design your subscription box website your store I'm just showing you you know what are the typical ways that they're usually designed and things that work you know for converting customers so we're going to do is we're going to click text with column images and click Add so now we've got our three images or three image galleries similar to the other websites and we can actually start customizing this so for the first one I'm just going to copy spread the box I don't know what they have for their ones find what works for you and they don't have anything but I'm just gonna go with how it works it's easy simple you know sums up how does the subscription block works how it works so figure back here where it says text with column images best bits bit here I'm just going to put in here how it works simple text alignment centered left either way it doesn't matter it's always in the center so now we're going to do is this here are the three images so I'm going to copy spread the box again so we've got select your plan so I'm going to go with so if you just open up this is the first image open up the image and then click right click on this heading and type in select your plan and then we're going to select an image so I'm gonna select another image from the images that you guys have downloaded from the venture sensor comm website so the first image is this one pick your plan so we'll add that in there hopefully it comes out okay perfect so like I said once again this is an image I've taken myself so I will show you accessories I'll show the original image I think it's this one this one yeah so you can see here I've just taken it on the floor in my bedroom laminate in the background and I've just photoshopped out and added a gray background on using canva that I showed you earlier there's loads of different templates even if you pick the logo template again you can just drag an image onto canva and add a gray background on or you can get someone from fire with deferred well sorry I did get someone from fire to first short the background out first and then just made it great on camera just to clarify I don't want you to think that you can get rid of backgrounds on canva so like I said you can just order some products from Aliexpress you don't have to spend a lot you can order a few of them and just take a nice picture of them put together packaging I'm going to show you how to create later on so don't worry about that you can take some pictures once you actually order the package so we're gonna upload that with select your plan and just click select and in here you want to add some text about selecting a plan so I'm just gonna go back here and just copy this and we'll just save that so that's my first image then we're going to add a second image in so suppose the box have gone with our style let's get to work so that's this one we'll get to work so select that image from the downloaded images you downloaded just why that loads and we'll just select that and the title tag here is we'll just put lit stylist get to work so wherever your niche is guys maybe have a look at the competitors website don't copy it word-for-word you don't want to make you want to make it unique but maybe make it something similar or you can get ideas from there so once again going back to the iron on patches idea it could be you know you select your plan like normal 12 month plan or a monthly plan or you can play for three months up front then let our patch expert get to work I don't know something like that and then I'm just going to copy this it here again so this bit here is quite important on your site this middle bit so in here I've put a stylist will handpick five to six different products or we always to keep so that is down to you how many products you want to put in your subscription box if you're you know if you've got a makeup subscription box or I don't know let's say that I on patches again you want to specify how many products are going to be in your box you don't want to lie to people you don't want to cheat people out of their money because they're going to ask for a refund so if you've got a make up to to make up subscription box or you're gonna you know if you're putting two items in every month in your subscription box just say in their you know a makeup specialist will handpick two items every month we ought to keep don't put five to six if you're not going to honor what you've said on your website because you'll get a lot of complaints and your end up shutting down because people won't buy anything from you so that's that done and then we'll just do the last one which is check your mail box okay so if you go back to the images downloaded receive your box and once again all I've done is take some pictures so here it is on a table in my kitchen of the products in a box took it from a bird's eye view with the s6 Photoshop the background out simple on Fiverr cost me $10 on Fiverr to crop all of these and the other ones as well to crop the backgrounds out so it's it's relatively cheap just for you know to have some nice images that are actually relevant to your subscription box so go back that's uploaded now you select that and we look on here check your mail box so in the UK we don't really use the word mail box we say we call it the post so I'm just gonna say receive your box I can't spell today receive and in here I'm just gonna copy this text again just for the purpose of the tutorial just to speed things up a little bit like I said you know take some time to actually write your own content on your website and we just click Save so let's see how our website is coming together our subscription box store so if we go back you see you log on there should be a little button here to make this full width I think it's this so we've made it full width so when someone comes on to our website now this was going to so you've got your logo in the corner that we designed on canva for free we've got our main image with a nice image of our products what's included so you see here when you actually make the website full screen the image might change a little bit so you know be sure to whoops sorry guys there's no go back to customize Marko's saying the image changes a bit when you resize the the browser so if I just click it's this one again so you'll see here this image resizes a bit so under here if you just play around with the alignment until so maybe that looks a little bit better something like that but yeah it's really coming together so we've got our main header we're going to add a call to action button here afterwards so that we can get started like these ones or subscribe now whatever you choose we're going to add a call to action button once we've set up our subscription boxes collection so what different plans we're going to have so a monthly plan if they want to pay 3 months up front 12 months up front so once we create that then we'll add another button in here and if we scroll down then we've got how it works so I've got some nice images select your plan the stylist picking out different products and you receiving your products in the box so not next what we're gonna do is we're actually going to create the subscription boxes the collections for the script subscription boxes so we can add that button in here and start finalizing the first half of the homepage off so in order to stop a collection for our subscription boxes we need to go back to the Shopify back-end so if you're just click in the top left hand corner and then click on products and collections and now we can set up a collection for our subscription boxes so the first thing I'm going to do is delete this home collection because we don't need this so all you need to do is select it click on bulk actions and delete selected collection so we'll delete that and now we can create a fresh collection so I click on create collection and our collection is going to be subscription boxes so all a collection really is is a group of products so we want a different group of products for our subscription boxes which is going to be kind of tiers for our subscription boxes so a monthly tier three months and twelve so for now we'll leave the description blank we'll add this in when we add the finishing finishing touches to our website and all we want to do now is set the conditions so the conditions basically mean when you create a product anything that matches these conditions will go into this collection so we're going to go for product title contains subscription so now whenever we create a product with subscription in the title it will automatically be added to the column subscription boxes collection we won't do anything to do with SEO yet I'll cover this in a video where I go over marketing your subscription box so once you've set up a collection we just need to click the Save the next thing we can do is add a product to our collection so if I go to all products add a product and the first product we're gonna have add is monthly subscription box like I said we're not going to add a subscription in yet we can add this in when we add in the finishing touches to our website so all we need to do now is upload an image so if you click upload an image you can upload one of the images you downloaded from the venture sensei website so I'm going to upload this one month one of course if you want to upload your own images I'll show you how to do that as well so if I go back to canva which we used earlier to create our logo the the best size for these images are found is so they need to be quite