[Music] how's it going guys so in this video I'm going to show you how to troubleshoot and potentially repair a non-working DualShock 4 controller I say potentially because I'm not too sure if this is gonna work myself but let's see what happens so basically the issue with the DualShock 4 this is before the ps4 slim so this is gonna be the CU h - zeef ET 1 you not need to you what happens is let's say so this is a portable charger power bank normally when you plug this into here your DualShock 4 controller should start charging so you see here that it's actually working the power bank is giving off a power but if this controller we're charging there would be a glowing yellow light here so something's basically wrong obviously neither controllers not charging or it's not holding charge you know one of the first things to try out you know a lot of videos will mention this and a lot of forums and stuff went out so the first thing to try out when you have this issue is take like a paper clip or something super thin you're gonna take a look at the back of this controller you're gonna see right here there's a little hole you're gonna insert this you'll hear like a little click you'll actually feel it push in and hold that for maybe 5 seconds or so and then release there's also some other videos that say you have to hold the PlayStation button and do it - but I don't really see how that anyways I guess if you're desperate you'll try it try those two things out first sometimes the reset will help and then try charging in unfortunately for me that didn't fix the issue yeah so if I plug this guy back in you see again that is charging here but the actual controller is holding the charge and I mean you also want to try you know in the outlet you can try in the ps4 USB outlet you can try it up against the wall I've tried all of those already and still nothing and I've actually already kind of figured out the issue so now we're going to take apart this controller or I guess open it up so before getting started I wanted to just make sure that I had like a little towel or like a microfiber cloth underneath so that way I can avoid some scratches and stuff so basically we're gonna take a screwdriver it's going to be a crosshead it's gonna be a lot tinier or thinner then like a regular cross head that you use for like hardware stuff I got this off eBay it was like a dollar 97 I could link it in description if you want this is gonna be like any type of screwdriver that comes from a iPhone screen repair kit or something like that so anyways we're gonna flip over the controller and we're gonna see that there are four screws to take out so it's gonna be one at the top over here on the right one the opposite side on the left one at the bottom and another at the bottom so we're just gonna take those guys out so be careful with these screws you don't want to strip them I actually noticed that these screws had some kind of you know like it had some wear on it so be careful I mean someone basically opened it up before me but be careful because you can't rip these and that'll just make your life harder set those guys aside and now to take out this the very first time it will be difficult because you're gonna have to go around and pry in between so I've already taken it off so it's kind of loosely already kind of coming off but you're gonna want to take something like that's plastic like a plastic pry tool again this would come like an iphone repair kit or even like a plastic spudger maybe even a couple of them so what I originally did is I took this guy I ran around the side all around and then even through here this is where it kind of it's stuck together the most you want to go in between you want to go in between right over there where the extension and the microphone jack is so you're going to come in this way it's gonna come off like that same coming all the way around so what I had to do initially I'm telling you guys is because it was frustrating at first so the first time you take it off you'll have to kind of maybe hold something hold a tool in there on one spot and then continue prying on the other spot so we can keep the leverage there but once you do get that off you're gonna want to be careful when you open it it is kind of like hinged on you can want to kind of let the l2 r2 buttons come out let's see let me open it this way okay so basically you see that ribbon cable right there that's where my issue I believe is so let me slowly take this off take it apart so you want to be careful your ribbon cable may be the issue so okay let's see how can I explain this when I first opened this up this cable was completely broken and separated the cable was bent four times over usually ribbon cables are super delicate things one little bend will screw it up completely so you want to avoid as many bends and twists and turns as you can this one was broken off completely so what I did is I've actually put some superglue I tried to get it back on to see if it would work I didn't expect it to because you do have to solder contact points back on so basically let me see if I can get a little closer here so I can show you guys so there's the one ribbon cable comes in this way you have kind of like a plastic glue tab right there you can grab on to it and pull up and then this comes off and then you can even set this guy aside so now let's take a look at this top part so this basically is where your your little LED light is and your charging port is so that little board right there that's for the charging port there's a ribbon cable that connects to it on the side so like I said this part was completely broken off when I open this so there was no way for the actual controller to charge let me open it up and then I'll show you guys what I mean by when I try to superglue it and put it together so to take this off we're going to kind of lift up on the right side right here for this plastic part you do want to be careful with what type of controller type you have I believe the earlier types they actually have screws on holding this down so you're going to want to take those screws off first and then lift it up so remove that to the side and then this little plastic part it's just held on by the little plastic tabs so you just kind of got a lift it up and then you can actually push the little LED light Frogger thing whatever back from the other side with my I did it with my finger and then that comes out over there so now you have just the board right there and it's all only being held in by that single screw just let me go ahead take that guy out okay outside to the side so now see if I can kind of push this and work this guy out so this is what I'm working with right here there's another blue tab on this side of the ribbon cable that you can actually also pull so this is the ribbon can you can see that it really is twisted and neglected and really to be honest this can already alone be one issue the fact that the cable is just bent up but I know that my other issue came from the actual board so if you look very closely this port this area I don't know if I can get it to focus so here's a better shot using my iPhone so that way we can actually get it to focus and you can see this is that little port for the ribbon cable there's a little slot on the side and so right now you can also see the dried up