How to remove password on a restricted editing word document

hey guys today we're going to be looking at a 2016 word document um it is password protected in the sense that you can't make style changes uh font sizes things of that nature so it's basically locked that way i can still open up the document but as you can see if i want to change this to blue color or change the font size it's everything's locked because whoever has this document enabled restricted editing on it uh with the password so to unlock it you know we would need to know that password but we don't know what that password is um so to remove this password uh it's very simple you can just go to file save as browse to our desktop here and save it as an xml hit save now close out of this document take the xml file right click it and you can use any text editor i'm using notepad plus plus in this instance and we're going to do ctrl f and we're going to find this right here so w colon enforcement equals and the reason why we're not doing equals parentheses on one is because over time in updates they've changed this from usually it's a one or a zero to now it's on or off so if you hit find next you can see enforcement's right here if we just change that to zero and like i said if you have on then change it to off if you have one change it to zero just depends on the version of office you have so go ahead and hit save go and close out of our notepad plus plus open up that xml file you can see now we can make any changes we want so now let's say this back to docx and save close and then now you can see we have our new test.docx file go ahead and open that up and here now you can make any changes you want you can change the font the restrictions are now off so there you guys have it it's that easy you
