ok today we're going to be servicing a senior talent right here behind me I'm gonna be opening it showing you how to get into it how to clean it lubricate it what to look for I'm going to show you problems and potential problems that I find with it and get it back together then show you how to thread the machine and keep it going if you if you liked the video like and subscribe that way you'll be notified when I put more content out more videos as well if you want more information on machines you can join my group and it's in the in the description as well for now let's go ahead and get into this and get started I've already taken the screws out of the cover need a plate cover so we'll go ahead and pull that off pull this plate off move this off and I got a couple things I'll show you right here off the back so you can see this you can see how it's tore up right here right so that's gonna any any damage inside this hole where the needle goes that's gonna catch thread alright my lights not that great on that I'm sorry any damp that damages stuff that goes inside that hole you can kind of see it it's gonna catch thread right and when it catches thread that's going to increase your tension down here that's going to increase your attention down here so once this tension down here increases your needle ball your take-up lever goes up instead of pulling this thread back up out here it's going to pull thread from here which is going cause looping down here so this needs to be fixed if you're having problems with looping and you've got problems right here first thing is you need to fix that I'll show you later in this video how to fix that all right so now you can see here it's a plastic bobbin case see if I can yeah plastic bobbin case and a metal bobbin that's a no-no because that metal bobbin is gonna tear up that plastic bobbin case and those bobbins are a lot less expensive than the bobbin cases your bobbin case is normally started about twenty dollars and depending on your machine then go up to hundreds it's not will come to go to hundreds they're the most common is about twenty to fifty but still that's a lot more than a ten cent to one dollar bobbin right so if you have a metal bobbin case using my bobbin if you have a plastic ball case use a plastic bobbins the metal will destroy the plastic regardless of which way right so these singers are made you've got a retainer right here you've got this retainer right here and then you've got this stop spring stop right here you can get them out you got to just kind of play with it you want to be careful you can you can loosen these screws move this if you do that then you gotta move it back I think let's see you can see all that junk in there alright this is a bad thing you need to clean this out this needs to be cleaned letting your machine get like this you're asking for it to be destroyed these violent cases if they get damaged like this and like this I'm sure you go make sure I'm being just damaged like this this sore the needle hit it okay there's damage here this is where where it push past that stop and then got pulled back again let's see what else do we have there's a little bit of damage right there alright a little bit right here from the thread being pulled real tight on it you've got to clean all that up that's got to be cleaned up or you gotta replace the bobbin case I'll show you how to do that later but also because the thread would get caught on that as well when it's trying to when you're trying to pull the thread back up when the take-up lever trying to pull throw it back up it will get caught on that for just a split second and pull a little bit of thread from here which is going to cause it the loop down here alright so and take this needle out so that I don't get stabbed with it give your pliers no not all right see if I can it's important to tighten that so your needle doesn't come out but honestly you don't need to over tighten it and this is way over tighter way over tighten you'll strip this out you'll break the screw you know there's no sense in this whatsoever that's crazy you're gonna you're gonna end up breaking your machine tightening up that tight you know just a good a good hand tight that's all you need all right so the foot was already off this so let's get started we need a Phillips screwdriver kick down back okay you know Phillips screwdriver here all right need some place to put your screws if you can't remember which ones go where you might need to mark them or whatever I just kind of go about link and it normally works pretty good don't have too many problems this one down here you just need to loosen it it doesn't need to come out this one on the other side loosen it now not all machines are the same but this is the singer talent so these right here are plastic screws as you can see the threads are completely different be real careful of these they break easily especially if you have a brother machine brothers will really break easy so be real careful of that and this is a metal screw there it's always a good idea to look around make sure there's no more screws because as they and see their art as they evolve they change these machines up this is actually I like this panel here actually if you're gonna use canned air on a machine you need to remove a panel so that the lint has someplace to go and then work on spraying it outside outside right spray it out of that that's a really cool pen actually I like that that's the first one that I've seen it has now you can use canned air and blow that out this way right you can see all the lint in here that limp that limp will destroy your machine all this plastic in here this plastic gear this plastic down here they'll destroy it and they'll do it quickly so this lint is not a good thing you even with the grease there it will destroy it and as the grease dries up who will destroy it even faster so remember that and try to keep your machine clean keep it as lint-free as possible I mean you're gonna have some but you don't have to go much cleaning it I'm gonna have to yeah this has to come off on this one before I can take that little screw out but then it's time of a pain to get that off there so I don't need this on there to service it so