large so they can be seen on your website so I've gone for one eight three five by one five six seven something around that size so all you need to do is when you're in camera is use custom dimensions so it was one eight three five by one five six seven and click design and now you can start creating your own images similar to this one for your product images for your monthly subscription boxes so if we go to elements shapes we can add a border in if we want to of course you can play around with it as long as you want and make it look you know to match your website so let's say we were on a woman's subscription box for makeup we can make this purple or something like that we can add a line in here I just make that a bit of smaller we can make this purple as well and you can basically just copy the same format as this so I'll just do a little bit more just to show you guys so I'll just add some text in one subscription and I'll add some extra text in we can just say $20 a month of course you want to spend a little bit more time on the design to make it look nicer and match the niche that you're in but I'm just giving you the general idea so we can just put $20 per month so you get the idea oops and then once you're done all you need to do the same with your logo click download and it will be saved in your downloads then you can upload that under your products on Shopify so if we carry on adding the products so we've added our first product it's got subscription in the title so it will automatically go under the subscription boxes collection and we click Save now we're going to add another product so I'll go back to products click add product and this one is going to be a three-month subscription so we'll just add the image for this as well for three months so the purpose of having tears for your subscription boxes is to make it cheaper if a customer buys more of your boxes so for example I'm charging 22 pounds per month if they pay every single month if they're buy three boxes three monthly boxes all in one go they make a saving of roughly 1 pound 60 or you know you can play around with the pricing that suits you but this makes it's ensures that I still make a profit while I'm actually getting a larger lump sum of cash up front so we're gonna do is we're gonna add the price in here so the price for this one is 61 pounds so thereby 3 months for 61 pounds and it works out at 20 pounds of the 33 P per month so once you've done this we can just click Save again I remember I haven't added a price for this one so I just need to go back and do that so this one is 22 pounds a month so for this one we'll put 22 pounds because that's paid every month and later on we'll set up the app that allows you to recharge your customers every month so we just click save on that again and we'll just add one more product so a 12 month subscription like I said you can have as many tiers as you want you can have monthly 3 months 6 months 9 months I'm just going to keep it simple and go for monthly 3 months and 12 month so we'll upload the image for this as well and we'll just make this so this is 240 pounds so for a yearly subscription I'm charging 20 pounds per month so if they buy yearly they save 2 pounds every month so we'll just put 240 in there of course people generally won't buy these straight away they'll buy a monthly subscription if they like your boxes then they'll decide to buy 12 months all in one go or 3 months so we can just click Save and if we go back to our collections now hopefully our boxes should have been added here so you can scroll down you see products so these food products have been added to this collection just as I'd promised so now we'll go to the navigation and we're going to add our subscription box collection to our main menu on our home page so we go back to navigation online store navigation we'll go to our main menu so you can see here I've already added it I'll delete it and I'll show you guys how to add it again just in case so we go add menu item subscription boxes collections and you'll see their subscription boxes is under collections so we'll just click on that and click bad and safe okay perfect so now we've set up our collection for all of our subscription box tiers so now if we go back to the home page we should see on here you can see subscription boxes has been added to the main menu so if I click on that it brings you to my subscription boxes collection and you'll see my three products here so customers can now see which tiers are available how much they cost you know how long they last for twelve months three months or every month so what we're going to do is we'll go back to our home page and we're going to add a button in here that brings the customer to subscription boxes as well so similar to these websites that I showed you earlier so this one the men's accessories one where it says get started and this birch box where it says get started and charm with me club have subscribed now so we're gonna add a button in like that so all you need to do is go back to the customizable view so just click this middle one here this middle icon and we're going to go back to our full width image scroll down and under button label I'm gonna go with get started which is similar to the other websites but you can put you know whoever text you like in so button label get started and the button link is going to be the collection we just created so subscription boxes so I'll just show you again click on collections and subscription boxes then just click Save so now you can see our websites coming together if I click on this it should bring me to the subscription box collection and once again you can see it works perfectly fine all of these subscription box tiers show for the customer to see so I'll just go back to our homepage and now we can start finalizing everything on our homepage and what I'm actually going to do after that is start tweaking the design of my website to make it a bit more friendly on the eye and more geared towards my niche so the next section we're going to add on our homepage so if you scroll on here you'll see we've got how it works latest boxes so that's something you could potentially add in the future we're going to leave that for now we're going to add in individual products later like I said just to show that it's worth more value to the customer for them to purchase a subscription box than an individual item and we're just going to add one of these signup forms so we can catch capture email addresses from customers and that way we can send them marketing material through email so we have a look at some of the other websites how they've laid theirs out pretty similar so I think these are what was included in the January box some individual by oh this is Instagram I'm assuming some reviews so there's a lot more you can add once you start growing your subscription we're just going to keep it simple for now on our homepage and then we can start adding things as it grows so there one is pretty simple charm with me Club so we'll follow something similar to them so let's go back the next section we're going to add is featured products so I think we can add three of these featured products actually we're going to add a featured collection that's what we're going to add so we'll click on this we'll select our collection and will click subscription boxes again and we'll click select so now if we go back we can see it's all coming together and it's really pushing the customer towards purchasing a subscription box so if we scroll down you see we've got a nice image to start off with nice text to just you know immediately tell us tell the customer what the website is all about and while subscription box is all about they can get started immediately so then when I find out some more information they can scroll down about how their subscription box works and then if they continue to scroll they'll see here the actual subscription boxes so we click on here we don't want this feature to collection so we're gonna say something like subscription box tears so now the customer can know exactly the process what to go through so summarizing oops summarizing the subscription box how much it costs how much the value is worth and they can go straight from there and look at the subscription boxes they want they keep scrolling they see how it works and then they keep scrolling and they can see the prices clearly set out so that's perfect and now we're going to add in the email capture so I believe it's this news little one yep so we'll just go back so we'll add this in and we'll say subscribe to our newsletter oh yeah that's fine we can say subscribe to a newsletter we want the background in I think that looks nice and you of course want to change this text so just say to receive the latest news and offers products something like that let me just get rid of this sorry guys and we'll just dig safe perfect so we go back now like I said later on we're gonna add individual products onto our home page once I show you how to add them just to entice the customer you could add a blog on here so I'll show you guys how to actually add a blog but for now I'm gonna say that's my home page finalized I want to keep it simple and I want to entice the customers to buy subscription boxes and nothing else so what we're gonna do now is we're going to actually start tweaking the design of the website make it look a bit nicer you know style it differently and then I will show you guys how to set up the recharge app so you can charge