hello welcome to do it just have to blame today we're working on replacing the threshold on our front door a few years ago we had hardwood floors put down in our house and and the people did a fairly decent job putting the hardwood floors down but they didn't do a very good job with the thresholds and the weather stripping and stuff in our under our doors and just an example of course this is a threshold this is the rubber seal that the door supposed to rest against this is the hardwood floor if I closed the door we're pliers I should not be able to do that there should not be a gap there so obviously we get a lot of cold drafts in the wintertime through there we shouldn't be able to stick a pair of pliers under to no works thank them let's stick them under there this doesn't even take up all the space so that's what we're gonna work on today we're gonna take our threshold out we're gonna build up under it a little bit we're gonna install a new one which of course it's new it'll look a lot nicer anyway and so that's our project for today is replace this threshold and get rid of that draft under our front door okay this is our weather stripping the door threshold I guess the great part is actually the weather stripping and in our cases removing this is gonna be a little bit easier than most cases because there's three screws in it and then back down some overtime and you've actually worked her way through the weather stripping but ordinarily this brave weather stripping it's just pressed into a gap and you can pull it out it's not easy to pull out but you can pull it out with aids they get really hard and it's difficult you may need to take a knife and cut it and just open it up enough that you can get to the screws but to take the screws out just back them out no mind this one over here is gonna be a problem [Applause] all right now we'll go through screws out with script stripping or threshold should just lift up it's partly under our wood floor that's gonna make it tough good fortunately under the hardwood floor but there he is it's now down there's a little bit of spacing here that will probably replace that with something different clean all this crud out vacuum that out clean it up a little bit and then we'll work to put our new one in okay at this point we've cut two pieces of quarter-inch plywood to go under our threshold because we determined that's what we the thickness that we need to take out the space and put these in here so that these fit to just under our hardwood just a little bit our second one goes right here like that and I'm gonna go ahead and nail these down apparently my nail guns giving a little bit of trouble but it is working alright and then you're a new threshold will come something like this take it out of the package and you got rubber piece that you cut that's actual it blows up in order to make the seal against the bottom you know you got this piece and we'll have to cut this to fit it be real close cause we have a 36 inch door but it does have to be trimmed just a little bit we've got three screws that go down through it demand it so now we're going to trim this to fit our hole come here we're going to show you easy she'll come over here this is easy it's our little girl say hey the camera this is easy yeah you're good girl yeah that's easy she likes to help out she just don't like the noise all right now at this point we've cut then to the length we needed we also had to cut out notches for where part of the doorframe fits in so now a threshold our new threshold like that now the only thing we got left to do is three screws and you fit the weatherstripping in the top but before we do that we're gonna take this back up then we're gonna paint this we didn't want to paint it while we were still working on but we're going to paint it before we put everything together so now we're going to paint this let's put everything back together we'll show you the finished product now we've got our threshold repainted so it'll look nicer actually put I mean if you put the new metal threshold back down I'm gonna set this into place trying to scratch set right there we've got three screws to mount it the screws will be covered up when you put the weatherstripping in the middle always easy don't like now what are there more other stripping mistress behind there it is alright now here's the weather stripping it'll also have to be cutting a little bit to fit it's real close but it's a little bit long but the way I found to get this thing to go into best is you you bend it like this and push it down a little at a time like that that's kind of going in I'm using my left hand to arch it and using my right thumb to push it down over here and that seems to work now that's how you do it but I got to take this back up now because I gotta trim it to fit but I wanted to show you how we put it in so now we're going to trim that and we're going to install it all right now we got our a rubber part of our threshold trimmed to fit and like I said with pendant you arch it your left hand push with your right thumb kind of get that in there [Applause] okay all right Francesc a bit more off this hand and here we go we've got it installed now if we close our door back it should have a nice seal there tight over there you might work on that just a little bit but that still leaps and bounds better than what we had there's just a little bit of a hair space under their doors okay a little bit too much there you go we're replacing the threshold on the front door repainting it looks good and it's another good fix like I said we may do something on this end shim it up just a hair but it won't be much at all maybe 1/32 of an inch but there you go if you find this video useful
