[Music] [Music] I'm Andrew Marston and welcome to LDI limited philadelphia this is a 1965 Jaguar e-type and if you've been following along on instagram over the years at LBI limited you know that we have somewhat of an affinity for these cars with nearly a hundred sold in the past 10 years we've gotten to know them really well and what makes a really good one a great one is in the details and this car is a prime example of everything you want to see the story of this car starts in 1965 when it was bought new by a local gentleman from New Jersey the car was used very little from about 1965 to 1977 only 25,000 miles were accrued in 1977 the plates were taken off returned to New Jersey and the car was put in a garage not to be seen again until 2018 when the car finally came out become a service stop and brought to us to be sold again to the public now it's kind of a shame that a car got put away that long and you know it would be nice if it would have been out driving and people could see it and the car could be enjoyed but by languishing that long it covered up safely indoors it also preserved the car to an extent that we have not seen but only one or two other times so far in our career this car is exemplary of everything you want to look for in a Jaguar e-type all the little things that make up a condition that is so seldom seen we're gonna go over that I'm gonna show you all the little things that you didn't even think of or maybe you didn't even know existed but this car has all of them let's start at the front I think that's probably the best place to start on any car the first thing you're gonna notice is imperfections but don't take that at face value that's what makes a car real you know that the miles are real if it has the blemishes to match people use these cars back in the day things are gonna happen there's gonna be dents there's gonna be chips we take a closer look you'll notice things such as the correct slotted screws triplex headlight covers and inside Lucas headlamps which is what this car was delivered with when new the shrunken rubber the old plastic the consistent nature to all the finishes and the surfaces on this car give it away as being real never touched never hid never apart never replaced that's a really big deal the other thing you want to look for is how the story lines up it's a really big part of it someone's telling you one thing the car shape match done some regard we know for sure that this thing was put away in 1977 we even have the New Jersey slip that says the plates were turned in and if you look we have a 1977 inspection sticker and it's nice and clean and it looks looks like it's been there a really long time so buy this sticker we know for sure this car was sitting a good 40 plus years as we move back taking a look at the top if you think about it top technology back then was not that good tops went back pretty quick if the car is being used especially in inclement weather it didn't stand a chance over the course of time take a real close look at this one by the book this is exactly what came on these cars when do the fitment the way that it is stitched everything about it is exactly the way it's supposed to be moving to the rear of the top is where it really gives the whole thing away and that's right here take a real close look there's some verbiage about tested and approved it's talking about how you should clean it care for it I mean that's just a prime example of something you're not gonna find today in a modern top or a replacement top at any point between 1965 and now what makes it real the condition of the rear window it's a little worn a little faded it's dirty but again it goes with the rest of the top it lines up with the rest of the car the mileage everything about it it's really important that there's a level of consistency throughout the whole car that's what makes it joke there's a couple other things I want to show you one other thing that I want to point out you might actually already even know this if you know Jaguars is that there's a body number on the back and that body number believe it or not can be found throughout the rest of the car if it's an unrestored car it'll be in grease pencil and quite a few areas so the number here is ends in 1 3 3 1 so take a look for that on the website if you're studying the photos you'll see that in a lot of places it's really cool the other thing is this guy was clearly an enthusiast I mean he's got an old badge back here from Jaguar clubs of North America Inc which means he probably really took care of the car because he was enthusiastic about it something you want to see it's a hallmark of an owner who really loved this car and that's why it looks like this today there's plenty of stuff to cover on the outside it could spend hours on it probably but let's take a look at the inside there's a couple of cool things I'm here to take a look at as you take a close look at the interior there's gonna be a handful of things that you notice first if you look at the inside of the door you'll notice it's exceptionally clean that the edge is really thin and there's nothing bulbous or rounded about it that's indicative of metal primer paint whereas in a restored car you often see a little bit of rounding by nature of the restoration process things become thick and they become rounded so this is I can tell of car has never really been touched if there was paint work back in period they would have been a little sloppy again these were just used cars so if you really think about it no one was gonna take the time to duplicate