in this video you're gonna see how to rig a Berkley Gulp swimming mullet onto a jig head and this is a great combination for a variety of saltwater fish pretty much most predators and the inshore you know salt water environment sweet this flounder your redfish sea trout snook i'm tarpon you know really just the full gamut because it just mimics a lot of a lot of prey that are there in those waterways so as far as the effective way to rig it is first of all you know this is the four-inch swimmin mullet and it pairs well with like a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jig head sometimes a little bit bigger for deeper water but in general I like this 1/4 ounce er for you know 3 to 5 feet of water a little bit lighter if if I'm going shallow and a little bit heavier from going even deeper and so the essential goal when we're rigging is to make sure that we don't have a big kink in the bait once it's rigged we don't want to have any sort of turns because if we do then it's gonna be helicopter in the water and that's the worst thing that we possibly could do so we need to rig it straight down the middle and then when we take it out it needs to it needs to come out at the natural point right the the point on the bait where the just the hook would naturally come out and so a lot what I like to do is I like to put it on the side and just hold it vertical hold it where the the swimming mullet is touching the the bought the base of the jig head and so now we can mark it with our thumb so we know that the hook point should be coming out right about here to make sure that it is as linear as possible so I got that marked we're going to go ahead and start on the very top right straight down the middle and just make sure that again that it is going down the middle the entire time you just take a little bit of feel I like to kind of just kind of inch it down slowly but surely and then we're going to pop it out right at that point that we marked right in the middle of the bait so we're dead center of the bait and and so now the goal is to get it up over these little keepers with with damaging the bait as little as possible so really the best way to do it is is just to kind of go there in one swoop so just shove it forward it got up there and we can we're out at the natural point right in the middle if we look at it from this angle you know this is totally linear there's no there's no curves there's no kinks and we look at it from the side there's no curves there's no kinks from the bottom this is gonna look really nice in the water when it falls it's going to go straight down that's not gonna be doing the helicopter and then even when you start using it you do want to look just to make sure that that when you do pull it fast it's it stays it stays like this with the hook point up what you want to make sure it doesn't happen is a helicopter if you see it helicoptering that means there's some sort of water drag that is not hitting it properly you know there's some sort of anomaly where it's not symmetrical and and take it off and rear it and then try it again because if it's doing the helicopter you're just simply not going to catch any fish it doesn't look natural it'll spook fish away in most instances so that's really it for the rigging you know fairly simple just again the biggest point is to make sure that that it is symmetrical that everything looks nice it's it's streamlined and then when you do start using it make sure that it is running it through the water properly hook point up no no helicopters and assuming that's right this can certainly help you catch a bunch of fish [Music] [Music]