I'll just take all that off and then always be careful taking it apart you need to have you need to have a small tool I had a small pry bar and I guess I lost it like this now I've got a little fingernail file I go get my I gotta go get another pry bar and you need to need it sometimes for pulling this apart like that look at all that stuff look at all that man you need to be able to pull it apart without tearing up your machine and tearing up the plastic so real thin pry bar works good you can get them at some tool outlets my body where I got it and what it was named I can't remember but it's mine was about that long I had a real flat edge on each in I'll remember it and I'll put it in another video when I get mode anyway okay so make sure we got everything here and this one I feel like I'm missing I have something in there you always got to be careful with the machines if it's not coming apart normally there's a reason of why it's not yeah right there there's normally a reason why it's not coming apart and I've got I've got some screws up in here it's got to come apart I'm a have another one over here on the other side I'm not sure have magnetic head screwdriver is a great idea those those magnets yeah I'm living off once I get this off those magnets will eventually die when you drop them whatever use them for three times so you can go to Amazon and buy some magnets let me see my magnets kind of like this right these bar magnets or you can get several different types I like two bar magnets there they're easy to break so be real careful but they're also very strong I'll show you what I mean I think I'll show you what I mean see they are a very very strong magnet they do a lot to help help read magnetize your screwdrivers so I've got this loose but I've got this back panel here there's not one to come off so you have to be careful with that not to break anything very carefully I've got something else holding it somewhere here so anytime it's being held up just be real careful the reason why there is a reason why it's being held up so now I'm gonna have several more screws I've got one these smaller ones are real common for this see this hole right here take a screwdriver you're going to need a Phillips go all the way through the other side I don't know that you can see through there but there is a screw in there okay this may be too short no it works and this screws into a plastic definitely need a magnetic screw here right there okay so that needs to come out they are singers good about doing that on the cheaper ones and then on some more expensive ones I put them put them in here back on this frame here with an arm coming off the plastic so you just have to find them yeah see which one it is if it's a less expensive machine then they'll probably be where I just where that one was if it's more expensive than they'll probably be on the back and then there's another screw right in their little plot for the plastic and move that careful oh yeah duh yeah remove the knobs and they're easy to remember if you look you've got one side that's longer let me see hard to see see if I can zoom in on it so that's a little closer okay so you got one side that's longer one side that's shorter and if you look at this you've got one side that's closed one side that's open so the longer side goes toward the open side right and that that's pretty much how singer does their stuff on most all of these knobs that pop off like this that way it only goes on one white and you lift it up get it off there just like that and there you go now now the machine is open and you see pretty much the whole thing and you can see how dirty it is and stuff I'm gonna take this I'm gonna take this out and spray it off with air and then we'll come back you can let me see you see all that stuff right there all right that's a huge huge I can zoom in on that there's a huge chunk of both grease and lint it will cause you a lot of problems okay so I took this out and blew it off blew all the blew all the lint and stuff off of it the manufacturer and a lot of people they use a lot of grease on this I really don't like tons and tons of grease he grabs the lint and holds it and it can cause a lot of problems you know especially like on this plastic and stuff it you get enough laying in there and it I mean the grease helps to lubricate and keep it from hurting it too much but if that grease starts drying out or you get enough lint in there that just overwhelms the grease the lint will actually start tearing up the plastic and deteriorating it so I'll normally kind of clean this up and either put a real light layer of grease on some of it I'll put real light and some of it I'll just put oil on depending on the machine and several other factors so but I don't put it on real heavy just because you can see that right there it's already that's plastic right see that I don't know if you can see that or not let me see if I can turn this up see if we can bring this in I don't know if I can or not okay you can kind of see that there right there there's actually two pieces of plastic sticking off there the my finger out of the way you get a small screwdriver here smaller maybe that all right so we've got that right there you kind of thought move there okay that's plastic and it's kind of torn off and that's from from it being eaten from from the lint right there was a lot of lint on there and it started to eat it and tear up the edges and they'll do that it will it will destroy you'll destroy this plastic it's a hard plastic but that lint is tougher especially when you've got tonnage it that just continues to come in it will it will tear this up so really don't care much for the grease myself but definitely keep your machine clean if you want it to last singers and brothers are more apt to be destroyed by the lint than some of the more expensive ones I don't know why well partially because of the materials and stuff that used on the machines and the way with the way it's built so just make sure that you keep it clean and have your machine serviced once a year so right now I'm just kind of going through and trying to clean some more of the areas out make sure that I got as much land as much grease out here as I can to help