How to shut down your sprinkler system before a Sprinkler Blowout

[Music] So today we're going to talk about blowing out your sprinkler systems uh the first step is to shut off the water to your your sprinkler system uh to do that find uh your utility room or where the the water comes into your house uh you'll see the the water meter and after the water meter you'll have a series of pipes and uh the pipe will tea off go outside of your house to your sprinkler system and after that te is where you'll find a main shut off to your sprinkler system so find that valve and close her up perfect the next step is finding your timer control panel and uh turning it to the off position this one right here it's currently in the Run position we'll just switch it to off and now we're ready to go outside the next thing you want to do is come on outside and go to your TAP where it comes out of your house open up the tap and ensure that your shut off valve is [Music] working this one appears to be dripping and it may drip for a couple minutes that does not mean that your shut off valve is not working uh but we do want to make sure that the water is completely stopped so go do something else for a couple minutes come back and ensure that there is no more dripping so we've come back after a few minutes and uh the dripping is stopped so it appears that our shut off valve in the basement is working I just want to point out to you here this pipe this pipe will still be full of water and if you suspect that it's getting below freezing then we need to drain the water out of this pipe come over to the sprinkler box and I'll show you how to do that here we're at the sprinkler box this particular box has three different zones in it and you want to open up the zones and to do that manually there's either bleeder valves like this little guy right here just turn it a couple times or else there's solenoids and the solenoids we just have to turn maybe a half turn or a full turn and you'll see the water start gurgling and the water out of that pipe over there will get below the ground so if you happen to have any taps or hose bibs that are hidden or you know maybe in a garden at the end of a drip line please ensure that those are opened up as well so that nothing is missed and your lines are blown out if you happen to have any sprinkler boxes that are hidden they're not out in the open maybe they're covered by a bush or some rocks uh please just let us know where they are as well so we can easily find them shut off the water to your sprinkler system find and turn off the timer control panel open your outside Taps to ensure shut off valve is working if you suspect freezing before your sprinkler blowout appointment open up the sprinkler zones to drain above ground ground water if you have any Taps away from your house or a valve at the end of a drip line open them up to ensure that they are not missed during the blowout expose hidden sprinkler boxes so we can find [Music] [Music] them [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
