How to Set Up Sentence Mining with Animebook, Thorium, Yomitan, Anki (And Eminent Note Type) in 2024

okay so the last thing that you need to do is to just check that it's all set up properly uh by doing a test run uh first of all go to Anki and hit the browse button and then hit preview then open up your files uh as you can see I've got quite a few files here um this is the one that I'm watching recently then open up anime book select your uh file and your subtitle drag them both in ski to a bit with some meaningful text you might have to retime the subtitle a little bit that's better okay let's check this one here check the word mik means friend add the word to Anki then PR the plus [Music] button yay and it's worked finally after all that big setup and that's it that's anime book working on thorium really cool if you go down to the description of this video you'll find this list of things things you need to get yourself set up and first of all you need to download the thorium web browser so if you just hit this the link and if you scroll down to the section on builds you'll have uh thorium for Windows thorium for Linux for mac and for various other systems here as well I'm on a Mac so I'll go to this section here and on the right hand side you want the section where it says releases here and if you select on here and as of this video this is the latest version of thorium so if you just scroll down to the bottom of this section and if you're on an Intel Mac you want x64 DMG and if you're on an M1 m M2 or M3 Mac you want an the arm DMG here I'm on an M2 Mac so I'll select this then I'll move across to my downloads folder select the DMG and it's to install it's a simple matter of dragging and dropping into your applications folder now I've already got a a version of thorium installed so I'm going to replace here but you'll probably won't need to do this if it's the first time you're doing it okay so that's thorium installed so now if we just move back to our list you can step two is to quit out of chrome and to open this YouTube video in thorium so if you go ahead and do that because from now on we'll be working from within thorium itself okay so the first time that you open thorium you're going to get this message that comes up so to get past this if you just select Okay then if you just open up your finder and then go to your applications folder and then search for thorium uh when thorium comes up select it and double tap and then go to open it says uh then if you just select open here and I normally just select deny here because I'm only going to be using thorium for using uh using it with anime books okay so now that you've got the thorium web browser open uh you can move on to step three which is to install the yomitan extension so just go to the link and add to Chrome ADD extension now it has this ex exclamation mark here which means it doesn't have any dictionaries so so if you go back to the list to onto the basic dictionaries link and you can just start downloading your dictionaries here um I recommend doing jmdict [Music] English Japanese [Music] names kir cake kid dict English I recommend ignoring innocent Corpus don't download that one we'll get some frequency dictionaries in a second and finally get the Ki M pitch accents okay so move back to the list and there's uh next are to get some frequency dictionaries so if if you just Google sh's yumy Chan dictionaries collection copy this and if you just go to the first link should work scroll down to the acquiring dictionary section there's a link here to select this and within here you want the frequencies folder now here you've got the whole whole list of uh different frequency lists that you can download from um I recommend the the recommended one here which is Japanese database JP DB uh innocent ranked um and then you can do as many of these dictionaries as you as you want I normally do about seven or eight uh anime and drama download that one uh let's see Netflix is probably a good one visual novels frequency yeah okay let's do that one uh and I guess that will do for now for that we go back to the list there's another frequencies list here you can check out if you like and if you just scroll down to the Yumi Chan section here you have a couple of four or five different choices here I recommend the slice of Life dictionary uh frequency list sorry size of Life download that and the Sha in as well let's download that one too Okay so we've got several different we've got a whole bunch of dictionaries that we can install here so if we just close out of all of these and if you just go to the little uh jigsaw piece here I think and then you can pin yomitan to your uh front here and then if you just select the yoman icon and hit the Cog wheel and then if you go over to the dictionary section you can see it's got a little exclamation mark meaning you need to do it and then configure installed and enabled dictionaries and then if you come down to import and go to your downloads folder and then if you just you can go ahead and select all of these and open and that will start importing everything so whil that's importing you can move back to your list now so that's step three done okay so on to step four which is to install the anime book itself so if you go to the link and if you go to the releases section a second on the right hand side and if you just copy this which is the latest version of anime book which is 112 copy this move back and if you just scroll down to the part where it says you can download anime book by hitting save as go to the here section uh link and this is the anime book HTML page here so what you can do is double tap and save as and if you just copy what you sorry if you just paste what you just copied there anime book to your download let's see let's yeah copy it to our downloads save so that's anime book downloaded now okay so if you move across to your downloads folder and here it is Anime book your anime book HTML page what you can do is just drag and drop it to your documents folder for keep safe then if you open your