hey guys welcome back to another video so we're here with Rob from former whoo and we're going over the application of a of a former hoop so if you're not familiar with what former hoof is uh one thing okay so I've got a couple of examples of former hoop that we did on a on a sort of hoof model and and what it is it's a polyurethane sort of skin that goes over the hoof and it sort of encases the entire hoof capsule basically it sort of rebuilds the hoof structures and allows you to either you know remain barefoot or go down the lines of actually putting a shoe on there as well but so these are a type of endurance model or you know a horse is doing a fair bit of work on a sort of softer softer surface and needs that little bit of extra traction so we've got these sort of studs on the bottom we've also got another example here of how you can actually apply a shoe to it in order to preserve the former hooves sort of mold and also give you that little bit of more protection on the bottom of the foot so what we're gonna do today we're just going to go over the application process of it and we're gonna trial it on an endurance horse you might have seen a couple of my posts on Instagram where we've trialed it on a couple of broodmares in order to just sort of help them you know broodmares typically have sort of poor quality horn and especially towards the end of their pregnancy when they're carrying a little bit more weight to go a little bit more pop song especially on sort of stony gravelly ground so two reviews former hoof in that context now we're gonna try it on an endurance horse so what we're gonna do we've gone half the horse here today we're gonna do the other half now we're gonna show you the process of it and then we'll take around we'll see how she gets on with them so let's get to it [Music] for word on that yeah we can roll in back to would you as much as you want yeah yeah because you're gonna ceiling ceiling do what you want but he's not gonna be walking on them you just want on the ground straight yeah just these areas really good any bet to you it just keeps it frog and everything nice and clean stops Annie but to you're getting gone okay so before we get we go any further we've taking the shoes off we've cleaned the foot up and we've trimmed it and as you can see we've roughened up a lot of this wall especially on the dorsal we've had a little bit earlier of maybe a little bit of white line disease in there possibly that was resected it out but as you can see roughened up all the dorsal hoof wall just to help do urethane or bond to that hoof wall and really grip on with a nice bevel around the toe edge so a mustang roll right now on the toe in order to sort of help when we have when we're putting the material on there in order to get as much material around that toe to help protect the toe and give you a much more as you possibly can show but it's also the sort of airport between zoom you jim you want you want to get that toe back nice yeah we've just put a little bit of topical treatments on there just a overtime mish boys mich over the top and folding here that makes nice and square mold goes on here making sure it doesn't slide back and then we can let the horse tibia in it let it stand you yeah pushes itself in so we're just gonna look to lift up these edges make sure that mesh is all idea and then we're stuffing the mission to the back here we're looking for we've got plenty of mesh here sorts the points about mesh rough structural support take some of the stress off the urethane itself and give us in structural layout if it's still move but stops this is the mold this mold has been designed and 3d printed too generic foot shape how many hops yeah did we scan we create a scandal or a fake to get what was a really good shape and then that's how we came to a balanced capsule and from there the urethane fills that void in 20 [Applause] you can see the top you jump up you do the next one I'll put a little bit in that one this one here a little bit yep Vincent's running out nice okay skip don't know that the urethane is filling the void between the foot and the malt so that's how it creates the shape yeah good yeah this one are you gonna pop the Phoebe in here because there's a high stress point take it down okay y'all okay go good you gotta stop all right Neal what looking for he's a little bit in the back here we're looking for this material just yeah that's good boy is this material here to be hard enough to take white mr. C it's already hard so we can pop them brilliant and Danny noon well it's still a little bit soft okay you shoot the swords good you poke it t on this here oh yeah okay let's see that push up yeah quite satisfying assuming you see as well spread it on yeah you can date okay okay so that's that's the urethane in so we'll now just leave this for a few minutes let it set of all this has gone really hard straightaway it's already fun so again nailing we can clearly start to get nice and warm to the Cure and stage is happening now and it was it'll set the few minutes what was what what started former hoof what was the idea behind it I was working in that car in hospital and it's part of my job I was rebuilding a lot of feet so we just lost foot mass and so I needed a way of rebuilding feet rapidly so through a series of