How To Turn On An Irrigation System

to turn on your irrigation system always start with going out to the vacuum breaker or back float of ice you'll see two items in most cases two items petcock sticking out of the side grab a regular screwdriver and turn them so it would be perpendicular to which the water would flow out next go to the bottom or the entrance side of the back flow and turn that ball valve to the off position or perpendicular to which the water would flow out next we'll go down and actually turn on the water to the back flow bringing the water up to the bottom side turning it off where we just shut off the valve the next step in turning on your irrigation system is to turn on the water supply in the basement first we'll close the drain associated with the irrigation system after that is closed we'll slowly turn on the water supply to the irrigation system supplying water to the valve on the outside that we just closed the next step step in turning on your irrigation system is to close the exit side of the vacuum breaker and slowly turn on the water through the entrance side of the vacuum breaker make sure that both petcocks on the side of the vacum breaker are closed now slowly turn on the water in the entrance side to seat the vacuum breaker now what that'll do is supply water to to the vacuum breaker now what we'll do is slowly turn on the AIT side of the vacuum breaker supplying water to the irrigation system now the water is turned onto the irrigation system and we'll go to the controller and start running through the zones the next step in turning on your irrigation system is to go to the irrigation controller and turn it on now generally what we like to do is run through all the zones for 2 minutes to ensure all the heads are working properly so we'll go from off to manual watering water all the zones for 2 minutes and start the final step in turning on your irrigation system is to let every head come on and double check its adjustment it may take a minute for the heads to come on as there'll be some air in the lines
