[Music] somebody's here PAH who is it I don't know jr. I can't tell oh great what do you want oh man help out do I know how busy you guys are just I'm gonna see yeah well don't worry Andy we got it under control let me just scoot on out of here all right kick rocks yeah any time we try to have you work out something or do anything you mess it up that's not true you doesn't even put me on the right job I got that pen for you at one time but you guys were close before I could give it back all right Andy job interview time what's two plus four do things for that's uh 24 go home Andy don't worry tell Oh Oh crackpot I think I just killed uncle Andy oh great I'll get the shovel but you're digging a hole this time wait pop I think he's still breathing I mean he's alive oh wow I almost feel like a whole new purse Andy are you okay please call me by my given name enough real enough real and what happened to your wife whatever do you mean how I talk Wow whoever dressed me dispar job most excellent threats yeah you trust herself in enough Rio don't you remember no I don't remember anything it's like I just woke up well India was pulling on this mower here that wouldn't start but accidentally knocked Ania ah of course I remember now maybe the reason that that mower wouldn't start is because it's got a cracked manifold maybe you should take a second look huh hey ray look at this manifold good job Andy gum block hey Nene what's 396 times 873 oh that's an easy one three hundred and forty five thousand seven hundred and eight highly doubt it he's right looks like someone's got himself a new job there today's how-to videos going to be on this here bridge that Scranton in tech v-twin intact this one happens to be a 20 horse on a John Deere what they put these engines on a bunch of different mower so it's going to be on the in tech be point and I'm going to start it so you can hear the problem it's got maybe yours has got the same problem then we're gonna figure out what it is hear that snapping and popping and I was shooting back out of the intake so that tells me it's got a valve problem so next thing I want to do is pull the valve covers off so we can watch the valves go up and down stay tuned okay I remove the valve covers and I also took the spark plugs out so I could turn it over by hand now we're gonna watch these valves go up and down okay now we're gonna look at the other side okay the other side to look good now let's check this side oh look that one's barely opening now look how far that one's going now look I watch this one move look at that barely opening so we got something wrong now I don't think it's the head I think it might be the camshaft and I'll tell you why okay now this is the camshaft out of a single cylinder but I just want to tell you about it you got these lobes on here and that's what opens and closes the valve now if this one's wore down then it's not gonna open the valve enough so that's what I'm thinking is wrong with this engine I'm thinking the low-vis wore off and it's not opening that valve so what we're gonna have to do is take the engine off and crack it open and take a look at the cam because I think that's what's wrong with it okay time to rip the engine out [Music] okay now we got to remove the sump cover and that's pretty simple to disappear pretty simple just remove these ten bolts and just connect the governor arm loosen that nut and pop it off don't worry I'm gonna show you step-by-step how to put it back together and reset the governor all right we gotta take all the push rods out in order to get the pressure off the lobes so we could take the cam out and this was the one I already had this one out because this was the one that wasn't opening and closing so now I can take the cam out I'm just gonna lift it out of here oh gotta move the lifters on the way I'll take a screwdriver push them out of the way and there we go okay are you ready you ready to see the lobe there it is right there look there's no bump on it barely a bump water down now you think there'd be a big gap on the foot on the rocker arm from this being wore down but there wasn't and the reason I think this thing wore down lack of maintenance just think about it this is the lobe that's in the bottom here this is the one closest to the bottom and look at this look at this oil in here look at that probably never change the oil dirty oil acts like sandpaper because I haven't changed too many of these I have on the other ones but or maybe it just wasn't hard enough they didn't treat it right so I called the customer and told them they needed a cam how much a new one was and I might have a good used one and he said you guessed it put two used one in so I got a junk engine out there I'm gonna rip the cam out and stick it in here now I know I said I was gonna put a use cam in it I looked around I don't have any left I'm wants to use them all but I did find an older cam from an older v-twin it's not this isn't out of a vanguard this is out of a another in tech but an older one look at it this is cast this is the Cask am it's thicker it's got bigger journals on it then this cheap one and if you notice there's no compression release on it these cams don't have a compression release but this is the bad cam remember that the low vis all wore out at school so Antle order a new cam which we got from our friends at Pro Park direct dotnet so if you need any engine parts or a lot more parts go to pro Park direct dotnet make sure you tell them Terrell sent you got a new seal or the SUP cover to new valve cover gaskets and that gap is kit that comes with the new bolts it's a heavier gasket and I'm throwing it around all right crank over to the pot see what they give us what's in this little bag here is a little bag of goodies new lifters so throw the ill ones away so that's gonna be the first thing we're gonna put the gel glue which is gel lube and assembly lube which we sell at our webstore don't you want to get some of this good stuff okay so I'm gonna add on real sticky put the lifters in put all four in make sure you got the push rods out first and then we're gonna have to reset the