[Music] what do you want Jurgen stain oh hey what's up normally I'm costing you money tail but today I would be saving you somebody the only way you could save me money would be by leaving all right so what's today's scam no scam this is legit I got a real job this time see they even gave me a business card dad what is this seriously Terrell I could save you thousands instead of you paying the fees you get the customer to pay the fees there's a Maddie legal it's only illegal if you get caught and you're not gonna get caught trust me sounds fishy you got new referrals uh yes I'm going up this morning he's loving it this thing's blowing up all over time need to get with the times Dan Terrell you'd be left in the dust let me call board and see how he's liking it whoa whoa you're wasting your time left on vacation this morning right after I signed them up he went on vacation yeah with all that money I saved them here uh call this guy Johnny signed up about a year ago he's loving it Oh long as cheese champ is running right through me kakashi bathroom oh the bathrooms lines in there you know where's that all right thanks man let me call this Johnny Oh hiya Johnny there uh yeah he's in the bathroom just a minute hello this is Johnny Johnny Rodney Jerkins team told me you signed up with this credit card company Ronnie jergensen credit card processing how's that working out for you oh I love it best decision I ever made that Ronnie oh I love that guy straight shooter Ottaway really and it actually works and you're not going to jail let's just put it this way if I was going to jail I'd be able to buy to jail that's how much money I saved Wow sounds too good to be true I should probably sign up huh well thanks Johnny and you have a nice day all right you have a good day too a little privacy Ronny jeez I didn't see you sitting over there I'm sorry so what do you think town sounds like a good deal Ronny but I still need a little time to think it over no problem Jarrell take all the time you need I'll be back after the how to with the contract stay tuned Oh pterodactyl hair today's how-to video is gonna be on this here 14 and a half horse Briggs & Stratton engine we're gonna change the alternator on it this mower came in and this wire had either come out or burned off and then the customer just went ahead and wired it straight in which he shouldn't have done because then he said he'd smelled something burning because he bypassed the diode EDD is in there and if you don't know what a diode is the easiest way to explain it to you is a diode is like a check valve an electrical check valve it only lets current flow one way so when he bypassed it it's probably fed juice back to the alternator and that's what cooked it so we're gonna take it apart and we're gonna put a new alternator on it but a good used one as I said you want a new one or you wanna use one and he said how much is a new one and I told him the price and he said how much is a youth 1 and I told him to press and then he said I'll take things so go ahead and remove the cover screws there's two here tool in the back and if you want remove the two screws for this cover makes it easier to come off for the electric start cover and you can leave the dipstick on if you choose and then you can just pull this cover off with the tube and everything now here's a little trick I'm gonna show ya on this dipstick tube seal they always seem to leak it's screwed in there so it kind of gets distorted so you can go buy a new one but if not just screw it in and when you tighten it up it'll start to squeeze it and then the tube will fit back in there tight again so this one was loose so you can just depending on how tight you want to fit is going to depend on how tight you turn in this little grommet because it's threaded in there maybe you didn't know that it's a rubber grommet that's got threads on it so if yours is leakin you can just take the tube off undo that screw take the tube off and you can turn it screw it in and then try it till it fits tight enough now we got to remove this screen which has got some Torx head screws on it and there t15 some half Phillips these have Torx and it's at-15 under the key 15 under the key 50 tango and then there's the bowl 15 16 15 16 socket and then what I do is I've got a bolt already I've got you got it somebody's engines laying around say you're fixing stuff for people get one of these bolts for use now like pull the fly wheels with up with a pry bar and a hammer and I know I do you're good you should use a flywheel puller well if you want to use flywheel puller use flywheel puller I'm not using a flywheel puller I've done it this way for years I have erect an engine yet and I'd like for you to explain to me how I'm gonna write that engine just by doing that because you know what they make flywheel pullers where you put a nut on there anyway you put a thing over the top they've got them where they spin out over the crankshaft that's exposed and you'll whack it with a hammer and your pry up on it that's how they do it now I can see here this spring down flow flew off of this starter this was supposed to be the return spring for this so this this is a mess here this starter Bendix I'm gonna have to address that looking at this wall more it's probably got a whole bunch of problems oh yeah yeah look here pardonez up part of the ring is missing here part of its missing here here here well they let those little details out so I'm sure this this lawnmower probably gonna cost more than they want to spend but at least you'll know how