[Music] hi and welcome to my Playhouse and today we're gonna be setting up some iced coffee over here on the phenology rs.12 nineteen plus ice cozy is a protocol it's it's like storage over Ethernet you can use a regular network card and you can have a common storage box you can use this to have one server see one storage area or you can have many servers in the same storage area which is really smart and therefore is what I want to do today I want to have a common storage area where I can have multiple servers getting their files or storing their files and it's widely used when you want to move a virtual machine from one server to another server it really likes access to a shared storage at that point ice cozy is different from NSF or samba from not being a file system but a disk system it's kind of another peel of the onion you get further down into it and you get actually a drive that you have to format on the server that you give it to in this case we are giving it to multiple servers so the first server is able to format it and do whatever it wants with it and then there the rest of them will see that not that the rest of them will not be able to destroy that if they want to so have to be a bit careful there but yeah we're gonna try and set that up I am also gonna be setting it up so that the ice cozy is going out through ten gigabit ethernet the su knology box has this feature that you can tell it that all my ice cozy goes out to this network port by if GP goes up to this dead report management this port and so on you can have multiple ports and use them for multiple things so like there is for one gigabit ethernet sports in here and there is no reason for me introduce a 10 gigabit ethernet port if I was just connecting it to the Internet that would be a waste of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet port but in this case I want ice cores used to be able to have up to 10 gigabit it's never gonna be that fast I'm guessing but it might run faster than what one gigabit can supply so yeah we're doing that let's go to the computer though here at the computer I have opened up my genealogy brag station thinking here when I configure this I left some space I didn't use all the space for the volume that I have created right now because I wanted to make a separate ice Kashi volume you don't have to do that but you can do that see let's see I have totally I have sixteen point four terabytes available I am using just about twelve so there is about four terabytes available to making a volume here so here is my volume it's called volume two because I deleted volume one when I was done copying over data so we are gonna be creating a volume I should be very much surprised if it's not gonna call that volume monitored oh I forget custom yes we don't have any more choices so so custom put it on an existing storage pool check so we only have that one storage pool and we're gonna be placing it there I see that there's four point one five terabytes available to capacity sixteen point three six terabytes awesome next here we can pick the size how much do we want it to take up I want to set aside two terabytes this is a max value so it's not gonna be using all of this prison a we can choose these two file systems btrfs or ext4 i am gonna use the btrfs it's not the fastest but it's the most secure and it doesn't really the security doesn't cost any storage it just it's a bit slower and I'm not going for maximum speed here I'm going for secure storage ish here we are summary next apply don't go get and it will create my new volume one awesome so let's go and create our ice cozy on that so here it used to be that you configure iced coffee over here and there would be another couple of lines down here and that was for ice cozy the year they move that it it got its own little spot so here we have iced coffee manager so we can hop in there and in here we can see that there is mmm there's ten events because I have been messing a little bit with it but I deleted everything so everything is clean ish I hope should have deleted those events as well so to make this we need to go and create a lawn a lawn is the disk area that your server or it could also be a VM can see and I want to make sure that so I can connect all of my hosts to the same shared storage which enables them to be able to move virtual machines from one host to another host because they have shared storage so they can move the virtual machine to the shared storage and the other server can take responsibility of it and move it over to its local storage or just keep running it from the shared storage so we create a on here and there is nothing so we have to create it up here and we can give it a name and I don't think that long one is that create a name I wanted to say something more so I know what this is so I call it my Playhouse and if I was to make Benny that's a great name and we can put it on one of these two volumes and as as we just created this volume one for it it would be good to put it there then we can then we can see how big this has to be this is gonna be thin for listening we're gonna set that one just in a moment but let's just start off with one terabyte that enables me I could make another Laden just next to it or I can expand this later so thin provisioning I want that please notice this advance long feature down here that will change when we change this but this is actually pretty awesome right now it's set to no and that means that it will take all of that one terabyte of data as soon as we take