protect the machine and make it last longer and so I'm fixing to put some oil on it I personally use try flow and we're going to I'm going to get it in this joint right here in this bushing okay I'm going to get in this bushing I'm going to get it right here because these are pivot points here and right here you know let me see if I can get a little closer in all right so these are pivot points for your feed dogs and they move very quickly I'm going to get some oil there I'm going to get it like I said inside those bushings there's a bushing here that also controls the feed dogs and there's a piece here that moves back and forth this is for the feed dogs moving back and forth this is up and down and this is back and forth so I know it's kind of hard to see but basically anything that moves together rubs together metal on metal metal on plastic anything like that you want to get lubricated and definitely make sure that you lubricate this gear you've got a metal gear inside here on this plastic if there's anything goes wrong the plastics going to tear it up I want to point something else out here and that is this has a timing belt so if you get something stuck in here you get a material stuck in your machine and you yank it you can yank it out of time right here you can cause this you can cause this belt to pop around or the gear to pop around inside the belt and yank it out of time so be very careful with that I'm also going to lubricate the motor I know a lot of people think they don't need lubricating they do you've got bushings in there that need to be lubricated some of them have a place to lubricate them some don't the ones that don't you put it just inside when you put it just inside the motor that mean gonna be hard to see that but normally sometimes you can see and sometimes you can't there is a felt in there and it's just inside you can see the little black there that's not the felt the filters a little further down and you're just you want to douse the felt on each end of that can't really see it on this one - well I can see it but really getting it the camera to be able to see it you you can kind of see it inside there a little bit I can't point it out with my finger early but right right in that hole you kind of see that felt anyway that needs to be lubricated then I'm going to get this back out got the bushings on each end here on each end of the machine I'm going to lubricate those got a gear right here gonna lubricate that lubricate the shaft and all the little inner workings inside here and then get some lubrication inside the inside the hook right here so here we go all right so there's a little felt inside there should I get a little bit in there anything that moves just like that anything anything you see that moves rubs together needs lubrication and when you've got this for our part you're not this more of a service type not just oiling being a little bit more using a little bit more oil won't hurt it at all you want to make things sure that you've got got it cleaned up and well lubricated okay and then you want to make sure that you get the presser bar lubricated top end body top is right here a little bit more down here this is this down on the bottom is very very important so you want to make sure you got plenty down there and I'm gonna get it back in here in this bushing these are bushings where the shaft goes through though through the frame those are very very important because they are very tight very the shaft through that bushing is extremely tight moves extremely fast and it needs to be lubricated a little oil on this you've seen that there's like no grease on this gear but tons of grease down below that's just that's insane absolutely insane and again anything that moves needs a little bit of oil anyway just a little bit keep it moving nothing here all this in here you need to get some oil on this this is where everything here moves right back and forth on your cams that this definitely got to be lubricated and then put this back on here that looks good and you can you can see it moving back and forth in here right that's what you want you don't want it just getting stuck you want it moving gave this piece right here that you see that's smaller and bigger got all the steps on it that it this is just a stop for it and that spring is cognate to move so if it's not well lubricated there's nothing other than that spring is pushing it so it can get stuck and that's they make it this way so that if it starts getting stuck you know clear the machine up get that done and then I put a little lubrication on the shaft going through going through the metal make sure you don't have problems oh and I always put just a little bit right there on the bobbin winder turn that I'm gonna get some in here you know you don't want to douse this motor but you do want to get you do want this felt doused what that felt doused really good because it's gonna go quite a while before it gets oil again and I've seen motors lock up because of this not being properly lubricated and I've seen them burn up because they started locking up and people kept running them they overheated over had too many amps blowing through over he didn't burn up so you do lubricate these motors I know people say you don't and you're not supposed to and they are mistaken I don't know where they learn that I don't know who told them that but they are mistaken there are there are bushings on each end of that motor that need to be lubricated you got to lubricate them otherwise you're just asking for asking for problems I think that's pretty good I'll put a little bit of grease on there not a whole lot my grease some machines we'll definitely get more it depends on the machine it completely depends on the machine and how accessible the man is to get to the areas so that's really all I'm gonna put on that gear put a little bit on here a lot a little bit here again not a lot I don't want a ton of grease in here to catch Lin all you're gonna do is destroy your machine doing that and then after buy another one these are all of those little areas that was showing you you know just anything that moves gets a little bit of lubrication to make sure it continues to move and doesn't tear apart because