hey so what is going on everyone it is me mr. Mario and today I'm gonna be showing you all how you can essentially softmod your original PlayStation yes you heard that correctly you can softmod the system now normally when people think of modding these systems they think of installing a modchip which will require you to solder a chip internally or using a swap method with either a boot disk or an original disk and tricking the system into thinking that the drive lid is closed well this is actually a third method but there are going to be a few things you need in addition to stuff I'll show you here so what I recommend doing is watch this tutorial one way through make sure you have everything and then when you follow along watch it again now first off the basic things you're going to need are your original PlayStation and you need to make sure that it is an original and it is a console that has the parallel i/o port in the back if you have a later revision of the original PlayStation that does not have a parallel port you cannot perform this modification also if you have a ps1 or a PlayStation slim you cannot perform this modification either because that did not have the port to begin with now in addition to having an exploitable PlayStation you're gonna need a few more things you're also going to need an original PlayStation game if you don't have a boot disk a blank CD because we're going to burn something to that some tape which I would recommend that just go and be cheap enough and also you're going to need a type of cartridge that will go in the back of there parallel ports these are normally game sharks or anything like that and this will work with almost any type of cartridge you can put into the back so if you buy like an old game shark or anything like that it will work now before we get into the actual install I want to give two shoutouts right here first off this guy executioner this guy has been fantastic we've been talking back and forth he actually introduced me to this exploit that I'm about to show you he helped me troubleshoot it quite a bit and now I'm able to teach you all because this guy essentially taught me so I told him I would give him a shout-out on here as a thank you and his information will be down below in the description the second person I want a shout-out is actually my manager who was awesome enough to let me borrow his original PlayStation and knowing full well what I was doing to it his PlayStation was not modified but he was using a Goldfinger cartridge in the back of it while as I had two Playstations that I could have used but they did have more chips in them and I did not want to do disable the mod chips so this worked out pretty well that way I could show you assuming that you also have an unmodified PlayStation so right here you want to go down below to the description of this video and check out the PS dev net form now we're going to be using you neuron right here and the latest version that is available right now is Yoona ROM version 0.4 for what you need to do is you need to go down here and you need to download this rar file once you have that rar file go ahead and extract it over to your desktop or wherever you've downloaded it and then open it up you're going to go into PSX and then you're going to find this BenQ right here and this is your image file you're going to want to just double-click the Q file if you are using image burn like myself then you want to put in a CDR and burn this at the slowest speed you can once you've completed burning that you can go ahead and move over to the PlayStation because that's where the rest of our footwork is going to be now first off what you need to do is when you get over to your places you need to go ahead and with the power off pop it open and then you need to take some scotch tape and what I do right here is go into the back right corner where there's going to be a button and just make sure you jam it down the way you can test that you did this correctly is once it's done being jammed down go ahead keep the lid open turn on the console with a disc inside of it and if the disc spins up like so that means that the button is being held down and you're now tricking your PlayStation into thinking that it is closed so right here you're going to have to swap out your game for the burn disc that you've just made and I'm going to show you if you don't have a boot disc how to do this I'm gonna slow it down and then I'm gonna show it all at once right here first off what you want to do is put an original game in your system and turn it on you're gonna wait for it to spin up to normal speed and then speed up after it speeds up its going to slow down and you're gonna hear the laser move when that happens immediately swap for the burn disc after you swap it for the burn disk you're going to wait for the burn des to speed up and then when it slows down again you're going to swap that for the original now this time when you swap for the original what should happen is the PlayStation logo should disappear and you're going to hear it slowed down once again when it slows down swap the original for the burn disk one more time now what I'm going to do is I'm going to play that video back in its entirety without talking so you all will see and hear what I am talking about and what to look for now there's a few things to keep in mind if you're using the game shark or cheat device for actual cheats you're going to lose all the stuff on there because we are going to rewrite it now if you are okay with that you can go ahead and continue with this but I would recommend at this point just buy a second one if you want to still keep that functionality we're also going to flash a ROM here which I'll show you which one I use but since I have a 128 kilobytes um of the other roms so there's no way you can flash a ROM that's too big or the incorrect ROM on here now what you want to do at this screen press the r2 button or plug in your cartridge and then press r2 to detect it and once it's detected press the start button to go to the ROM selection menu when you're at the ROM selection menu you want to go to you norm and you might be kind of confused on which ones to flash I'm gonna show you if you try and flash for example in my case if you try and flash number 11 right here it's not going to work because my cartridge is too small for this if that's what happens to you that's fine and you can try and flash that one if you want to but in my case I'm gonna flash the Euler a'm stand-alone once that is flashed over it'll go ahead update the EEPROM and from there you can go ahead and press starts to exit the menu and turn off your PlayStation now if you have your cartridge plugged into the back of your system turn it on make sure the game you want to play is inside the drive and then you're gonna see this screen you want to press r1 and then press r2 and when you do that you're going to see this loading screen right here and after a few seconds it should cut to black and it will load up your game if it does congratulations you now have your softmod working on that removable cartridge the best thing is as well - this is removable so essentially you have a portable or removable mod chip on your hands as well if you ever want to swap it out or flash another cartridge or anything like that now I think this is pretty impressive I think this is a nice feature especially if you don't want to swap disks all the time but you also don't want to install a mod chip so you have this nice little median in the middle of everything anyways that is it - this mod so I hope this video helped you out and you now have a soft modded ps1 anyways if you enjoyed this video and it helped you out there is a like button down below that you can check out on this video and if you did not like this video or anything about it there's also another button for that right next to the like button anyways this mr. Mario signing off thank you all for watching
