having slow download speeds on Steam well let me show you some potential fixes to increase your speed first things first I'd recommend going to your browser and doing an internet speed test to see what your internet speed currently is a quick tip for those who didn't know ethernet cables provide much quicker internet speeds rather than Wi-Fi so if you have the option for ethernet I would switch to that next let's go ahead and open up steam and in the top left click on Steam go to settings and then make sure you're on the downloads tab from here at the top you'll see download region when you open this up you'll see a list of all steam's current servers and you're going to want to make sure the one you have selected is the one closest to your location now moving down the list allowed downloads during gameplay you can leave this checked throttle downloads while streaming you'll want to make sure this is unchecked display download rates and bits per second you can just leave that checked if you want and if you have limit bandwidth you're going to want to make sure this is unchecked as it'll limit your download speeds one other thing you can do in this section which is kind of cool if you want your games to auto update during a certain time like say in the middle of the night when no one's on your internet you can go ahead and check this and select the times you want your games to auto update now if you've done all this and your speed still is slow you can also try cleaning your download cache as this might resolve the slow download speed issue keep in mind when you clear the download it will sign you out of steam and you're going to need to sign in again another thing you can do on Steam to potentially increase your download speed a little bit is click on friends and chat in the bottom right and go to the top and hit this drop down arrow and select offline now I want to show you guys a few things you can do on your PC that may also be contributing in your slow download speeds go to the search bar and look up settings go to network and internet now where it displays your internet you're going to want to go to properties scroll down to meters connections and just make sure this is turned off now navigate back to here and go to data usage here you'll be able to see all the applications and how much data they're currently using now what I recommend doing here is if there's applications you barely use or don't want that are taking up a lot of data uninstall them as this could free up a lot of bandwidth one other thing we can do is go to the search bar and look up background apps and here you'll see all the applications that are currently running in the background what I recommend doing is just unchecking any that you don't want running in the background as they may be using up internet which could result in slower download speeds check out one of these two videos if you want to keep watching