customers every month for your subscription box so I'm just gonna go give you a quick overview of how to change this style of your website so what you need to do is go to theme settings so we've got our sections if you click on theme settings you'll see all of these different options colors typography social media favicon checkout so it's pretty easy and straightforward to change the style of your website two things to take big notice of our font pairings so by that I mean the front here and the front here they have to be able to work together so if you've got two fonts that they don't look very good together it's really going to change the look and feel of your website and could potentially make your website look kind of unprofessional and that's going to end up driving customers away so I've found there's loads on the internet about font pairings there's this great blog from creative block so I'll leave it linked in the description to this just about different font pairings that work a lot of these fonts well not actually a few of these fonts you can use on Shopify so these two are definitely on sapphire so I'm going to use these two fonts but yeah like I said just make sure you know have a look at different font pairings and make sure that you pick something that that's good together but also that suits your niche so I can say for my men's subscription box service these two fonts suit my niche for a woman women's makeup subscription box these two wouldn't probably really suit my niche because they're not very women ly fonts something more like this would be bare for a woman's makeup subscription box because it's a lot more you know feminine so if I just go back to Shopify I'm going to start changing the typography so all we need to do is click on typography so this is just going to change the typography for our homepage so you can change everything page by page which I'll show you how to do so I just click on typography the first one I wanted to use was Helvetica new so let's just wait for that to update and you can see it's updated perfectly fine here you can change the size we can go so he pixels or 20 pixels wherever you like whether you think suits your website better I'm just going to leave it for the default 26 I think that looks a fairly decent size and it gets the point across to the customer pretty quickly and the second font type we're gonna go for was Garamond I think Garamond here we are so that's perfect that changes so this is the body text all of the kind of smaller text you could say so here's my heading text and here is my body text I'll go I'll show you another quick font pairing that kind of works well I think monserrate is a pretty nice font so actually I actually prefer that to Helvetica new and once the wrap and where is it crimson text used to go together pretty well so I think I'm actually going to stick with that I prefer that and you can change stuff you know to bold so you'll see things start bowling up you know you can really just alter everything to suit your your website into your niche so I'm gonna leave it like that so you can see here my menu has changed to crimson text and we just click Save if I go back we can change the colors so button text buttons text fill so you know feel free to just play around with the colors until you find something you like so let's say we were creating this charm club website it's actually very similar colors to ours now anyway but we could change the font to sort of purple so let me just have a look so we can change this body text to purple kind of similar purple and should change down here so you'll see it won't change on your home image well yeah like I said feel free play around with it and just see what suits on eesh I'm just going to change this back to black so you know worse you can change you can alter your checkout so obviously you want your checkout to look in the same manner as your website so I would say upload a logo on your checkout so I'll just upload this again and there's lots of our stiffs it's stuff you can alter on here so you can change the checkout background color and things like that so if I just go back I'm going to add a I'm not gonna add a favicon because it needs to be 32 by 32 but all you can do is like I said in canva if you use custom dimensions you can put 32 by 32 and you could simply duplicate your logo or you can create a favicon that's similar to your logo that you want to use so a favicon is basically in the browser bar there's a little logo next to the tab that you're in so that's what the favicon is so I'm not going to add that in and then social media so you can these are all automatically ticked so I think they should be showing show on Facebook on the products I believe so if I click on here yeah so you can see here these are all showing on the products if I go back to my homepage you can actually change these so actually let me go back to one of the products and if I go to social media this should work so if I just get Pontic Pinterest it should be removed so you can see there it gets removed so you might not have set up a Twitter for your subscription box you know when you're using social media marketing you might not set up a Twitter you might not want to use Twitter so you can just get rid of it as you please and in here you can add any type of social account you like so you can add an Instagram Tumblr snapchat YouTube they have everything on here so all you would need to do is set up an account on Instagram let's say and then just put a link to your Instagram so it's really simple to just customize your whole website I've gone over colors so yeah like I said it's really easy I am I mean personally for my subscription box service that I create here I actually really like the look of this just white and gray I think it looks clean and for a men's suit subscription it's really easy on the eye it kind of suits the niche well but like I said always try and suit your design to your niche so match your your fonts to where your niche niche is so it's if it's geared more towards women make it feminine you know you can change around the colors change things you know maybe to pink or if it's a food subscription box you can change it to green or anything you want so just have a play around with it I'll try and change some of the colors on here so let's say my background I think oh this is an image background so I don't need to worry about this my sorry my background for my whole website there we go so you get the idea I've changed that all to red now it looks quite stupid but you know like I said you can change it around to suit your niche so I'll just change that back to white and click Save so one way to do now is actually so the background here has changed to blue so that's the image overlays so actually I'm going to change that back to nothing and I change it to sort of and we don't like kind of grayish that looks quite nice that's sort of what it was anyway so I'm going to do now is now I've shown you how you can customize your website and change the fonts and change the colors I'm actually going to show you how to set up the recharge app so what the recharge app is when a customer purchases a monthly subscription box it's an app that you can add on to this product and it allows you to charge the customer every every month and it's automatic so it comes out of their bank account every single month and they decide to cancel your subscription so I'm going to go over to the Shopify backend and we're going to start setting up the recharge app so in order to set up the recharge app so that we can build our clusters every month we need to click apps and then we need to click visit Shopify App Store so the first thing we're going to do is download and install the app so if we go in here and we just type in recharge you see you'll see it come up first so recharge recurring billing and subscriptions you'll see here the price is $20 a month but don't panic so basically the first three months are totally free and then after that you'll have to start paying $20 a month the you know by the time three months passes hopefully you should have enough subscribers that $20 to charge for this app every month you won't even notice it you know it won't affect your profits from your subscription box so we're just going to click get and then click install it might take a few moments to install oh maybe not and under here where it says how do you want to offer your subscription products we're gonna select one-time and subscription you can do subscription only but because we have some one-time items such as the three-month subscription and the 12-month subscription we're going to leave it as that they only need to do is choose a product for the subscription so we're gonna go for the monthly subscription box it will take you to your website you don't need that so just click off of this and then click X and you see your product has been added to recharge so the next thing I'm going to do is the subscription frequency so as mine is a monthly subscription box you know you can do it there's low or as much as you want so you could put 7 days so it could be a weekly subscription box it might be quite hard to keep up with but you you can do that if you want bouncing believe it so that's the kind of default monthly subscription and then just click Next so it's saying syncing products next thing you do is add a payment gateway so a payment gave it is things like PayPal the default one I believe is stripe yet so stripe is another payment gateway similar to