these were these things move quickly we have a lot of speed to them especially in here and they will they'll mess up alright so got that done now just put it back together just get this thing put back together and that's it okay so I've got the Machine put back together now basically you just put it right back together the way cam part once you get it cleaned out and lubricated and everything whatever problems you have so if you have problems with the needle plate repair that you have problems with the bobbin case you repair that you can repair them whirring replace them if you want more information on how to repair them then I've got a guide below the video you can check that out it's nine 99.95 anyway and that will show you exactly though that will do more than that it'll show you how to take care of your machines how to clean on lubricate them diagnose them take care of small problems and make smaller pairs at home so if you want to know more information on how to repair that and check out that guide I'm going to show you right now how to thread this and then I also have a tip for you so make sure you stick around so on your so you're gonna first thing you're gonna do get thread but you want to make sure you raise your presser foot I got to get a presser foot on there put your thread on on it on this style you want you want a retainer that is bigger than your than your spool of thread okay main reason is so that thread does not get stuck on the spool alright don't push it all the way up so it's tight because if it has to turn sometimes when they roll these spools up they'll roll them up a little tight and in order for it to come off properly it'll have to turn if it can't turn then something's gonna bind break or whatever right so leave it loose leave it loose so I can turn alright and you're gonna go through this little thread guide around this thread guide and then you're coming down you're going in the tensioner tension disks the reason that we raise the presser foot is to open the tension disks okay then right here we're coming around the take-up spring if your take-up lever is not all the way up make sure that it's up make sure that you come around this and drop in okay this one's a little messed up I may have to fix that make sure that it's all the way in there otherwise if it comes out you're gonna have problems when you're sewing then you come down and I didn't put my needle in there so I'm gonna get my mule in make sure you have your kneel turned right on a regular sewing machine you Versalles work just fine if it's a regular sewing machine flat sides like on this one's left side goes in the back put that in there make sure make sure it's all the way up there because if it's not all the way up then you have problems okay when we undone this it was way tight so you're gonna put that in there you're just gonna tighten it by hand make sure it's tight you don't have to try to kill it but make sure it's tight all right now we're gonna come down and we're going to go through this thread guide needle bar thread guide and then we're going to thread the needle and I need a pair of scissors to clean the end of that thread up okay and right through the hole and we're threaded now you want to check and make sure it's an intention disks drop that put you're going about three or four your pull on this and see what kind of tensions on you can see the needles kind of moving then you're gonna turn up to nine and do it again and what you're doing is to make sure that there's a significant more amount of tension on there and there is so we're going to go back okay so now you tread so as we discussed earlier there was a metal bobbin in this and like I said we don't want to use metal bobbins in plastic bobbin cases right we want plastic bobbin cases but you've got if you don't have a machine with a metal bobbin then you're like well that's all wasted thread right and so maybe you'll just think well I can just use this one up and go the next one but you're putting more wear on your machine so here's what you do here is a simple fix okay a lot of people I've showed this didn't know this spool pin the spool pin is for Bop widen your bobbin okay so you're gonna put it in there you're gonna take this move bobbin and you're gonna put it on that spool pin and then you're gonna take this little one and you're going to put on here to help make sure that that metal bobbin does not come flying off now you come around here you notice I'm coming to the far side and around and I'm crossing the thread okay and it shows it on here you can see it on here the reason for that is to make sure that your thread does not come out of the machine or out of the that little tensioner there now you're going to shove this up through that little hole just like this and get in there and turn Neil but I can't put it through the bottom hole and put it on here and then you're going to kick this over and then I've got to plug this in hopefully I don't hit the camera we'll turn it on okay now we've got this over we've got the bobbin on there I'm going to hold this up and we're going to get started with it okay now I'm just going to cut this off all right okay there it is now you just took your thread off of the metal bobbin put it on a plastic bobbin and didn't and your waste was I mean just an inch or so so you're good to go that is a little trick for saving it's right on your bobbins and you put this in thread when the thread comes off to you into the right drop it in there bring it around and over and then we want to put our cover on it just like that okay so then once you get that done then you're ready just got to I've got to put put the plate are the foot on it and stuff and so and check it and make sure everything's good make sure you pop this back over if y'all have any questions or anything let me know in the comments and y'all have a good day thank you for watching let me know in the comments if you have any questions or comments let me know what kind of videos you'd like me to make in the future what kind of information you'd like to see and if you want more information on machines overall then you can join my group it's down in the comments y'all have a great day and be safe and again thank you