the way it would have been at the factory the oil change stickers the emergency 24-hour roadside assistance sticker all of this stuff just shows that this car has been exactly the way you see it right here right now its entire life let's take a closer look specifically at the door jamb if you look real close there's a glue there's a glue that holds on all the rubber components all over the interior of the car even the top and that glue is sort of like a tannish yellow color and it can actually be found in lots of other different cars from this era but we all notice is they used it they used a lot of it when they use it so it kind of got everywhere and it's in a way sloppy but because it's sloppy it means that you know it it's the way it left the factory when you're trying to get hundreds of cars finished and out the door you're not exactly worried about making sure the glue looks a certain way like that on a restored car so as a result when you look in the door jamb of an e-type or even a Porsche 911 for that matter you'll see this a lot of the times you'll see this brushstrokes with this yellow glue just kind of everywhere as needed looking on the other side of the jamb there's spot weld starting from the top going all the way down to the bottom and a lot of times in a restoration you'll lose that or if there was an accident or any type of body work being done to this area of the car that would get rid of the spot welds and making it look smooth because that would be more attractive looking for the M product but the reality is when they came from the factory they had very raw looking spot Wilson throughout the interior of the sea type is something you just have to see in person it's a sensory overload of smells and textures and the way the things feel and look are indicative of the mileage of this car which is twenty five thousand two hundred and eighty miles from new and you know these seats have just a perfect wrinkle to them they match the mileage they have the smell that you can't duplicate in a restoration and and the leather has a certain Sheen to it that you know today when you restore a car and you order Connolly hides and you put them in they're very matte and grainy but these look genuine and old and it just adds to the overall feel of the car it's it's a unique experience this car was built in November of 1964 as a 1965 model and if you take a very close look at the seat belt you can see that says right here it's a Jaguar seatbelt 1964 dated this is the original equipment that belongs in this car the evenly dispersed patina is something that you can't fake in a car that's had an interior replacement at one point or another in its life it could get to this level again but it would take quite a long time and just the right type of care to turn it into this almost used baseball glove experience that it is it's absolutely incredible like I said you just have to see it in person every part of this car has something interesting about it so let's move over the passenger side something you don't see often is this it's actually a false toe board and it goes at the very end of the foot well in the passengers side to sort of give you a little bit of support for your feet if you're not that tall and these always go miss him I've only ever seen these on a handful of cars and you know as a loose item if they need to do any work to the interior here this is so easy to get lost and so they did so to find a car that actually has it it's kind of a rare thing digging deeper if we lift up the correct cup pile carpet you can see that there's some sound deadener and then under that sound deadening are the floors and on top of the floors is actually another piece of very thin sound deadening in body color and again if you look closely you can see that yellowed glue that they love to use so much so all totally original just sip left the factory taking a look at the - check out this key fob it's wonderful nice and old patina a little bit of green on it made in England it's been with the car a long long time correct well punk radio the shift boot a little torn and worn out but you know its original so we're gonna keep it there's so many great things in this car it just never seems to end one other really small but interesting thing and I've actually never seen this before take a look right here behind the passenger's seat right where the anchor point would be for the seatbelt is actually a little LED tag around some safety wire you can barely see it but it actually I believe says Jaguar on it it's to let you know that Jaguar installed these seatbelts and I'm not sure that I'll ever see that again I'm sure it's the very first thing to go missing if back in the day someone said you don't need seatbelts what the heck this thing of seatbelts for was often the mentality so another unique and very hard-to-find feature it might seem a little ridiculous to point stuff like that out but let's take it one step further if you look real closely on these defrost vents you'll notice that all the screws are timed meaning they're all in a perfect grow so it's they've never been apart because who's gonna line them all back up again if the car was apart very unlikely this is another minor example of how we can tell the car has really never been touched looking further you can see right here try pucks laminated remnants of the original sticker that's still on the windscreen today really great stuff out of everything this car has there's one thing that really sets it apart and that's documentation there's literally everything in