documents folder at the moment if you double tap the program it should open up in Chrome so to fix this what you do is you double tap go to get info and at the moment it's set to open with Google Chrome so you can change this if you change it to the thorium app uh sorry thorium web browser and then change all select continue and now when you double click it it should open with thorium which which is correct okay so that's that set up oh oh also what you can do which is what I do is I just drag and drop it's a little bit fiddly I just drag and drop it into my dock like so so that it's just a very quick way of uh turning on the anime book whenever I want to like so which is pretty convenient okay back to the list so next we've got the anime book installed we can go to the anime book Chrome extension which we need to do as well so this is the anime book extension which goes along with anim book itself go to add to Chrome ADD extension go to the little jigsaw piece and pin it to your uh to the front uh now what you need to do with both yomitan and Anime book is to allow access to file URLs so if you just double tap manage extension and on this page if you scroll down to allow access to file URLs switch that to on and if you go to anime book as well double tap manage extension allow access to file URLs and that should be that set up very nice okay back to the list okay moving on to installing Ani if you don't already have Anki installed you can just go ahead and download it now hit the download button and I think it auto detects which version of ani you need or which system that you're on but you can conveniently check all the different versions here um I'm on an M2 Mac so I will download the Apple silicon version okay move across to my download loads folder Ane 231 12.1 as of this video click on this and then just to install it you just drag and drop it into your applications folder I've already got a version of Anki that I'm quite happy to uh happy with so I'm not going to reinstall it now but you just drag and drop it into here and that will be installed okay so once Anki is installed then you just go ahead find anky open anky up so now what you need to do is get a version of uh anky connect setup so what you do is you go to tools [Music] addons get add-ons and browse addons and if you just do command F and start typing in anky Connect you'll see that it's anky connect is pretty much right at the top here so select this and then what you need to do is to just copy this code then move back to ankey and then copy it in here and hit okay and it says please restart ankey to apply changes so hit okay close out of here close out of here then open ankey up again and that should be anky connect set up with anky okay so back to the list now the last step has the biggest potential to go wrong but hopefully I can show you how to do it without too many problems happening uh so first of all hit the first link now this first one is the anky deck itself so if you just hit download then if you move across to anky go to your downloads folder and just select the anky deck itself and that will load it in automatically so if you can just check the deck out yourself if you want now this is the eminent note type uh but I've modified it a little bit moved a few of the things items around to suit me a bit better um and that's that's the deck installed okay back to the list and move on to the next item this is is the Yum tan settings so just hit [Music] download and if you go to open up Yumi tan and the Cog wheel and if you go to the backup section on the left hand side here and you want import settings in your downloads folder you've got yomit tan settings here select that and open and then just hit import and that should have imported correctly you can just quickly check if you go to Ani on the left hand side then configure anky card format it looks like it's mostly set up properly um the only thing is is that the deck is got this red outline here uh this is not correct so what you need to do is just select the correct one eminent sentence Mining and and that is correct now the red outline has disappeared so come out of there also if you go to the very bottom here of this section configure anky card templates select this and in here if you come down to the card field and then if you select glossery brief like so and hit test and what you're looking for is it should have divs in all of these here div div div divs divs all the way across it should say have divs divs and there shouldn't have anything else in these brackets here so that seems to be correct uh so we can close out of here oh we can also test the the I don't know if it would work [Music] frequencies but if you it's not frequencies it's just freak so if you just delete this and it just says freak test yep that looks like it's working correctly close also if you come back up to the yummy t icon there's a little exclamation mark it tells you some settings require additional permissions so if you just select this and go to the little Keys icon here now I'm not entirely sure which is the correct one to select but I found that when you select clipboard read optional if you select this to on then the little exclamation mark disappears so I think that's correct now so if we come out of here that looks like it's set up properly okay back to the list now the very last setting is the anime book settings so if we just click on here download and if we go to the anime book icon open settings and this is the settings page if you just scroll all the way down to the bottom and you've got import settings the middle button and you want the anime book settings here so select that and press [Music] open and if you just scroll all the way back up to the top it doesn't look like it's worked entirely uh you still need to select s the deck option uh the decks here so if you just select here and select eminent sentence mining then what you want to do is Select sentence sentence sentence audio to be sentence audio and picture to be screenshot and that should be set up everything is ready to go