to do the alternator so get a pry bar stick it under the flywheel fry up on it and then get a big hammer and whack it right in the center as you're praying on it and you'll pop that flywheel off one good whack is all you should do he come right off and I didn't wreck nothing you're gonna wreck the crankshaft you're gonna break connecting right now you're gonna do none of that and looky there burned up and then these got hot you can see they're a different color than these this is how the color it should look so this one got totally fried and these two started to get hot and this one looked like it was starting to get warm because it's slightly different color than that so I'm gonna unplug it from here and then I'm gonna have to take this wire and reconnect it you can see this is a red wire with a black tracer and if you look real close that wire is red with a black tracer so I don't know what I'm gonna do here I may have to go find a plug like this and cut it and scab it back together cuz I don't have any of these connectors so I'm gonna have to fix that if somebody thought they would like to play lawn mower mechanic today today wreck it and make it worse or screws quarter inch socket to take them out and then you can pull this off and then drop the garbage now let me go up into my parts room which is to be my old bedroom and look for an alternator okay I found a good stator and you want to make sure the wires are on pointing on the bottom now actually these wires are supposed to be tucked behind this starter so we're gonna pull the starter off and tuck the wires through the proper way now a big problem a lot of people have is they will change the starter and get these wires pinched under the starter and then that will cause an electrical problem they'll have an OL I didn't have an electrical problem before I change the starter yeah well maybe there was something you did so take the starter back off and look because if things are fine before you started messing with them chances are you did something so you have to go back and do it again I don't know how many times people will come in change the flat tire on the back of the tractor and the key fell out of the axle in there it was driving fine and all I did was fix the tire now the transits blown well fans just don't blow from change the tire you did something so cheap I fell out so just remember that if things were working fine before you messed with them chances are you did something so this is your along with the diode that's your DC voltage that's what's going to charge the battery and then this black wire is AC voltage and that usually runs the headlights so I had mr. Cameron take some pictures of that hey V dandy Briggs & Stratton alternator charge that I got on the wall and it shows all their different alternators and then I went in my bucket of wires and I found the right female plug that actually had the red wire with the black tracer and a white wire and then I connected them to the new plug because that guy done chopped them up now these plugs will only go on one way they can't screw that up see how it's got a line on there now there's other plugs that'll work it just got different color wires like this one down here with the gray wire that goes to the shut-off on the carburettor and this is your black kill wire I could have chopped off one of these off of something and use the two but I got lucky and I found that plus I'm gonna have to fix this anyway they got this all goofy so I'm gonna pull the starter off and I'm gonna fix that Bendix now I had to go and find a flywheel so I went out in the junkyard and I found a flywheel with a good ring gear on it but it's got bigger magnets than the other flywheel so it'll work with these bigger magnets the only thing it's probably just gonna work better now I would have replaced the ring gear cuz you can replace this ring gear but I didn't have a ring gear in stock so we're gonna do a separate video on how to replace the ring gear and they got lots of kids for the ring gear but we'll explain that when I go to do it so I'm gonna hang on to this flywheel and fix it we're gonna do another video now let me go ahead and fix the starter tuck the wires in like they're supposed to we'll put it back together and see if this old motor will run now that's how the wires are supposed to run that's how they come from the factory so if ever do this you might want to take a screwdriver just to make sure that the wires aren't pinched make sure they move and then you can see I put the new Bendix on now if you're curious about how I do that I got video on that too on starter now we're gonna put the flywheel on tighten it down and gotten me a new key that other key was slightly feared now this is also important you gotta make sure you get this flywheel nut tight because if it ain't tight it's gonna share that key so see there's a flat washer on there and this cup so you gotta make sure you get it tight all right so I'm gonna come back on its a dipstick tube in there now you can see see if it's a lot tighter in there than it did before what want to screw this down a little bit more I can even get it a little tighter yeah or buy a new one so you get that passel locked in there a little tab now if you've got one of those other newer intech motors that covers in the shape of a teardrop that's got a goofier baffle with a little more trickier to get in there but this is what we see you know comes in for an alternator and then we discover all these other things that are wrong and then that's why their bill was so