it but thin provisioning means that it will only take up the space when we need the space and it can grow and with this new feature down here it can also shrink when you put data in your ice castle on it will grow and when you delete data from your ice crossing on it can reclaim that storage and it should shrink I haven't tried this in reality but I think it sounds really smart so I think we want to try that we want that that's a cool feature and now this advanced feature change down here so that is now available it gives us some more options down here like VMware the AAI and Windows odx have no idea what that does right now whatever next and it says that we're gonna keep creating that that's is awesome great and we have created the loan for it this is setting up mapping for this and that what they call a target so we are creating a new ice kasi target and it's the way in if this is if the lawn is the bunker well the target is the it's the staircase down to it ish I don't know that's that's a stupid way of seeing it but what next and here we can give it another name I'm gonna give it this same name again I think that will be fine there and this long name here at this one that's kind of the IP number or the all the URL for accessing this so we have our disk area and to get to it well we punch in all of that you can shorten that if you want to you're never gonna be typing it so it doesn't really matter you can also enable a lot of password here CH ap chap where you can put in a username and password you can also enable multiple we are gonna pass that right now I just want to I just want to have this up and running so this you can go in and add later no problem go on we get a summary and we can apply right now we have created a new lawn it's one terabyte it's we haven't used any of it yet so that's awesome we have created a target for that one terabyte there and there is a lot of stuff that is disabled like this multi session here which I would really like to mark and make blue so you could see it better but it's that one that's disabled and we kind of want that so then we have to go up under action and edit and we get a lot of awesome features up here like in the advanced we get the ability to may allow multiple sessions from one or more I score see indicators that one we want that is what enables us to connect through this LAN from more than one server so we will - that also over here in network binding we can select which interface to use and this is where we can make sure that it uses the 10 Gigabit Ethernet card which is connected down here and it has its own IP number so we can connect it there that means that this I scuzzy long does not go out on on this one well we can select that as well if we want to but it only uses that 10 gigabit port and gives us the fastest as possible so that is cool we are happy with that okey-dokey and that has been enabled that's cool Oh with that out of the way there's another cool feature here on the control panel and networking and network interface I've connected one one gigabit port and I have connected one after two ten gigabit ports and that one port five here is a 10 gigabit port I've configured the m2u size to 9000 which enables jumbo frames each here so that should give some ability to run faster if you can configure this through all of your network I am far from there yet but I have set it up and it's on that IP number right there so we're gonna mess with that it also has IP version 6 not using that yet but under traffic control here we can enable some guaranteed speed or some maximum speed you might want to do that if you if you want to make sure that that any other activity on your Synology box is not gonna well kill your virtual environment so let's just for the front of it create one of those so um create traffic control rule so port all now we're gonna select one they're gonna select one of the built-in application because I score she is one of the built-in one so we can select that and we can put them in order from name and we can see that we have two here that is about ice cozy and if we move this over we can see that this is some ice cozy replication I don't expect I'm gonna be using that but let's just pick both of them there and say okay how much bandwidth do we want to guarantee that our ice Agassi has well we could set that as it's in kilobytes per second so if we said we wanted to at least have 200 kilobytes per second that's not a lot that's two megabit that's that's fine and then maximum it's never gonna hit maximum if we just want it to be you able to use maximum well we just set a zero but let's just put something in that is near the maximum of what we could expect that would be ten thousand right that's probably about right normally it's not gonna use any of this it's gonna be somewhere in in-between but if let's say some file transfer was going on and using all of the bandwidth well you want to make sure that your virtual host is still able to get their data otherwise they might become very slow and crash and stuff like that so 200 kilobytes per second it's slow but they will keep running I'm guessing okay next hmm okay we have to set up that rule so save I'll just check if I can see that drive from my desktop that's usually pretty simple we go down here and you type eyes go see and you get ice cozy indicator there it remembers some of my old stuff so but if we punch in the IP number that way you just saw there and quick-connect it found absolutely nothing okay back to the drawing board okay not sure what