[Music] welcome back to the channel good friends brian from apex detail this is yet another installment of the how to series this time we're going to concentrate on hard water spots this one should help you a lot because hard water spots it's a common problem no matter where you are and this vehicle has plenty of them i'm hoping this series is of help to you if you come across a situation and you hesitate a little bit or you're just not sure how to approach it just jump onto the how to series and scroll down through the videos until you jump on to the subject you're looking for and i hope it helps there are many ways to tackle harder water spots you could start with simple natural ingredients citrus or acidic based products that are quite commonly found like vinegar or lemon juice you can mix those together or use them on their own and give them a shot they will be successful if the water spots are fresh and are not very deep or prominent so this would be great for water spots that just formed maybe overnight haven't been there long enough to etch into the clear simply apply literally to the affected area and let it dwell for a few minutes then come in and simply follow up with a dry microfiber and buff you will need to wash the car afterwards there may be a little bit of streaking from the products themselves but it is very successful but however not here because these water spots have actually etched into the clear they have been there for a long time uh they have not been addressed so let's jump to something that's more aggressive on the other end of the scale but still chemically so you can go after them chemically and mechanically if you can remove them chemically that's the way to go a little bit less stress on the clear and with igl that's on the high end of the scale when it comes to uh chemical products that you can use simply apply apply to the affected area let it dwell for just a few seconds and then come in and massage into the area and then buff off with another dry microfiber this method has been quite successful for me for water spots they're quite abundant but still fresh and haven't had a chance to etch into the clear you'll see here we've removed the deposits the calcium hardware deposits but it left behind etching that's into the clear so that's going to bring us to another approach and that is mechanically and that's doing a one step and all you really need is an entry level polisher or short throw your fiber pad or anything like it and a one step any one step at all would work with a one step uh you may need to repeat the process so just do a crisscross pattern that is equal to two passes that's uh more than enough to get the abrasives in a one step to do their job wipe off the residue give the panel a little bit of a chance to cool down if you've been applying a lot of pressure and then go ahead and try a few more passes i wouldn't go more than three passes two should take care of any hard water spots and the etching that is left behind all right with the residue wiped off i'll bring you in close and you'll see yet again we have improvements now it may take you another pass or two at most to bring the panel back to where you want it to be but that is yet another approach very little effort so far but if you have hard water spots that have been there for a very long time and the etching is deep that may change and you may need to look into a two step it's a cutting compound such as 3d aca 500 or whatever you feel like using a cutting pad a long throw polisher do the cutting and then the extra step is to finish to remove any haze remember we are getting a little bit more aggressive we are spiking temperatures a little bit more we're digging deeper into the clear so more substantial protection should be laid down following these steps like a quality polymer sealant or even a coating or ppf as you can see we in this step cut away a lot of the imperfections and the etching from the water spots but it left a little bit of a haze and we want to bring through that gorgeous metallic color underneath the clear so we'll add a finishing step and we'll put some numbers behind what we're seeing quite a jump with again very little effort it was two steps but no sweat and finally you may need to get yet more aggressive so let's just break out that rotary late country hybrid wool pad and the aat from 3d that's the adaptive abrasive technology that they have that's excellent with both foam and wool pads but hey use whatever you want to use prime that pad let's get to work remember and i showed you in a previous video that using the wool pad on a rotary is much less stress on that clear a lot less spiking of the temperatures only raising a degree or two compared to the rest of the panel and that's what we're looking for using that rotary as a scalpel in our detailing arsenal under control you don't hear the polisher screaming on the sixth speed setting it's running between the third and fourth speed setting not a lot of pressure at all and when i can i'm running the polisher flat on the panel until i come up against a peak an edge a contour or a curve and you may need to slightly lift it on you know just a slight angle 10 15 degree and then lay it down flat when you can um is and as i have shown in previous videos uh cutting with the rotary and a wool pad will leave a slight hazing you need to clear up with the extra step and that's the finishing step that was no effort at all we're done and you can see this side of the hood the passenger side is cleared up brought back to its former glory and we only have the driver's side of the hood now to correct but a huge difference so there you go basically you have some easy steps to attack hard water spots and the etching that it leaves behind i hope that helps file it away with the rest of the series and come back to it when you need it brian from apex detail i'll catch you in the next video i appreciate each and every one of you
