let's learn some practice techniques to make you faster in ACC let's go okay where should we practice well we can practice in a couple of places number one we can use the single player mode now one thing I want to get out of the way before we even get into where to practice is I want to tell you where you shouldn't practice now on the screen here you can see we're in single player game mode you should not practice in hot lap mode not at all now hot lap mode is basically only there so that you can get the best time possible for uh basically you just want to see how fast you can go hot lap mode the reason we don't want to practice there is because the tires reset every single lap a hot lap mode will not be able to tell you what your setup is going to do three four five six laps down the road so it's only for one lap and one lap only so that's why I recommend going into practice mode okay set your time I don't know whenever you want mid-afternoon if you're in a league A lot of the times they tell you at what time of day what time of day in game the race is taking place so we can actually set it up you know day night what whatever whatever time it is you can also set up your weather conditions as well so a lot of leagues if you're in a league will tell you even lfm if you're doing lfm races if you're doing the lfm pro race or uh or or you're doing the endurance races whatever you're doing there usually they tell you uh roughly like how much cloud cover there is uh what the uh Ambient Air Temperature is you can set all that up in this screen right here however I do suggest that you try to practice on an action actual open server now if you're in a league there are usually usually those leagues provide practice servers right so we can go to our server list we can type in our league so for instance I'm in this league here so there it is and uh we're practicing or we're racing at Silverstone on Tuesday night here's my Silverstone server so I can go in there now what are the advantages of practicing on a server a lot of the times what they're going to do is the server is going to be somewhat close to the conditions that you will be racing in uh in on in your league race another positive is if there's other people on track uh they could be if it's an open server it could be anybody but if it's a closed League server you could have your other competitors there and if you want to see how fast they're going also you can also click on their name and then you can actually kind of you know stalk them and you can see what they're doing what are they doing better than you so those are all advantages that we have I always like to start off with hot lapping try to get some laps under your belt so first thing I want to do is I want to load a setup so depending on uh where you are in your ACC skill set or what setups you have you can do your safe preset your aggressive preset whatever you want or if you have purchased a setup pack from one of the uh set up companies you can choose whatever you want there okay now uh for me I've already started making a setup for my next race so I'm going to load that up and then what I'm going to do is I want to set the fuel now I want to do I want to do about three to four laps uh three to four hot laps that way I can set my tire pressures and I want to have fuel that's associated with those three or four laps I don't want to over fuel the car for this because I want to see what my outright pace is to start with so you know depending on the car you know 13 14 liters something like that you're gonna have to see how many laps you can get out of whatever car you're driving so once we have that we're going to get out on track let's go all right so out on track we want to do some hot lapping we want to do as many laps as you need to get consistent and be able to you know do a lap after lap with the same with roughly with the same lap time and get to a point where you think you probably at this point in your skill set can't really go any faster once you've done that then we can move on to uh getting ready for the race so something I want to add you can also at this point in the juncture you can also try to tweak your setup a little bit but if you're you know if you're not a top player you know you're just a casual player sometimes it's best just to kind of leave your setup because you will honestly you'll gain more time just from doing laps uh rather than doing two or three hot laps coming in adjusting the setup and then going back out doing other two or three laps and then getting frustrated with it so just do your hot laps and then we'll get into the next one which is the race stint okay so before we can get into our race stint we need to know a couple of pieces of pieces of information because we need to calculate how much fuel you're going to need for that race so number one how long is the race that you're going to be going the race I'll be doing is 60 minutes and it has one pit stop so therefore I need to know how much fuel my car uses per lap now this is where you can take the information from your hot lapping session and then you can go down into this area right here so the car this is again after you've done a few laps if you just go in and haven't done any laps this number won't be correct okay so make sure you've gone and done a few laps and let the car uh calculate how much fuel it's using per lap and then you're gonna take this number and then you're gonna go to this website here Link in the description okay so here we are on the Sim racing fuel calculator I'm going to put the link in the description this is the one that I've been using now I've never been let down by this uh uh website it's usually