PayPal where you can accept card payments debit cards credit cards and the things things like that so I'm just going to click connect a new stripe account just to show you guys how to do it so then you just need to enter in your email address so I'm gonna go for venture since look on location of business I'm gonna go for United Kingdom you know wherever you are if you're in the United States select there I think yeah if you're in Australia you can pick that they have loads of other different countries on here if I'm cynical for the United Kingdom and then you just click next create a new stripe account so yes create a new account and it says now you can now accept and process subscription orders you'll get an email from start to setup your banking details you must complete this step to receive payments so just click continue and then if we go to our emails we'll see the email from stripe so I'll just click on this and all you need to do is click on claim your stripe account so I'll just click on here I'm gonna enter in a password and confirm my password and click Save your stripe account and then I don't want to save that view your dashboard so click on here dismiss this we don't need this so I'm just going to click on payments I'll actually I can start by clicking on activate your account so I've done my my country you can add some stuff in here about your products and add your Shopify website and if you have a registered business you can add in here your date of birth and your bank details so the main thing you need to do is you can actually fill out all of this stuff if you don't have it just leave it blank because some of its not mandatory and you can just click activate account so let me just add my bank account details in and all I'm going to do that is activate account I don't want to save this never and there you go it's that simple so thank you for being your account so if I head back to shop fine now and I click Next hopefully payments should be so so yes everything's working perfectly fine now so now we can test the recharge app just to make sure that it's working so we're currently in test mode I'm gonna go to complete setup and we can run our own test order from here so in order to run a complete test order to see if the products can be paid for completely and you receive the payment you actually do need to remove the password protection on your store so if you're creating your store in the trial period you can't actually remove the password without selecting a plan so I'll just show you what I mean so if we go to settings sales channels whew online store preferences you'll see here that our store is password-protected currently if I want to remove the password plus scroll down to disable your password page you need to pick a plan so all that means is you need to pick a Shopify plan to actually run a full test order so you need to have your Shopify store completely up and running but one way to to test if recharge has installed correctly on the product you want it to is just by checking out the product so first we're going to do is we're going to head back to apps and click on recharge and we're just going to make sure our rule sets were set up quickly so a rule set is just the rules for a product that you want to be a subscription so if I click on rule set this is the initial rule that we set up when we first initially signed up with the recharge so it just saves this example subscription so I'm just gonna open this up click got it we are going to change this actually to subscription only because I'm we want our subscription box to be subscription only we don't want it to be bought as a one-time product and we can just change this to something like monthly sub box we can see that where we originally set up to be charged every 30 days has saved and our product that we set up earlier monthly subscription box has also saved here so I'll just click Save and click got it so all we've really done is just renamed our rule set and just made sure that the product that we want it to be saved on is there so now if I go back to the online store so this is a one way to test if the recharge app has been set up on your product without actually completing a full test order as like I said you can't do that until you remove your password and you can't do that until you select a plan so if I go to customize and let's say I'm a customer so I'm going to act as a customer now I'll click get started I'll click monthly subscription box if I add this to cart so I'll just click Add to Cart now you'll see here it has Auto renew added on the end so if your product says Auto renew on the end that means that the recharged bap has successfully set up on your product so now if someone buys this product checks out it will be Auto renewed every month so every 30 days which is the rule set we set up for this product so that's one way of testing if it works without actually selecting a plan on your Shopify store if you do select a plan and you remove your password all you can do is in the recharger go back to the recharge app click run a test order and just follow the rules they're really simple so once you've removed your password from your store all you're doing is acting as a customer so you're adding the monthly subscription box product to your car you're gonna check it out with a real life credit card and then you're going to go back into recharge and just refund yourself before the money comes out of your account and then you can just cancel the order so you know if you want to select a plan and remove the password then you can go through these steps to run a full complete test order we're not going to do that today because I've shown you guys how to make sure that the recharge app is set up even without doing that so now that's it I'll recharge a piss-up on our product so we go back to products you'll see here we have monthly subscription box Auto renew it does say currently unavailable because our store is password protected I know it's duplicated here but it's basically this one is overriding this product so the Auto renew will always override the original product you created so the next steps we're going to do as part of setting up our subscription box store we're gonna start filling out all of the missing details on our website so the about page the delivery and returns the product descriptions and things like that so the first details we're going to add to the rest of our pages is to our delivering returns page so we'll click online store pages and delivering returns so we're gonna add some content in here now this is quite important so like I mentioned in the beginning of the video the advantage of having a subscription box service over a dropshipping store is that in here we can put once you have purchased your subscription box service you will receive the first box so by doing this the customer is it makes them more accepting to wait a month because they're going to receive a subscription box whereas with drop shipping if a customer orders one product they usually expect it to arrive within two to five days so it's hard to get around that with drop shipping but with a subscription box service you can say you purchase your your first subscription and you receive your first box the following month so in this way someone purchases a box from you then you can go to Aliexpress order all of the products get shipped to yourself put it in your own packaging and send it off to the customer so this cuts down on having to you know initially buy all of the products and have them stored in your house or in a warehouse or somewhere like that so it's in a way it's similar to drop shipping because you're only purchasing the products once the customer has purchased it but he actually you know customers are more willing to wait because they know that they're gonna receive a subscription box and it's on a monthly basis rather than ordering a single item which is you know similar to the way truck shipping works and having to wait two weeks for it as opposed to two to five days if they were to order it from Amazon so we're gonna add that in here and later on I'm going to show you how to add individual products for your subscription box website so I'm just gonna add in here singular items ordered can take up to two to four weeks to arrive so we'll just say that so all that's saying is when we add these singular items onto our subscription box store if someone does order them this will act in a dropshipping manner so we'll dropship singular items because we don't really want to focus on single items we want to focus on our subscription box the only reason we're gonna add single items like I said before is to you know give that psychological effect to the customer that if they were to order for single items it might cost them $100 but if they were to order the subscription box it would cost them 20 or 30 dollars so we're just gonna add that in there you guys can you know maybe change the wording so you could add something in even like this so I'm just gonna say as detail hub works with a number of manufacturers worldwide singular items take single items ordered take between two to four weeks to arrive so that's another way of wording it with returns so I'll just click Save on this returns you can simply take this from the refunds page so the refunds page we created earlier you've got the returns policy you can see it there like I said wherever you know you choose for your returns policy just paste that in here contact us so on the contact us page we're