hello everybody jiu-jitsu mm here welcome back behind me I have a propane stove burning see that flame the flame is really died down and this propane bottle is about to run out so my objective of the video today is to talk about what do we do with these propane bottles once they've ran out because the reality is these things are starting to get expensive now I've seen them anywhere from 3 dollars up to 6 dollars a piece so I want to share with you some techniques that I like to use to refill these when they run out now the first thing that I want to recommend as always with my videos is safety ok so safety glasses right and good ventilation because this thing is made out of what metal yeah and when metal explodes and it flies through the air what does it become a bullet a projectile we don't want that hitting us that could cause problems I've never seen one of these explode but we are going to be charging these things with pressure and we're going to be refilling them so why not wear safety glasses ok what if there's a chance that one-in-a-million chance that it blows up you'd be glad that you had your safety glasses on so again safety glasses and good ventilation ok now the first thing they have to do is absolutely without a doubt I have to make sure that this flame goes out that this thing is completely empty so I'm just going to let that sit there in the back and burn in the meantime I'm going to read this can hear and see if I see anything about if you can refill them or not some people say you're not supposed to I don't see anything on this okay never refill this cylinder refilling may cause explosion federal law for forbids transportation if refilled so we're not going to transport these right we're just going to refill them and use them right here penalty up to $500,000 $500,000 fine and or five years in prison Wow just for refilling these if you transport them so with that being said I hope you hear that okay you're not supposed to refill them and transfer them now one of the things that you're going to need to refill these is this valve okay what what it has on this end is the standard threads that fits these propane bottles okay standard threads on the other end you have the left handed threads or backwards threads counterclockwise to tighten okay these threads fit into the propane bottle okay another thing that you might need I have a big crescent wrench so I can tighten that in so I'm waiting for this to die as soon as it dies I'm going to go show you the next step this thing is just about to die so I'm just going to wait a couple more minutes let it die okay my canisters right here and it's ran out of gas so in my hand I have a small screwdriver now what I want to do is with this port facing away from me I'm just going to stick a screwdriver in a well-ventilated area and push this valve it's kind of the same as the valve on a tire like a valve stem here that and I'm just getting rid of all of the pressure in that tank okay now we're empty so from here I'm going to take these and I'm going to put them in the freezer for at least 15 minutes okay in the meantime while I'm waiting for those to get nice and cool I'm going to get my propane bottle ready I hope you can see that let me change my camera angle a bit okay so I'm going to take my attachment right here and I'm going to put it into the propane bottle I'm going to turn it counterclockwise make sure this valve is off and don't turn this valve on while this attachments in okay so I have a nice big crescent wrench here I'm just going to tighten that baby in it doesn't have to be gorilla tighten you with the wrench this big you got plenty of leverage there's no need and cranking it down so I have this installed again if I turn this on you know you can tell that it'll leak so don't turn the valve on so from here I'm just going to wait wait 15 minutes and then I'll be back with those bottles and fill them okay here's the propane bottle you can see it's nice and chilled it's been in the freezer for about thirty minutes I'm going to go ahead and put it on to the bottle and from here I'm going to tip the bottle upside down this is a heavy one too I didn't have a 20 gallon or 20 pound I mean now one thing that I noticed people do is they'll stand right in front of it or they'll put their face right in front of it and then they'll open the valve very quickly I recommend pointing the the object away from you and opening the valve very slowly you hear that I'm just going to wait for approximately a minute or until I hear the sound stop I think it's my connection that's leaking that I hear so this is a very patient process you know don't open the valve very fast open it real slow let the thing kind of go into the tank the reason these have to be cold is so they'll accept the propane a lot better okay so about a minute and I think we're probably done and the reason we have to put the tank upside down is because this propane is liquid now I'm going to go ahead and flip this back up now making sure that the valve is closed I'm going to disconnect the bottle from the tank and you'll hear you'll hear like a little sound right there and this tank is full now what you want to do from here is make sure that it's not leaking this little valve right here is for letting air out of the propane tank so sometimes some people would fill these and they would pull with needlenose pliers they get something like this and they would hook onto this little valve stem inside and they would pull it away and when they pull it away it lets pressure out of the tank okay now the reason they want pressure out of the tank is because they want to increase the amount of liquid propane that they get into the bottle don't mess with this okay this could be dangerous so if you have some soap and water like dish soap and some water about 50/50 mix make some good suds spray it around this area you know you can spit on it to shake it and you'll hear the propane inside plus you'll feel the weight of the canister tells you that it's full so now we have a a filled propane bottle one more thing I want to mention is these small plastic caps okay I like to put them on top here just to protect the threads protect the bottle make sure of things okay okay so last but not least you know when when you get these full you have a full propane bottle that you're not paying $3 or $4 five or six dollars for you're paying depending on fuel prices anywhere from forty five cents to seventy five cents per bottle so another thing to think about is don't throw these away when you use them you know you have a brand new one like I had earlier remember where I put it but you have something like this when it runs out don't throw it away save it throw it in the freezer refill it you know if you don't have any but you do have this and you do have this attachment and you don't have any bottles go to your local camp uh what do you call it uh campground and look in the trash and I guarantee you you're going to find some of these okay so that's it that's an area where you can find propane bottles and so now you've seen how I fill them again safety first ventilation safety glasses this could be a projectile if it explodes and you don't want that coming into your eyes you only get one set of eyes you might as well wear those glasses as much as possible yes I know I look funny in them but I have both eyes and look at how pretty they are so again everybody I want to say thank you for watching please feel free to comment share subscribe thumbs up thumbs down whatever you got to do I appreciate you watching and stay safe when you fill these bottles and until next time take it easy we'll see you later here we go ready rock and roll bye-bye everybody have a good night