inductions and control and error we got to this and is this an application that you can put on any horses what was yeah or is it for hope for feet that's what you need to rebuild whether it be if you want you or you know some sort of casting of any description well it depends like the hosted for courses if you add a horse that is okay barefoot and doesn't need any getting around that's okay but generally we ask a lot of it horses you know competition and stuff and they need protection you know and they need you know a three-dimensional protection not just a rim fit so that this gives orders you know total procession allow them to gallop over rocks and that sort of stuff and not have any stone roses because you have that in toys capsulation and we're trying it today on an endurance horse you try this on other sort of performance horses yeah have yeah we've had success in a few different fields actually some endurance some of the Western stuff in the u.s. racing and and it's also been used for sort of remedial shoeing especially with la maleta cases yeah certainly it's a good way to rebuild feet especially when they compromise and that's caught up on with laminas cases they suffer from the initial laminitis insult but then it's the growing back of the feet where they the fall apart so once you can get the laminitis under control and then it's just about growing a foot again so for morph does that you know it gives it a really good capsule with it nice can cavity in the foot and yeah it just means that horses can have something functional on their feet pretty much straight away and you're really helping that soul as well you're getting a plenty of soil support which ya know a lot of horses all benefit from definitely in and I can put medication underneath it so it means that I've got you know always got a nice sterile area for that frog and and especially if you've got perforation of the sole and I'm a nice you can put you know some medication on that wound and then have it in place 24 hours a day 7 days a week without having to change bandages treat clean and that from an animal husband of view means a lot less man-hours and a lot less hassle so I suppose another question that a lot of people probably asking how long do these lost yeah great question what I what I do to answer that question is I generally work out in steps because endurance horses do a lot more steps than obviously a Patti course so these these horses generally do about 180,000 strides or about 250 cats yeah okay well you'd happily say you could go at least a six weeks yeah yeah yeah I'd find that they like this horse will actually now have a plate too as well so they're designed to be feet we didn't make another shoe it's called form a hole for a reason because we're just making new feet and then you protect that put in whatever aspect you'd like so you sure door you what you think that's got enough material you know you can go ahead and load them barefoot so insurance it's about doing more so we take a lot aluminium plate to it and we need you don't get any nails in the hoof wall but you've got that structure there and the wear that you get out of play they give you good traction okay so the mold is off that's what with the other words so you can see all this excess mesh that can be trimmed off in a couple of minutes time you can just see how a little bit of excess your thing around the top but we've got the nice seen the solar surface of it you've got all that extra protection all that extra mass to the foot and that's nice Rob said you know we can even nail the shoe onto this now or you can actually leave it leave it there for see we'll just give it a little tidy up now what we are gonna do we're gonna have to shape up some fuse and because this is an enjoyable that's gonna be doing what potentially 80 kilometres very soon we've opted to put some shoes on I'm just gonna show you how how we do that [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] okay so the shoes are now nailed on nailed on clenched up I'll quickly show you them what we're just going to tack her up and Lancers gonna take off a little bit of a ride and see how she goes on me but before he does that I'll quickly just show you her feet now that they've been nailed on aluminium plates on and they are literally just for work no sleep fit the peripheral outer border of the former hoof the former hoof is in case in the hoof capsule and it's it's what material where we want it so the shoe then doesn't need to give extra width or length it just needs to fit that peripheral border in order to act as that wordplay - there they are they're all nail Gogh [Music] [Applause] [Music] so the perks of being a a farrier underwriter is you get to test test your own horse the shoes you just put on [Music] did you feel the difference yeah [Music] because you haven't got as much light on [Music] them yeah yeah that's extending that's where she just flex a little bit but it's further won't miss meadows [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so that's a wrap that's the application of a former hoof we'll drop one of the guys behind it yeah we'll do a follow-up on this and to see how she gets on but yeah another interesting shoe application method thanks for watching guys we'll see you on another video take it easy [Music]