just gonna add so you might want to spend a little more time on these pages I'm just doing this I'm going over this quickly for the purpose of the tutorial so I'm just gonna say if you have any inquiries if I can spell will just say questions if you have any questions please contact us that and then add in the professional email the one we set up earlier so I'll just say contact that detail herb dot uk' we tend to take two to three business days to respond or we will respond within two to three business days something like that I'm really struggling today with this spelling so we'll just say that and then finally for your about page so your about page you just want to sump some of your company so perhaps when it was founded who it was founded by why you decided to start this subscription box so you might you know for me I could say I noticed the lack of style in mints the men's suit accessory industry so I've behind the founder Elliot Prendergast has decided to set up detail hub so we'll just look at some the other ones so I suppose a box they talked about where they were set up in New York and why so similar to what I was saying Birchbox who they were set up why so you know just add something in there that sums up your subscription box as a whole and what it's all about and that's pretty easy so I'm just gonna paste this in no paste okay we'll just control V it click Save and that's all of your pages done I think I'm actually gonna change the navigation so I'm gonna get rid of about us on the main menu because I don't really like that I just want subscription boxes and these singular items we're gonna add in later similar to spread the box so they've just got gets tired and store so I just want to have that so I'm just going to delete about us save that and I'll add it to the footer menu about us pages about us and we'll just click Save okay perfect the next thing we're gonna do is just add some text to our products so for your products you can just follow this format that's probably the best thing to do for your your product content or your product description so I'm just going to say 22 per month for let's just say build every month cancel anytime and I've just put free UK shipping that's totally up to you if you want to add that free UK shipping I think you can change the you know you can change the font in here if you want to to make it bold and things like that so we'll just save that and you can just do that to all of your products so you can add that in there so you can start finalizing things off for your store so now we've done that I'll just quickly add a finishing touch to the collection page so if we go to collections we can upload an image to our collections so that's like a banner so if we click upload image in the folder with all the images that you downloaded from venture cents icon you'll see these different banners so once again you can create these on camera I would suggest so the dimensions I have chosen are so just two thousand by five twenty that's fine so we'll just upload this and then you can add some nice images onto your banner so I've gone for a pretty plain one but you know you feel free like I say to amend the design to suit your website so we'll just click that and then click Save and now we can just have a look at some of that stuff that we've updated so if I just click customize and go to get started you'll see here that banner has been uploaded so maybe add some more images in the side here make it look a bit more exciting and if I click on this you'll see here the product description has been uploaded and if I click on are delivering returns page so that's looking pretty bare at the moment you might want to expand on it a little bit but these are the general concepts you want to get across that once they order their first subscription box or they sign up for it they'll receive it the following month so you don't have to buy all of the products upfront and if they do order a singular item it could take two to four weeks to arrive so that is the drop shipping products which I'll show you how to add in later so I'm actually gonna do now is we're gonna go back into the backend and I'm gonna show you how to add single items to your store so we're now back in the backend of Shopify and what we're gonna do next is add some individual products to our Shopify store so the advantage of doing this is that we can increase our profits by selling individual products that are directly shipped from Aliexpress so they're drop shipped from Aliexpress directly to the customer and the second advantage is what we discussed earlier whereby you can put individual products on your subscription box store at a much higher price so the customer perceives the subscription box to be a bit of value so that way they're more likely to buy your subscription box so in order to add individual products to our Shopify store we're going to have to install an app called uber low so you may have heard of this it's an app mainly for dropshipping stores and it allows you to directly import products from Aliexpress onto your Shopify store so we're going to do is we'll go to apps visit Shopify app store and in the search bar will just put Ober low so you see it'll be this first one that comes up a birla so what I want to do now is just click get this app is completely free so it won't cost you anything so we'll just click get and install app it might take a few moments to install and there you go so once it's installed it will bring us over to the Oberoi dashboard so this is where you're going to be doing most of the importing of the products from Aliexpress so if we scroll down the side here you'll see here import list so this is what we want so let's click on the import list and this is where we're going to import our products from Aliexpress into here so now if we go over to the next thing we need to install is the Oboro Chrome extension so what the Oboro Chrome extension allows you to do so you need to be using the Chrome browser for this if you click on the first link after typing Oboro chrome extension into Google and just click Add to Chrome so what this allows you to do is directly import products from aliexpress web page so just click add extension and you'll see it's here it's come up in our Chrome web browser so if I go over to Aliexpress now I can import individual products from Aliexpress so for my men's suit accessories I want to add some suit accessories to my subscription store so let's go let's start with some ties so I'll go for knitted ties and let's say I want to import this blue knitted tie here this may be one all I need to do is click on this blue or Birla logo so I just click on that you'll see product imported successfully so now if we go back over to our Oberoi dashboard in the import list and we just refresh this you'll see the product has now been imported from Aliexpress so in here I can change the name so I'm going to change this to knitted tie I can add it to a collection I haven't created a collection for my tires yet but I'll show you how to do that layer it's the same process we've used to clear our collection for our subscription box you can change the description so this is the default description used for this product from Aliexpress I'm just going to leave this the same but I would recommend that you guys change it to match your store make it a bit more personal then if we go over to variants these are all the different variants of this tie from Aliexpress so you can tick them and uncheck them as you please if you don't want them on your store in here under color this is the color that's going to show on your actual store so you don't want something like color 21 his customers might find that a bit weird so I'm gonna put this as Navy I'll put this as black I'll put this as red you can change them all I'm just gonna you know show you that as an example under price the cost so this is what it's actually going to cost you and the price this is what you're going to sell it for so you can change all of the prices at once for the different variants just by clicking change your prices setting value so what you want to do is you want to put your individual products at a really high price a lot higher than your subscription boxes to show the customer that they might buy your subscription box for $20 or they can buy one item for $25 so that way they're more likely to buy a subscription so I'm going to put so from my subscription box service it's three or four accessories in the subscription box so I'm going to put this tie valued at 25 so that way they'll see ok the subscription box is worth 22 pounds and one tie is worth 25 pounds so I'm receiving a lot more value for the box and they compare that place just basically means if the product was on sale this is where it would compare I'm just gonna put this as 25 just for now once you've done all that you can choose the images you want for these individual products so just by clicking tick or untick you know they've got a few different images from Aliexpress that you can include and once you've you're happy with everything you've done in here you know with the product you just need to click push to shop after that you'll see your import list is now empty so if we go back over to Shopify now and I click on products you'll see here this blue knitted tie has been imported from Aliexpress it's that easy it's so simple so we're gonna do now is we're going to create a collection for this so I'll create a new collection and I'll just name this ties and change