valves once we put this in in a checkup so let me explain another thing about camshafts it's a lot of people you gotta set two cams if Pistons got to be at top dead center you can't set that the lifters when you've got one valve fully open and the other one fully clothed that doesn't work it's gotta be a tap dead center no don't look at the cam if this one's fully opened you got all this space here which is which it's not riding on so that means that's where you're gonna have your your backlash setting is on this area here so it doesn't matter if this one's fully open that one's fully closed you could set the valve simple as pie don't overthink things now respiration gel Lube on here and we're gonna spray it on the lobes I want to lube up them lobes real good it's like I said this stuff's sticky it sticks to it and now there's a mark tiny mark right there that little dot and then there's a mark on the camp line it up right there there's a dot there's a line on here too we don't want that we want to die dot dot dot to dot drop it in there you go now we're gonna spray it so my hero I'm running out it will leave this up to now we're ready to put the cover back on and in case you didn't know all your engine information is on the valve cover model type and code you're going to need that to look up the parts that's why I didn't give me the cam number you might have an engine that's got a different cam but this gasket is the same for all the v-twin five nine four one nine five and the seal 795 387 and make sure you clean everything clean all your parts get everything all nice and clean ready to reassemble like I did I think you had the old inside of the engine clean so I'll pop that seal out pop it out with a screwdriver and then here's the new seal tap it on the corner I'm gonna seal I got a piece of PVC pipe you can also use to help drive it in and don't want to damage it drive it down you only hit that lip there's your dinner on that [Music] like I said the gasket that comes in the kit where they give you new bolts they give you the pattern how they want you to tighten them it's all kind of information make sure you read this tells you in a torque I believe it tells you the torque yeah tells you the tour 300 inch pounds the new gaskets heavier made out of a different material now it's up to you if you want to put some kind of gasket seal around there if you are I would use I like that spray that high-tech looks like one of my little dolls will do it I gotta find it I found the pin was laying in the bucket I was draining the engine in now I'm moving up the seal putting a little Lube on there oh yeah one other thing this governor I put an arrow on there to kind of show you that's which way it goes because what you want this pushes up against this and if you have the if you have this turn the other way that's what makes this spin out and that's what makes the engine run wild so I put a little arrow to show you which way it goes and now let's pray a little Lube on here to make sure your fingers are clean all right check this two if you got one of these drains make sure it's tight reseal it if you have to be careful you don't roll the seal now you may have to turn the crank a little bit wiggle it to get everything to match see drop right in but look we rolled the seal see we rolled it you got to be careful now I got to take it back off and then the little spring popped out so now I got to get that spring back in to seal all right I wanted to show you about rolling that seal so take a little screwdriver and get it started fancy and get that lip started now some people put the cover on then put the seal on next but if you don't have a seal tool to drive it down in there then that makes it harder but if you got a seal tool then just put the cover on and then put the seal on afterwards but if you don't just use a little screwdriver to get it started but I kind of wanted to show you about rolling that seal we got like three videos on this B twin in tech because they got so many problems we got this one with the cam we got one with the leaky gasket have to change that leaky gasket we got another one where the push rod went inside to block bent it all up I had to take it apart to get the push rod out for a new gasket on it all right so now we're gonna put the bolts in put the new bolts in start them by hand make sure you blow the holes out there might be some leftover threadlocker that make it a little harder to get the Foods in at the airline knocks everything on the floor and then I like to use a speed wrench instead of trying to do them by hand so what I normally do is back it up till it clicks and then start it so go ahead and put all your bolts in and just tighten them down then they stop you don't have to tighten them right now all right now you got to tighten them a little bit at a time you don't just go right to 300 inch pounds or 25 foot-pounds and if you don't have a torque wrench just tighten on the best you can Oh [Music] money's calling like I said if you don't have a torque wrench just tighten it you know the best you can using that standard pattern because again it's a lawn mower it ain't the Space Shuttle the bolts are tight they're not going to come out they got thread lock around them just don't tighten them there where you're gonna snap them off right so now the next thing we got to put the oil pump shaft in so we got to take this cover off by 16 so maybe this fell out on you that's the oil pump shaft motor will run without it just going to burn up because there ain't gonna be pumping the oil so get this little guy out and then drop in the shaft it'll only go in one way so you're not gonna mess it up and then kind of spin it till this drops in there you go and these old rings they usually don't go bad I never replace them unless yours is you know fertile and breaking apart and I believe they even give you a torque spec for this but again I'm not going to the moon 20 seconds and counting we're not going in the International Space Station we're just cutting our grass now we'll set the next we'll set the governor then we'll click the push rod check the backlash