here that you would have gotten on day one from the owner's manual to the original window sticker the original order new car prep check sheet even some period maps of what clearly looks like a trip from Pennsylvania to Michigan and back and it just adds to the completeness of the story what the car is matches the documentation both on all the numbers the people have owned it the places it's been it's all right here all on paper another extraordinary element to why this car is so complete you almost never see this much documentation you might see one or two elements most often an owner's manual but never a window sticker and the fool order form the warranty in the warranty booklet everything it's really incredible there might actually be one more thing in here that's even more interesting so let's remove the trunk mat pack all this up and I'll show you taking a look at the spares really interesting because obviously the wheels are chrome but if you look at this one it almost has a gold finish to it a sort of coppery Sheen I think it's because of the vapors in here the gas vapors have slowly turned the metal color slightly goldish and the reason it's been turned slightly Gaulish is because this wheel has never ever been out of this car this is the original dunlop road speed whitewall tire as specified on the heritage certificate absolutely incredible and you can kind of see the gold color from oxidizing over the years with the gas vapors brand-new tread brand-new tire probably still has original air in it and let's have a look at the engine bay taking a close look at the engine bay shows us a lot of really interesting things first and foremost take a look at this it's almost sharp the bonnet is so thin and untouched that it actually has a certain sharpness to it whereas a restored car much like I pointed out on the door could have a slight roundedness to it do the layering of materials in order to finish refinish the car so the entire bonnet has a perfect shape unblemished untouched never taken apart and it's real obvious by inspection digging deeper you'll see on the firewall here that number again one three three one the body number two the car there on the firewall it is in grease pencil untouched since 1964 when it was built absolutely incredible that means it was never pressure washed or excessively clean it was never taken apart it didn't get scrubbed off it wasn't painted nothing ever happened to it and it remains there from day one absolutely incredible a second to that is the Lucas washer bottle which still has the sticker you notice that the windshield wiper motor is date coded for 1964 as well the air box the carburetors the metal the finishes at the surfaces everything in here is relatively untouched though blemished and a little worn and have some surface rust in areas it remains completely untouched and it's that combination of things being correct and original but slightly aged and blemished that lead you to really believe in this car's mileage taking a closer look you can see things like the radiator still has the sticker on it there's still warning labels in place from the factory you can see how everything is just a little a little crusty and an old the clamps although recently replaced are the correct style and the originals are still with the car it's a really nice thing taking a close look at the head on this car actually yields some information that you you wouldn't expect this color that you see in here is called old gold metallic and if you take a look at the digits that are on the head the engine number you'll notice that in the middle of those digits the gold is not there and that's because of the factor they're produced the head they would spray it this color and then they would stamp the numbers when they were fitting it to a car as a result we know that that numbers never been tampered with or changed and it probably means that the head never came off because if they took the head off or a valve job or any other reason and they decided to paint it they were probably paint right over that and not pay attention to such a minut item so we can feel confident that that is the original numbers-matching head and that this head isn't a ribbon off this car one other thing I definitely want to take a closer look at is this spot welds I know I mentioned it before but this is actually the number one place you want to look for it there rockers on these cards tend to get really rusty over the course of time so to see original spot welds and to know that this is original paint well you can feel everything the way it's supposed to be even an even spot well it's going down the rocker you know that this thing has never been touched it's a really big deal the other thing is this and I've actually never seen this before but there's a little fabric tag on the battery positive cable that says Jaguar the cars of the Madonna really cool never seen it before this is the kind of car where you learn so much as you go over it and it's just incredible I hope you're able to learn a little bit today about what defines a genuine and original Jaguar e-type it's one of the best I've ever seen and the next time you get in front of one take a closer look look at all those little things that make these so interesting and fun it's all that little stuff that is the essence of a real car for more genuine and real original paint interior cars just like this follow along at LBI limited on instagram check out the website or give us a call there's more out there just like this and we're probably going to find them you