always calculated my fuel pretty well uh other than I find that it sometimes over fuels me a little bit uh for a race I usually end up with eight or nine liters more and ideally you want to have a little bit less but honestly take it from me it's better to have a little bit more than a little bit less I wrecked a whole qualifying session and and started 12 13 steps or 12 or 13 grid places back at Masano in the lfm Pro Race last week if you saw the stream you'll know how uh how distraught I was from that so take a little bit more fuel be a little bit safer you know give up that maybe half a tenth a lap or whatever but either way here we go so we know that the race that I am going to be in is going to be 60 minutes so let's put in 60 minutes now take your lap time from your uh hot lapping session and take a little bit of time off of it because if you put in exactly the lap times that you're doing in hot lapping you might not have enough fuel to get to the end of the race okay so in Silverstone I've been practicing and up until now I'm I'm doing uh I'm doing High 57s mid to high 57s so I'm gonna put in uh let's say my average hot lapping lap was 57.8 uh I will put in 58.8 so I'm going to roughly go about a second less than what I was doing and then Fuel per lap it said that I was averaging a boat uh 3.55 and then it'll calculate it here at the bottom so the next thing you have to know is does your series have a full formation lap so therefore you're going to be going around on the racetrack a complete lap before you get the green flag if not then you can use the recommended fuel amount you can uh do this down here if you're just doing uh if you're just starting the race you know with one or two corners uh before okay so that is calculating your fuel now let's input that into our uh race setup and then we'll do a uh race stint okay so now we have our fuel calculated so it said we needed 118 laps to be safe uh with a full formation lap so I know I have a pit stop where I have to get fuel it's a 60 Minute race so let's just uh split that in half now it all depends on what fuel strategy you want to do if you want to do an over an undercut over cut whatever but just for the sake of this video Let's just split it 100 in half and we need 59 liters for our first stint okay so uh that is going to be the stint that we're going to do so 59 liters that should get us through about 30 minutes of driving time now while you're in this screen already you might as well go ahead and start uh already adjusting your pit stop strategy all right so we know that we need 59 liters for 30 minutes of uh for a 30 minute stint so number of pit stops one we're gonna add at that pit stop we're also going to add 59 liters and now since you've already got your tire pressures roughly set through your or hot lapping mode it's not going to be exactly the same in your race mode because you're gonna pressures are going to uh vary a little bit vary a little bit but either way we can get in the ballpark okay so we can use our current pressures and there we go and then I would go ahead and then I would save that to my file I'm not going to do that right now and then off we go and then we can get ourselves on track we can do a 30 minute stint and this is also right at the end of your stint this is where you can practice your pit stop and then you can see where the line is where you need to be going exactly the uh the pit lane speed and we can kind of kill two birds with one stone here now the thing is we're using our qualifying tire pressures now this might vary a little bit like I said before with our race stint so you might have to go out and do a few Laps on race fuel come back in and then adjust your tire pressures as necessary and remember we want to have an ideal tire pressure when they're hot after about three to four laps around 26.6 6 to 26.7 psi that's our that's our ideal pressure all right let's go do our hot stint something I want to add about picking which setup now the thing is there are different setups there's quality setups there's race setups if you're fairly new to ACC or you're not overly experienced in the game I would honestly pick a race setup something that's safe and easy to drive and use that for both qualifying and race that way you know what to expect there's no variables that can change so I would do the I I would do it that way obviously the more advanced players will we will have a Quality quality setup and a race set up the quality setup all that it really is is that it is a little bit more aggressive you can get a little bit more lap time out of it the only problem with it is is it will tear up the tires quicker which doesn't matter in qualifying but it will matter over us over a uh a 30 45 minute stint so definitely uh if you're new or you know up to intermediate casual player pick a nice safe setup and go with that and use it for both quality qualification and race all right we've done our hot stint now so now we're going to go ahead and we're going to use a very effective tool that's available to us we're going to watch our replay and we can use different camera angles to be able to uh see what we're doing wrong in areas we need to improve on let's go all right use your replay to your advantage I would put it in this view right here as you can see because now you can really see you know are you using enough of the track limits you can also see if you're over braking under braking and uh you can see that if you're doing the right lines you know there I could have cut the corner much much more going in here I definitely could have cut the corner much much more there and also here as well so this is an obviously an extremely