leftover a hot glue gun and I guess stuff it's what's holding the port on it's in place otherwise it would have it was basically off or broken off completely so this white part right here that's just like the light the LED that's where the blue light the red light all that comes from and it just kind of projects forward and then so this sort of guy right here that's where the ribbon cable inserts into and it should be it should be soldered onto the board there are contact points I try to line up with on the contact points and I use a hot glue gun kind of hold it in place unfortunately that didn't change or making make a difference I think it's just because you know even if it's hot glue gun Don it's not soldered back on so the connection isn't so good so basically you'll need to replace this so now the part for replacement I actually ordered it and it just came in today I on eBay it was like four bucks shipped and everything it comes with the cable there are sons that don't come with the cable so I figured that even if the hot glue gun did fix this maybe the kill the cable itself you know was another issue so I got one with the cable and the actual part another thing you want to be aware of is there are four different iterations of this little board I think they were called like JDM ten JDM twenty JDM 30 and JDM 40 but never mind not JDM so this says it might not focus but right over here on this side it says JD s dash zero three zero that's the type of board that I got the replacement for for the previous versions of this there's actually two screws and the boards are a little bigger when you open up your controller you'll actually be able to see on the board itself what type that you had so you can order the replacement part just look for the JD s zero whatever zero I will link in the description this exact one that I bought so in case you guys are looking for it maybe have the same controller let's open this up the only thing I'm concerned about is this ribbon cable is super straight and I know that to install it if there's gonna be a few bends and I'm not too sure about bending and I don't want it to become all twisted and contorted one nice thing about this little piece right here this one has a little latch whereas the original one did not have a latch it was just kind of like a slide at end type of thing so let's lift up this latch first the fourteen pin I believe this one is a 12 pin so that's just something to keep in mind that's a latch up there we go and so just kind of use a little blue reinforced strip to slide it in you'll feel it going a little but it's not gonna just being a lot from the side then once that's in just going to close down that latch there we go now let the latch on and I'll give it like a very gentle tug it does feel to be enclosed on so this is going to go down facing this way and you'll see basically the little micro USB port so that's going to go down facing this way onto the controller so if I bring that guy back this will basically sit in this way I'm gonna get the screw put it back on after I've lined up the board my ass okay go right down there and put this down so again the other two are the other two types of boards they will have two screws this one has one and like a little plastic place holder or support right there so I'm not gonna tighten that too much just enough and then I believe what was next here so I'm gonna push that I'm gonna feel that click back in it's going to be flush along this right here and then I'm going to put this back on as you can see mine is correct I think that should be okay I might have some mic distortion in the lighting and I'm just going to put this little latch guy back on and again this one does not have screws yours may have screws if it does make sure to take those on and put those back off this one just kind of clicks in the pit place so that's basically that right there oh this cable right here has to go into that guy right there this one just put it in and then see what happens there's a blue tab that I can use to support that as it goes in okay okay like that l-3 button clicking okay so now that's in I'm scared to just push it down like that so I feel like maybe there should be a few more bends or something basically when you do put the controller back on make sure this is gonna go in the center between the l2 and r2 buttons nicely and then come back around and kind of make sure these guys are behind ah see if you don't do it right you'll have your l2 or r2 trigger button kind of get messed up so make sure this guy's in first and then try to get that guy to fit kind of like that like line these up first on the l2 and r2 side and then make sure these things fit so that's the new cable I mean that's basically on all I have to do now is put on the screws so before that I guess oh oh okay so this is the moment of truth right here cables work in I don't know I think that means it's looking for something so let me try to charge it to see what happens holy crap I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl right now so if we see a yellow light that means we are charging again and there it is but there is a yellow light so basically it looks like it's gonna work out I think I have a little bit of distortion in the color right there and that's following me because of the crack so now I'm gonna finish the job I'm going to button up the rest of the screws or the rest of the actual controller and then we're gonna go ahead and move over to the PlayStation 4 see if this controller is able to be read so again while that guy is charging this is the older part I will have them linked in the description so you can buy yours five bucks or four bucks is a lot easier to dish out then another like 50 bucks for these controllers this is my little makeshift setup I can already smell the envy but yeah so we got the ps4 set up and the TV hooked up to it right now I have my regular controller with my original working controller that would be this guy right here and so you can kind of I get to tell by these little thumb grips they also has like a little Nightwing thing and then I have the controller that we repaired right over here so this is the repaired controller this is my original I know it may not show on the camera but this one's a little more glossy ER so I think it's part of the the very first launch ps4 whereas this one's kind of a less glossy it's a little more like smooth or matte but anyway so this is one that we repaired and so I'm going to go ahead and try to hook it up to the ps4 okay so now we can see the yellow so now you can see the yellow coming in and out and so I'm going to push the PS button so it can sync with the system alright there it is so now it's asking me to prompt the user so I'm going to click my brother's account and now looks like yeah the controller's working so I press the PS button and now I end up in my brother's account and it says that the battery is charged so it does not need to really be charged I did leave it sitting on the little portable power bag for some time so basically that's it if you have a charging problem with your ps4 the charging port may be one of the issues so I hope this video helped you fix your controller get it to working it again and I'd you liked the video please leave a like and maybe subscribe I'll see you guys the next one take it easy