happened here it I deleted the the old ones that wasn't active anymore and I punched in the IP number again I might have did I give it an wrong IP number because and when I passed in the IP number again it just got there and it connected to this which is the one that we have just created so done so now that is connected and it says that it's connected but we can still connect down here so we should be able to see that under our disk manager I guess but then we just got some new drives and we're not gonna do anything with them here in Windows because I really want that to be in a VMware format at least so I've got cancel that and we're gonna see it yeah two of them I guess I tried this once before you got here so it might be seeing those two there is probably only really one so let's um I'll go and check VMware ins if we can connect to it there as well okay so I have opened up the center here for VMware and I am on my every day server here as right now it's the awesome Lenovo system X 3650 model for oops moral fall right there it has a couple of very good intel xeon e5 26 90s version 2 3.0 gigahertz awesome 10 core CPUs with hyper-threading so that's a total of 40 calls to set this up we have to go into configure here and I have already been in here and is a fan here at the very top cold storage adapters and we can expand out that so we can see everything it has a mega rate adapter it has some SATA data and it has a USB storage so that it does not have any ice gauzy adapters at the moment which is perfect because we get to install it and there is this little plus up here at software adapter so yeah just happens to be that we can add a software ice Garcia dancer right there em you can also add a Fibre Channel over Ethernet adapter that would be down here but as we are messing with ice cozy we're gonna pick that one and it's just okay and it will add it and it's them no deal whatsoever it's right there and it gets its own identifier ice cores you talk it thinkI just the opposite thing so cool with that we can actually hear it go and connect to our ice cozy lon so which one is that dynamic discovery it will just give me everything that is on that IP number and it's so much easier there just go right there it found something it is already added so but it's not coming up with any dry we have an error up here due to recent configuration changes rescan of blah blah blah is recommended that sounds fair rescan so that disappeared we didn't get anything new down here that's rescan storage as well just scan everything you have to be a bit careful with this scanning feature because in the production environment things can go wrong I'm connected to it so it has power it could it be because it's not formatted yet should we maybe go and look storage devices here does it show up here yeah it actually does it's right there so it does see it here it's it's there it's it hasn't started using it yet so what we could try is go up and select action up here and pick storage and create a new data store and I will pop up if we just use this one let's check Oh it says it right here at lon yeah it should see all lon let's go on it sees it cool so we can add it here so we'll give it the same name that's the easiest my Playhouse high score c0 one there next pick that one probably next we can select which file system to put on here we will try this VMFS six here I'm not sure it might give me problems with proxmox later if I want to connect from proxmox to it but well that's we're gonna try that a partitioning use all available yes this size block size I think we're gonna go with withstanding here next and the summary and finish so let's go and see our storage there we get a new starts device down here my Playhouse Alon and it's available and we have one terabyte available of disk space that is awesome so with that in place I was able to give this server which is one of its a jump server I have given it a 40 gigabyte hard drive on that lawn and I have it right there and disk manager already sees that 40 gigabyte Drive which I can now format it's it's like a VMware drive so we can unlined it there we can initialize disk it sees it so yeah we don't need to put on it so we can just pick that one and we get a new drive we can make a simple volume next next next next next there and that is good so we can try and copy some thing forth and back to it probably take some local stuff do we have anything oh we have a we have a 912 megabyte files that I have recompressed so let's try and copy that copy yes it's moving with 200 megabytes per second that's great so it works that's kind of weird 200 megabyte that's fine that's great there is of course a lot of stuff that I need to configure on this I didn't set up any password thingies and I didn't put it on his own VLAN which models will be a good idea to separate the normal land traffic from the ice cores elion traffic's might give you some of this some more speed and some less interference and so on but this worked really well so I hope you give this video a like please remember that every video but this video we actually because stuff working which is not always so like and hit that bill thing he down there somewhere so that that is also happy and you get notified when there is a new video on live stream live stream is very important if you don't have the bill thing key you might just miss a live stream you don't get notified those thank you very much for watching my videos to subscribe to my channel so that you can see me again and have a really nice day bye