bad lap of misano but um it's very very useful tool and not to mention if you're in an open server when there's where there's other cars there and if you've saved the replay you can actually go back and you can actually see the other cars uh replays as well um and if they're faster than you that really really helps you now you can also go back into the view that you're racing so this is the view that I like to race in with no steering wheel because it basically is like a one to one I have my steering wheel right here and my dashboard is right in front of me this is the view I like to use and then now you can actually sit back in a relaxed fashion and actually see what you did wrong I mean a lot of times when you're driving you can see what you've done wrong but now you have a lot more time to analyze so we can even put this into slow a little bit slower motion and we can actually see what we're doing wrong and we can see our steering inputs right so there's a lot of things that we can do with this replay very useful tool use it you will learn a lot once you've done your race stint and you've reviewed your race stint with the replay we can now go ahead and go back to hot lapping mode put your quality fuel back in 13 14 liters depending on which car it is and go back out and do some laps because now that you're in the groove I guarantee you you will probably end up going faster now you're going to need a couple of laps to adjust because now you got fresh tires again and you're back down to a lower fuel load which will make the car react a little bit differently but do this you will probably go faster and it will build your confidence because like anything else that you do in life confidence is a good amount of that battle if you go into something without confidence you're not going to do as well as if you went in there with a full amount of confidence and then you get to see that lap time you get to see that Delta go into the Green in the top left hand corner it's almost like a drug you know we're getting high off of it and we can use that to our advantage for our next practice session all right practicing in the rain is a super important thing to do because again the server can all of a sudden in your race just switch to rain so we need to uh know a few things about that what setup should you use well there is the wet preset setup that you could use uh right from kunos it's not the good it's not that great guys okay another thing that we can use for setup we can use if you have a setup pack uh some setup packs come with a uh a a wet setup as well but this I would more use if you know it's going to rain the entire race the problem is you're gonna probably run into some changing conditions so I would just use the setup that you were using and then we would have to raise the tire pressures now we want hot tire pressures to be around the 30 to 31 PSI range the reason you want more tire pressure in a rain situation is because you don't want the tire to deform as much because the tread needs to stay intact and that we don't want those Treads to close off because if the Treads close off then it can't whisk away the water as much okay so let's let's go out and we're going to use this setup the only thing I would do is I would change the electronics a little bit I might opt the TC a little bit now I can do this on track on my steering wheel because I have the buttons mapped and then I will also probably turn down the ABS a little bit but I want to see how it goes when I'm out there all right let's get on track all right here we are on track I can't see anything don't forget your windshield wipers guys map a button on your steering wheel or on your keyboard that you know where it is that you can get to that windshield wiper going all right also we will also need to probably turn on our lights as well whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa see that's why you practice in the rain all right lights are on windshield wipers are on let's learn some of these uh uh braking markers you cannot break as late as you would in the dry however you can use a lot of the same line in the wet and ACC because that is one of the physics drawbacks is they don't really have a wet line because in real life the wet line would be on the the outside of the racetrack all right but here we can still use the regular dry line we can also learn which curves can we touch and which curves we can't that one we can't touch as you can see all right let's get it reset all right now I like to turn down the ABS uh down to one in this situation because the lower the ABS the less our braking uh breaking distance will be I know it's kind of counterintuitive you would think that you would want more ABS with uh these uh with with these types of conditions but for some reason an ACC I found that less ABS is better in the rain now it all depends on your skill set too right guys if you're like kind of brand new to this game um I would suggest maybe using the wet preset like the default wet preset because you might not be able to handle this I mean even I have a hard time doing this I am not the greatest wet weather driver in ACC uh mind you because I just haven't practiced enough of it all right so learning which curves you can hit which apexes we need to hit should we go a little bit wider break earlier except like our acceleration how much because this is all this is already a tricky turn in the dry so we'll definitely have to take it easy in the wet so that's basically practicing in the wet just keep going and going around and around and around and there's some setup changes you can make like maybe lowering the anti-roll bars and but I don't like