expensive and then you know the next thing you're ripping me off like no there's a lot more needed a lot of work let's see if it'll crank over and start we'll check for voltage what a surprise so I had way more problems than just the alternator which I figured it probably had so if you wanted to see how to replace the alternator you can shut the you know but watch something else now well we're gonna keep digging into this now this wire here is for the reverse kill so if the blades are on and you put it in reverse it kills the motor so you don't run something over and chop them off dog little kid neighbor all right where's my test light I use my test light I always act to have mr. test light chopped down on the negative side of the battery you can go to any where ground but I like going right to the batteries so I'm going to test the fumes first see if we got power to the fuse and that's probably our problem snippety snap snippety snap diesels blowed and that's all probably due to that alternator problem back feeding so it should crank now so on your particular mower gas find out where diffuses if it has these look at their crank it over barely all right I took the spark plug out just to make sure it didn't have leaky carburetor leaky needle and seat problem with these which these have just to make sure there wasn't a bunch of fuel in the cylinder head and that was causing it to you know not crank over easy because it's trying to push against all that raw gas so I'm we're gonna crank it over and see if a bunch of gas shoots out of there now if you do that you want to get spark plug wire out of the way because it could arc off of something it's started a fire I've had that happen before out in the yard then I had to run all the way back in the shop and things burning on fire knucklehead meet Frank install so it's probably the battery alright I got a little jumper pack on there with TLC cranks now may need I may need to adjust the balance to that might need to be adjusted [Music] so more than likely the culprit is the starter so I took the starter part to show you and if you look at the wires they're kind of dark like it got overheated the colors of the wires should be like this because remember on the stator see how they turned that darker color they're all supposed to be like this so chances artists this starter got overheated so I got a bunch of these take-off starters but they've got a different Bendix on it so this is important to know too this has got a different number of teeth just like teeth in my head I got a different number of teeth two four six eight ten twelve fourteen the plastic gear is two four six eight ten twelve fourteen sixteen so this has got sixteen this has got fourteen they won't interchange this is for a different model so if you've got a starter with a metal gear and you got a starter you're replacing what a plastic gear you gotta use the same one now remember I put a new Bendix on here so what I'm gonna do take this Bendix off put it on this starter now briggs has a tool we're removing these c rings and the trick is to get this cap down you got to push this cap down now this is all explained in my starter video so if you want to look that one up so that spreads that Sebring out so you can take it apart then we got to do the same to this now you could use that see ring over if you want let's see you have to get that down you got to push that down so you can get to the ends of the see ring I'm pretty sure in the starter video we give you the part numbers all these tools if you're interested or you can wrestle with it by using a pair of side cutters and put this water on and then I'm going to close I'm going to squeeze this up but I just use the pair of channellocks to squeeze it up and then they got this tool for putting the seed ring on you might be able to make one of these then you hit it with a hammer they're gonna put that sea ring on that C ring looks like it still needed to be collapse a little more so I'm going to take it back off squeeze it up a little tighter with the channel locks now that's how it should look that C ring should fit in a little groove of this retainer cab so that's how you should look should be up in there so let's put this back on that mower and see what else is wrong with it once we get it to crank over I'm sure I'm gonna have to set the valve now there's that little little spot where that wires got to go through so you got to be careful I'm gonna use this this one here because it's got that torque that way I can hold it and get it started and then I see I can pull all my wires and they're free in there that's what we want all right I don't have my booster hooked up to it and if this don't work I'm gonna have to take this to a lawnmower shop and get it there cuz I don't know what's wrong with it all right let's see what happens I think the valves need to be adjusted though let's see if it'll if the cranks are but since it's in here I'm gonna set the valve so you got a lot of a lot of little knowledgeable things other than just changing the alternator and if you want to know how to set the valves we've got a video on that too but a lot of times if your mower is cranking hard you know you think well it's the factory it's the starter no it's the bowels got to be adjustment adjusted because there's a compression release on the camshaft and I'll explain to you how that works because I have to go get a camshaft with right now I'm breathing at all these carbon monoxide fumes and I'm getting sleepy don't dick off first I'll take a nap and then I'll