Curious how much he spent on copper. Probably enough to just buy a pre assembled unit.

Because of the cost of copper, I'd go with black polyethylene pipe in a coiled arrangement. They're easy to construct, relatively cheap and still very effective. The plastic will eventually degrade but it should still get many years of service

Here's an example of a simple setup. Could be put in to a glass enclosed box also

i see tons of work was put into this project, and have a few suggestions if you decide to build one yourself.

• first off the water flow on these was poorly designed. cold water in through the bottom and hot out through the top, helps with normal flow and heating in a closed system like this.
• second thing is the amount of copper. this is TONS of copper to use and is not cheap at all. fusing the copper pipe to a cheaper sheet of metal would be just fine, paint it as you see in the video.
• third thing is that the tubes that were soldered to the sheet were placed inwards. you want as much surface area towards the sun as possible and placing the pipes out would be more efficient.
• fourth thing is this the lack of glass over the units. glass helps keep the heat contained inside the box, preventing wind from stripping away your heat in cold conditions.

i do not mean to only point out the flaws, but with a large scale project like this you would want to think things out before starting.
