hey guys la gets real hot so in this video I'm gonna show you how watering your fruit trees helps the drought so don't let your investment shrivel up why are your trees right and reduce your water bill the fruit stitute works in backyards all over Los Angeles one of the most common issues that cause poor tree health and low fruit production is improper irrigation more often than not your trees are being under water and here's Johanna founder of the fruits the two roots do a few things the big fatter roots anchor the tree in the ground and store nutrients and then find feeder roots those are the absorbent roots that take water and nutrients up from the soil those are the roots that we need to water on young trees the feeder roots are located closer to the root ball which is the planting hole so right around here each year as the tree grows larger you want to extend your drip line to water those absorb emerge as they grow out after your tree is established your feeder roots are located at your canopy drip line and slightly beyond your canopy drip line is the edge of your canopy so you want to water as much of your root zone the area under your canopy as possible coming as far out to your drip line and even slightly beyond you never want to water the trunk or directly on it or close to it because that can cause your trunk to rock deep-water to truly saturate your soil it's best achieved with the long slow flow this can be accomplished with drip line irrigation [Music] for trees and containers water on a slow flow until you see water coming out the bottom of the container this leeches excess salts and thoroughly saturates the root ball the amount of water a tree needs is depending on many factors including age species soil type weather and time of year there's no one-size-fits-all for irrigation irrigation needs vary by microclimate and equipment and everything in between in general it takes 20 to 40 minutes of deep watering to thoroughly saturate your soil and hit those absorbent roots so really the best way to know when and how to irrigate is to check your soil moisture periodically you want to dig down at least 3 inches deep into your soil in the trees root zone and check to see how moist it is if it's too wet you need to decrease irrigation if it's too dry you need to increase you always want your soil to feel moist thanks so much for watching if you want to learn more about deep watering click the link below [Music] you [Music]