the conditions so the product title is contains tie perfect save you see here this knitted tie has now been automatically added to this collection so we'll just add a few more products just to show you again so we'll go back to the import list we see it's empty this time I'm gonna add some pocket squares so I've typed in pocket squares in Aliexpress let's just say when I had this one it's now been successfully added to our import list if i refresh this we'll see this pocket square now in our import list so I'm just going to change the name quickly I'm not going to spend too much time on this guy's pocket square we've got the description the different variants I'm not going to change the prices or anything I've already shown you how to do that the different images and we're just gonna click push to shop once again and if I go back to products under Shopify I'll see this pocket square has now been added so I'll just create another collection for the pocket squares and I'll click Save I need to add the conditions as well so product I'll contains pocket square click Save and you'll see the product has now been added so what we're gonna do is we're now going to add these products to our home page so in order to do this we need to add this to our navigation so I'm going to go to online store and navigation so of course you guys can add in as many individual products you want using the Oboro app and just pushing it to the import list altering it a little bit and adding it to Shopify so you know add loads of products as many as you want just take them from form Aliexpress and then you can follow this process to add them to your navigation to add them to your homepage so under main menu I'm gonna add something I'm gonna add a new menu item so we're gonna do is add a new menu item and we're just going to call this shop store and then we're just going to link this to all of our collections so I'll just click collections or collections and click Add now we're going to save that and now what you want to do is if you want to add a drop-down menu with all of your different individual products we'll go to navigation and then we're going to add another menu so when we add the menu it needs to be the same name as this menu here so you need to remember wherever you want your drop-down menu under it has to be the same name as this menu here so we'll click add menu and the title of this menu is going to be shop store and now the menu items are going to be so the menu item I want is ties and I'm gonna go for the tithes collection so ties and click Add and we're going to add the pocket squares and we're going to go for the pocket squares collection and then click Add so this is going to be coming up on our home page now under the shop store drop down menu and these will drop down once we hover over it so if I just click Save and now we can preview this on our home page you'll see here now we have this drop down menu if I click on it we have ties and pocket squares and perfect so if I click on this and I click on ties you'll see I've got one individual item now priced at 25 pounds which we set in our import list when we were altering the product so it's that easy if I go back to pocket squares you'll see here now there's that pocket square I imported so I should have set this to something like 25 again but basically the general idea that you want to go for is I've put here guaranteed 50 pounds in value so it costs 20 pounds a month for my subscription box and there's going to be 50 pounds in value in the box so let's say I even just put at one time in one pocket square for 20 pounds a month if the customer goes oh you know what I just want to buy a tie on its own they'll go to look at our products and they'll see this is a nice tight but it's 25 pounds so I'm better off purchasing the subscription box which is only 22 pounds a month so they're saving 3 pounds a month just by actually buying the subscription box and they'll end up getting more products so I'm gonna quickly actually just change something because I've noticed some inconsistency on my website probably when we were just playing around with the customization earlier so I'm just gonna quickly change this just to make sure it's all the same everywhere so you want to advertise your products for the same price everywhere so if I'm saying that my monthly subscription box is 22 pounds a month on here it needs to be the same as what's showing down here of course so you get the general idea of what you know a way that you can market your product so it's always good to say what the value is of your box because it kind of entices customers into one to buying it more and the way to prove the value of your box is by actually having the individual items on your store so let's say I had more products on here for example this lapel pin and this collar bar I could say that they're worth 20 pounds each so I know it's a high markup for your products but you you know if you're creating a subscription box you want to push people more towards a subscription box and if somebody was to actually buy this so they can still add this to their car if they want to so if I click on this and just click Add to Cart when I actually purchase it when I check out it will still come through as you know we'll make a large profit margin so that's the other advantage of having individual products on your Shopify store so when you're on Shopify if you go back into the back end once you make a sale you just go to orders obviously right now I need to select a plan to manage my orders but in orders you can automatically just complete this order for the Aliexpress product and they'll ship it directly to the customer so you don't need to worry about buying inventory or anything like that it will come up in also over low so if I go to orders in over low I won't at the moment but the order will come here and you can just click fulfill and it automatically once you put your bank details in it will automatically purchase the item from Aliexpress and you can ship that item directly out to le Express so what we're gonna do next we're actually just going to add another finishing touch to our Shopify store so the last two things we're going to add so I go to customize and scroll down you'll see here this power bi Shopify so I don't like this I think it looks a bit tacky and you know when customers click on to your website if they scroll down and they see this they might think you know this is not a real website it's not professional so I'm going to show you how to get rid of that and we're also going to add some text into our check out area just about delivery so that just before the customer checks out they are aware that they will receive their subscription box one month after their purchase and they're aware that they could wait up to twenty to forty days if they were are to purchase an individual item because that's how long it takes to ship from Aliexpress so we're just going to add those last two things into our store just to finalize everything so I'll go back into the backend and we can do that from here so in order to delete the powered by Shopify link that's showing in the footer of our subscription box store you need to go to themes and click on actions and scroll down the drop-down list to edit code so click on edit code then you'll see all of these dot liquid files so this is where all the code for your website is kept so if you keep scrolling you'll see this sections code so click on this sections code and keep scrolling until you see foot or liquid so this is where the power buy Shopify link is actually kept within the footer so we'll click on this and we need to do next is click control F or command F if you're on a Mac and type in powered underscore by underscore link and then what you're gonna need to do is the first one that comes up just delete this you got to make sure you delete these two curly brackets as well that are around it so delete these and there should be one more so there's two within the theme so if you just click this down arrow it will find the next one within the text so if I click on this you'll see there's one more so if I just delete this as well with the brackets that are around it so make sure there delete as well and then we can just click preview if I scroll to the bottom now it hasn't delete let me try and save it sometimes the preview doesn't work if I click Save and now I click preview you will see it's now been removed so that's perfect so like I said was saying earlier I think it's good to remove that power by Shopify link I just think it makes the store a bit more clean and customers are very fickle if they've gone to your store and they're having a look around and they see power bi Shopify sometimes they can be a bit skeptical and think oh you know this is a small business they're running on Shopify and things like that even though Shopify is a massive reputable company you know the way the customers mind works is that you know it could be a scam or something like that so perfect it's that easy so you just click Save and now we can go back to themes one quick thing I'm actually going to add that I've noticed just as we previewed our store I'm going to add individual products just on our homepage as well for customers to look at so I'll just click on customize and we'll add a section and we're going to add a collection list so I'll just add this and now we have our three collections so if I just click on clear action select collection or at the pocket squares individual items we added