changing the setup Too Much from the dry setup only because more than likely you're going to end up driving in mixed conditions and it might dry out and then if you're on a full wet setup it starts to dry out 10 minutes into a one hour race you're screwed so definitely try to see if you can make your dry setup work in the rain just by making driving driving adjustments you can maybe make you know Minor Adjustments you know like especially if you're on big tracks like spa or Monza you might not want to run One Wing on the McLaren you might maybe want to bump that up to you know three or four Wing uh just so that you can actually get around the racetrack so you're gonna have to play with that but either way that's basically what we're after it's not rocket science get out there drive the car the more laps you do the easier it is another good thing to do is once you're done all your practicing and if you're fairly new to ACC or you haven't had much time racing with other cars on the track that you're going to be racing at might be a good idea to go to your single player mode go to Quick race set up a race whatever you want you know you can do it at the full race length if you want to do a full race stint if you have the time and uh and then I would set the you know your aggressiveness of your opponent maybe your opponent's skill things like that to your skill set and then go ahead and go out and do that race our AI racing is an excellent tool to use especially if you're not overly you know familiar with ACC or don't have a lot of experience with Sim racing I mean it's not like it's not quite the same thing as driving online with actual like real people but it can give you a good idea what to expect you know what is the first Corner going to be like on this very first lap when you go into the corner with 22 cars all right you can also practice you know braking a little bit earlier so we don't end up plowing the entire grid and then we can practice racing with other cars now the AI and ACC is about the greatest one it's not the worst either right but it gives us a good indication of what to expect right like some corners on some tracks are extremely difficult to navigate on the first flying lap because you have no idea where they're gonna break are people going to dive bomb people you know all those sorts of things and it just gives you practice to be able to race with other cars try to get side by side with them you can even get your safety rating up in the game right because some lobbies that you race uh on you need a certain safety rating to race and you know what just racing and even just getting close behind the cars in front of you even in AI mode uh we'll get your uh you you will get increased safety rating especially if you're trying to get that lfm license you need you you you need a certain safety rating to get that lfm license and uh just driving AI races are probably the easiest way to do it and also sometimes it's just fun to race with AI right we don't always need to go racing online right this whole world has gone to online everything but I grew up in a time where video games didn't have online and I just played against the computer you know my very first time Sim racing uh it was on a controller obviously was on took a race driver 3. probably my favorite uh racing game of all time on PlayStation two and all I did was do the career mode and play against Ai and I had a and I had a freaking blast and I learned a lot about how to how to race side by side with cars on a video game because racing side by side on a video game is a lot different than in real life one of the biggest things I want to bring up is with practicing don't go out and do a thousand hot laps get frustrated and then you just end up giving up and then moving on the biggest thing with practicing is do what I just told you to do maybe not do you don't have to do all of it right you don't have to go through uh racing with the AI or doing the rain uh practice but go out do your hot lapping do one 30 minute stint or whatever you know whatever the minute or whatever the amount of time that you need to do is for the race that you're setting up for it could be a 45 minute snip because it could be a 90 minute race okay it could even be just a 25 minute race if you're just doing an lfm race but either way go out do that stint and if you're still feeling good keep going but the second you start feeling frustrated move on let it go turn the game off go upstairs if it's if it's in the evening go to sleep the next day I guarantee you're gonna wake up and you're gonna go quicker it happened to me the other day now Silverstone is not my is not my strongest track in the world um I I've always been in the 58 one minute 58's there which is not overly quick but it's not slow either but I've always wanted to get into the elusive 57 range now in the Ferrari I was able to do like mid 57s but with the McLaren for some reason I was struggling getting the 57s and I just couldn't get there I was like 580 58085 58.000 like 58 flat and then I went to bed the next morning not the next morning the next afternoon I went downstairs on my third lap the tires weren't even 100 up to temperature yet and bang 57 8 and that's it you know so it can go that quickly all right guys well thank you so much for watching if you enjoyed this in any way shape or form please hit that like button subscribe comment please tune in to some of my streams I'm going to be streaming every uh Tuesday night at uh 8 30 p.m Eastern and every Thursday at 2 p.m eastern time and uh just keep your watch out for more videos have have a good one guys we'll see you on the next one bye thank you thank you [Music]