go get the camera I'm awakened from like carbon monoxide nap now I just want to get serious here for a minute carbon monoxide is nothing to fool around with so if you're messing with these small engines make sure you're in a well-ventilated area okay I'm a joke around about it a little bit but it's not a laughing matter kills thousands of people every year over carelessness with carbon monoxide so take it serious all right now here's the camshaft with a compression release on it in case you don't know how this works see how it's got that raised on the lobe so when this is spinning the valve lifter goes over that it bumps the valve a little bit to relieve the compression and then when the motor starts centrifugal force will fling this out of the way and now it's flat so it rides over smoothly so it doesn't keep bumping up exhaust valve and then when you shut the motor off it returns to that position so the next time you go to start it it bumps it so what happens is is the valve lash you know that 4000s you need it gets sloppy so now it's just riding over it or trying to and then that's why it's not pumping the valve to release the compression so it'll start so that's how that works so you always got to check your valve lash it tells you in the manual but nobody reads manual and they got different valve clearances that they recommend and I set them all at floor and I've never had any problem I never had any of them come back oh he said it too tight no I said them all at four so that's how that works all right so let's start it this thing's got a little ant meter on it so let's see if it goes towards charge because that's what we did we replace the alternator so that this alternator it's got a slow rate of charge as you notice it was you know gradually raising the numbers on the meter because as you're running it you know cutting your grass for an hour half hour slowly charging it so you always gotta remember these alternators aren't real high-end words like in your car that's why you can't you know when you got a dead battery you can't jump it and just think that this alternator is gonna charge that dead battery back up it's it might if you drove from here to California it might get it charged up but it's always supposed to put back what it took out to get it started so just keep that in mind if you're doing a lot of short trips kicking it on and off and on and off and then you're wondering why your battery's dead or it's draggin you know it's because you're you're taking out Ward and you're putting back into the short amount of time so you got to keep that in mind you know the mowers that got the electric clocks with the button those got a higher amp alternator so those put out a lot of amps so it'll charge the battery a lot quicker because it's got to support that electric clutch so a mistake a lot of people make when they're repowering stuff and some of you may already know this from our other videos is that you can't take one of these lower amp alternators and put it on a mower that Scott an electric PTO clutch because you're just gonna kill the battery you're gonna de bet the clutch is only gonna run out of the battery and then when it kills the battery it's gonna kick off the clutch and then the mower is gonna die because it's not going to be able to hold that little solenoid open on the carburettor and then that's what kills it and then they go to start it and it's click click click click and then they gotta jump it and while I got to keep jumping my lawnmower that's because some knucklehead put a new motor on it and didn't put the right app alternator on it the right amperes alternator so you got to keep all these things in mind so once you know how all this stuff works you're able to fix all this stuff so even though we use the flywheel with bigger it's on it it didn't hurt anything because we went a little bigger so that's all there is to footing this alternator on and then you learned some other stuff about starter and fat trees and fuses and whatever else I told you camshafts so subscribe to this YouTube channel follow me follow me Instagram follow me Facebook go to our web store buy our Carroll apparel and as always there's your dinner I don't know pop I wouldn't sign it I heard him talking to some guy in there on the phone it was probably scamming them or it was a new potential customer wanting in on something great what's an aerosol pop that sounds like Ronnie legit honest you won't go to jail stop cooking I don't know Jr sounded like a pretty good deal hey oh here he is not with the contracts ready to start skin when you come I mean charging your customers hello right I don't like signing contracts what's wrong tails don't you want to save big ya says are there if I sign this I walked into a non cancelable 500 month lease at $100 a month also says you can come in and take money from the register whatever you want all right I don't do this for everybody but I made this totally legal document on my computer that all I gotta do is initial and it will waive all those fees and leases what do you say this is a scam I saw this on TV on podunk report these scammers go around trying to get people to sign their business away with these bogus leases don't sign it pop don't listen to him Terrell I'm gonna save you money Here sign it I don't know Ronnie I got a bad feeling almost like when you eat a bacon Zillah I'm not signing it Ronnie kick rocks do you be an idiot not to sign this contract yeah what I just called you an idiot and here's your credit card machine [Music] [Applause] hello