all right now we're gonna give you a good look at how this goes in case yours came on flat and you're like what are these Springs go where does that go that's where they go so take a minute take that in so you can see mr. cameraman doing a fine job [Music] all right then I'll just put this on the shaft and remember I drew that arrow line there and that arrow was going that way so a quarter inch wrench will fit on here see and we want to hold a knife full throttle we want this on full throttle and you'll know that because you'll have all that tension against the governor spring when you go the other way see it's not it's kind of not it's springy but it's not real springy and when you put it out fast okay and then we went all the way this way so we're going this way with the wrench this way with the wrench you're holding that whole throttle now you can tighten this down [Music] when you got it off fast see you can you can move it it'll move now I'm going to show you if you went the wrong way you went the wrong way and you got this on fast and you tighten it down this arm isn't gonna move see it won't move and then you'll start the engine Wow till the rods blow so you either go one way or the other so if you starting to start throwing a wild shut it off right away and then go the other way so I'm holding everything at once I'm holding the throttle with my finger wide open I'm holding the wrench with these two fingers octopus fingers and then I'm tightening the nut that's how you adjust the government timing governor okay now the push rod to aluminum to steel if you want you can put all four steel ones because sometimes these aluminum ones are kind of wimpy the aluminum ones go on the intake side so you're gonna have to make sure you get the head of this in that divot on the lift remember the old liquor gotta make sure that gets in there so you're gonna have to shine a light down there to make sure you're in that pocket and then what I do is I just push on the with brute strength and drop it in there then you want the metal one on the exhaust side now you may have to crank the motor over that'll help you to get design easier alright that's one side do the same to the other side and then we're going to check the backlash crank it over by hand this one's open all the way four thousandths I'm going seeing that one's tight so I have to reset it break that loose pack this off a little till that fits in there that feels good hold this tight lock that nut back down and recheck it that feels good you're gonna have to go around and do that to all of them [Music] I mean it fits in there it's tight but I'd like it to slide in there now on these new Briggs engines they don't even use a gasket they use a sealer or the valve cover now if you want to put sealer back on there just got to make sure that both areas are real clean and you're gonna have to let it set and you might want to Jack the motor up so you don't get oil running down on this area otherwise they're gonna leak so sometimes it's good to Jack the motor up so the oil is gonna run back and then make sure you clean this real clean with brake cleaner or carved spray or you don't have to reseal them if they had originally had the gasket sealer on there you don't have to reseal it with that you could buy gaskets and put gaskets on there and let me give me the gasket number what did I do with it Frank threw it away here it is six nine oh nine seven one and when we DS our stems ones four seven five four five two now these things leak too so I like using the high tack on there you could use this on the sub gasket too if you want but I don't think it's necessary they really improve that gasket I haven't had any problems with putting them on with no sealer that's up to you some people are sealer crazy this is a rattle can they just spray it like you're spray paint a model car there you put a good amount on there make sure you shake the can up good then you gotta let it set a couple minutes so it gets tacky and then if you want you can spray it again but the trick is you gotta let it set if you win it to get tacky okay we reinstall the valve covers now make sure you check this vacuum hose for your fuel pump make sure there's no cracks or splits in there because if it is it ain't gonna pump right it's gonna be sucking air ain't gonna pump the fuel correctly so make sure you check that and if you need one get a new one look it up like I told you and I showed you I told you and I showed you okay I got it all back together and got every bark plugs in I don't think I forgot anything you're gonna have some leftover bolts I throw them away I got so many but you might want to keep on their good 5/16 bolts thread diameter oh yeah you know what I forgot put oil in it I'll do that once I put the engine on the tractor okay you got the engine ring style got a full oil fresh oil filter let's fire it up okay there's all that is to putting that camshaft in that Briggs & Stratton and there is your dinner so by combining those two elements and squaring it with pi are you still following me that will make the basis for time travel possible well I gotta get going we got a lot of lawn mowers to fix I'll catch you later bye who was that it I mean enough real oh that was just an old friend then I believe that guy's head scientists at NASA I got a remote fixed and ready to go in that yard out there Wow great job and I free oh I'm glad we got you around you know what you're probably gonna put jr. on the job here pretty soon [Music] sorry enough REO are you alright Oh all free Oh hate that name call me I'm glean D whoo I'm glad to see you're okay can't hit my top mechanic down and out we got that engine coming in next week and I'm gonna need your help and follow this stalling it engine I don't know anything mount down really what you don't hey Andy quick question for you what's two plus eight I don't know twenty-eight hey you got my water maybe Begich it Bo's how's that office doesn't need cleaning we can do that I'm pretty good at Cleveland well that was short-lived looks like we got our old Andy back are we got looking at me like that ball [Music]