earlier you can see this matting way that's been imported from Aliexpress so when you're in adding products adding images to your products just make sure that you maybe alter them a little bit white things out so you can do that on canva like I showed you or Photoshop or even on PowerPoint so just white things out because they just look a bit unprofessional but I'm going to leave this for now we'll just add ties collection and I don't actually have another collection you can add like I said earlier as many individual products and collections as you want just to add the middle one you can delete this if you want and just click remove content but it looks a bit weird with this one here so I'm just going to add the you subscription boxes collection and again just click Save so now if we have a look at our website if the customer Scrolls they can see all these subscription boxes how it works and then if they scroll down they can see the individual items I'm just going to change that collection list as well and just call that store actually you can delete this let me just remove this and I can change this to two there we go then just save this so now if we preview this it's quite large with two so that's not that's why don't we like it too much but it's okay and that's it so we're just going to add the text into our checkouts just to specify the delivery times for individual items and the subscription box and there we have it our subscription box store on Shopify is completely set up so in order to specify the delivery times in our checkout we need to go to settings check out then click on manage checkout language and then keep scrolling until you see checkout shipping so yeah keep scrolling until you see checkout shipping and then under this shipping method notice you can add in some text so I'm gonna add in let's say subscription boxes will arrive the months following your purchase all other items ordered will will arrive in 10 to 40 days so that's talking about the individual products and this one here is obviously specifying these subscription boxes so this way once someone orders the subscription box from your subscription box store you can then order the products from Aliexpress get them ordered to your address put them in a box and then send them off and you one month is more than enough time to complete that process so that gives you a monthly way to get everything everything sent out without having to purchase all of the products up front for your subscription box so then you can just click Save at the top here yep click Save and that's it so that way your you know you're being transparent with your customers you're telling them even before they check out this is gonna arrive one month after you've added it into your delivery page as well so if they send a complaint saying hi it's been weeks and I still haven't received my first subscription box you can say check check our delivery page and we specify this in our checkout but generally they won't send a complaint if they already know that this is the process so that's perfect and I know guides I said after we've done this this would be the final thing to sell buy a whole subscription box store but I actually want to quickly show you one last thing as well I want to show you how to add discounts to your store just to entice customers to buy maybe a first box so on the side here you'll see discounts so if we click on this under here we can add discount codes on certain products so that will allow you know 20% off your first box or things like that so let me just show you how to set this up so all we need to do is click on create discount and it will bring us to this page so the first thing we need to do is specify a name so this is the name that the customer is going to enter in when they're checking out to receive their discount so let's just say it's Black Friday we're gonna add Black Friday in here and then you want to specify the percentage discount that this discount code will give to the customer so we'll just call this 15% let's say does the discount require a minimum purchase so you know if you spend a hundred pounds you'll receive this 15% off so we didn't say no for this oh actually no we're gonna uncheck that and just leave it so that means no and then if it applies to the entire order so if they order a bunch of products a specific collection or a specific product so for me I just want this to apply to the subscription box so I'm gonna do this as 15% off your first subscription box so we click on specific products and we type in monthly this monthly subscription box auto-renew so we don't want to add 15% off for the three month subscription or the 12-month subscription because they're already discounted but you can add it off of your monthly subscription box so off of the first box so if we click on that and click Add this can be eligible to everyone or you can specify it to certain customers and then you want to limit it to one per customer so if we just click on that so that just means they can only use it once on their first box and all this means is when is it active so if you're saying just only for Black Friday you'll just set an end date for that day or you know it could be for the Christmas holidays so you've say it for a month so I'm going to specify the end date to be let's just say until Valentine's Day so February 14th and click Save discount and there you go Black Friday was created so what you can do now you've created your discount you can actually add this to your home page on your subscription box store so this discount will only be applied to their first subscription box so if you're charging $20 and you're offering 10% off you'll get $2 off their first subscription box and after that you'll be charged $20 every month so if I just copy this and now go back to our home page and we customize our home page we can add this into a header here as an announcement so go to header and we click show announcement this one here I'm going to change this to black because it's oops my Shopify store here and we can actually add the discount code in it in here so if we type in use code Black Friday to receive 50% off of your first subscription and we can save that and there you have it we have a discount code and this is a good way to entice our customers so as soon as they come onto our home page they'll see this they'll see how much our subscription box is and they can actually use that and it will only remove that 50% off of their first box so don't worry about it charging them less every month that's the way that we've set up that discount code obviously you can set up however you know best suits your store that still helps you to make profit but I think that's a really good way to entice customers and I didn't want to miss that part out of this tutorial I think it's really important although it's part of promoting the store it's really important when you're creating your store just to have that up and running straight away so that is it guys we've created our whole subscription box store from scratch you know you we've gone through things like creating a logo anning full width image quitting our homepage clean all of the pages the products and things like that if you do have any trouble in creating your store please just leave something in the comments about you know the problem you're having and I will try my best to get back to all of you and you know try and give you a solution to whatever you're having but I really hope you've enjoyed this part of the tutorial I hope I haven't missed anything out there's so much stuff that can be done with Shopify so obviously I couldn't get around to covering it all but this is the the main kind of basics that you need to set up a subscription box store so what we're gonna do now is we're going to move on to how to create packaging for your subscription box so that's the next part of this tutorial how to create nice-looking packaging for you know a really kind of cheap price so you don't spend a lot of money from your budget on packaging so your whole subscription box should be your store should be set up now and you're pretty much ready to go and start accepting orders so the next step once you do receive an order is how you want to send those products out and obviously the essential part of that is to create the packaging so I'll see you guys on the other we will look at how to create the packaging for our subscription boxes so this is the custom packaging I've created for my detail hub subscription box service I've chosen to keep it pretty simple so I've gone for some brown corrugated boxes I've purchased a rubber ink stamp with my logo just to cut costs so I can use that rubber ink stamp to print my logo on my packaging so you can see on the left-hand side that's why I've done and I've also bought some round stickers with my logo on and some social media icons just to promote the branding a bit more and to promote those social media accounts for my subscription box service it's really quite cheap to create this type of packaging it's a lot cheaper than if you were to purchase custom printed packaging because with custom printed packaging you have to pay for setup charges and it's around 50 dollars for a sample box so it's actually quite expensive I've looked all over the internet for cheap custom printed packaging and I really can't find any so I've found that this is the best solution when you're first starting your subscription box service just to buy some normal boxes you can buy different colored boxes if you're in a different niche so green or pink or whatever suits your niche and you can simply stamp your logo onto it and add some stickers with your logo so let me just go through a few things that you're gonna need to create your own custom printed packaging to start off with the obviously going to need some boxes so I'll show you some websites where I've ordered boxes in the past and for really cheap inking you can get them shipped internationally then you're going to need a rubber ink stamp so that you're able to print your logo onto your boxes so I'll show you a website where you can design your own rubber ink stamp for printing your logo onto your boxes after that you're gonna need some stickers to add to your boxes so I'll show you my favourite website for ordering bulk amounts of cheap stickers and where you can design your own stickers and then you're going to need some business cards so the business cards are needed to add your products on inside the boxes so I'll show you a website that I use to design my own business cards without really cheap and you can order them in bulk so let me just show you where you can get all of the stuff you need to create your own custom packaging so the first thing we need are some boxes so the best place that I get my boxes from I've found is post pack so if I just go to this website post pack there are a uk-based company but they do ship internationally and they're really cheap so this is where I purchased the brown cardboard boxes I use for my subscription boxes the size I use is 250 by 150 by 60 millimetres but you can order a few different sizes and test them out and see what size is best for your products and things like that they're really cheap so on here they're showing this 89 Pieper box it depends on what size you get but generally they're not going to cost you more than one pound or one dollar per box so you can order different sizes for you know testing products and stuff like that so this is definitely the best website I've found I've ordered from other websites I think dev pack so these are also a UK based but they ship internationally as well so you could have a look on here and see if you can find some boxes that suit you but the cheapest and with the most variety is definitely this post pack and like I said they ship internationally their shipping is relatively cheap so if you are based in the US you can still order from post pack and get some pretty cheap packaging they also do different color boxes so let's say you had the makeup subscription box you can order a pink corrugated box and these are also relatively cheap so I think if I just add one of these to the car they're around $1 each yes so it's added another 89 pion so they're in England in the UK they're 89 P which is around $1 in the US so that's the first thing we need next after that you can get some custom business cards and stickers for your subscription box if so if we go to mu mu calm this is a they're based in the US and the UK I think Australia as well so if you go on here let me just go to the Paige and you'll see loads of different products at the bottom here or you can just search by products down here so they've got 25% off at the moment so if we this is a really simple website to design things that you can add on your packaging so let's just say we wanted some stickers I can go on here let's say I wanted some round stickers I can click on this and you simply just click start making so you click on that this one here in the middle is to upload your logo so if I just click on that let's say I want to upload my logo to this sticker so to start your design got blurred your design the logo we created earlier and that's how your sticker would look so it's perfect and they would print these and they would come exactly like that this is really cheap as well so I think it's around 15 dollars for 52 stickers or if you in the UK around 11 pounds for 52 stickers so it's really cheap so that's 52 boxes you don't really need to worry about having a mass amount of stickers so this is quite cheap for them and obviously the more you order the cheaper they become you can also order let me just go back to the home page you can order the business cards on here so if I just go to business cards it's the same process so you can just click start making and upload your design to your business cards so if I just upload my design you can see there's business cards like that so later on when I show you how to put your products inside your box how to lay them out I'll show you what we can use the business cards for but actually quite important so and these are relatively cheap as well so if I just go back business cards for 10 pounds for 50 cards so that's around twelve dollars if you're in the US so now we've got our boxes our business cards and our stickers the last thing you need is a rubber stamp so a rubber ink stamp so that you can stamp your logo on your boxes so if you just go to this website rubber stamps dotnet you can see I've already started to create one but let me just go the homepage if you just click on stamp scroll down and you can choose a size of your stamp so just measure them out so I'll just pick this one here let's say you click customize your order and you can upload your design from here so just choose your file let me go to my logo again what's that's loading it's just taking a little while and there you go so this is the actual start size of your stamp preview so this one's a pretty small stamp you aren't going to get one that's a little bit bigger it probably cost you around $30.00 for a fairly decent size stamp that you can pour into your boxes which isn't a massive investment to start creating your own custom packaging if you want to like I mentioned earlier get your own custom packaging printed it's going to cost you a lot more than fifty dollars it will cost you around even for just a sample one sample around $180 or something like that because you need to pay for the sell charges like I mentioned so that's it really guys you know you don't really need to get anything extra than this you can if you're in a more kind of creative industry you can add ribbons and bows and tape to your packaging but generally these are all you need so some boxes from Post pack some business cards and stickers from MU and a rubber stamp from you what I recommend rubber stamp store net but there's loads of rubber stamps websites online that you can order from so now we've done that I'm going to just show you how I lay out my products inside my packaging so I'll just open up one of the boxes for my subscription box service and show you how to lay out your products nicely so when your customer receives their subscription box they actually receive the products that look quite laid up and presented nicely to them so this is how I present my boxes from the inside so not only do you want your boxes to look nice from the outside when the customer receives them you also want them to be excited when they open the box so if you just throw your all of your products in the box and send it out when the customer opens it they're all jumbled up everywhere it's gonna make them less likely to want to pay for your subscription box service again because it's going to come across as poor quality so as you can see I've just lined the box with black tissue paper to start off with and then I've used those business cards with my logo printed on to just slide my accessories in so with this box I've gone for a kind of autumn theme so the brown tie the Brown lapel pin the brown cufflinks and a tie clip and then I've also just wrapped some Brown partial paper around the tie and stuck another one of my stickers with my logo on again so this just promotes the detail hub brand the brand of my subscription box so when the customer receives it they definitely know okay this is from DITA hub so I think this is a really nice way to lay out your boxes another thing that I've done here is added some double-sided sticky tape to all of the accessories just so I am stuck down so that when they are in transit so when they're in them in the post or in the mail they don't move around too much so it's good to actually make sure all of your products are stuck down if you just put them in like that once they get posted out they'll move everywhere and when the customer receives them obviously like I said earlier they're going to be jumbled up everywhere and it's just going to lower that excitement level for your customer which means they're less likely to come back and purchase your subscription box again so I'm just going to show you one more box from the inside just to give you some more inspiration about how you can lay out your products inside your subscription boxes so for this subscription box I've gone for kind of anchor theme so an anchor tie clip an anchor pair of cuff links and anchor tie and an anchor pocket square once again I've just used the business cards to slot my accessories inside and I've stuck them down with double-sided sticky tape onto the black tissue paper I've also wrapped Brown pass with paper around the tie and the pocket square and added one of those circle stickers with my logo on so I'm just you know I hope this has given you some good inspiration about how you can create your packaging without eating a massive chunk out of your budget and also you know the stressing the importance of presenting these subscription boxes you know in a way to your customer that makes them excited so that is it guys we've come to the end of the
