[Music] thank you hey guys today I'm going to be showing you how to play the goat riff it's a super fun riff so let's go ahead and get right into it first off it's based around this General Melody played by the bells [Music] and it's outlined by these bass notes foreign [Music] if you ever find yourself getting lost with the intricacies of this riff just remember that it's based around that very simple eighth note Melody so the easiest way to go about learning this riff is to split it up into different phrases so we're going to go ahead and start with this first phrase [Music] so the first note that you're going to hit is going to be the seventh fret of the low E string and you're also going to hybrid pick the open B with your middle finger so it sounds like this and you're going to slide down while letting this ring [Music] and once you reach down here you're going to take your ring finger on the second fret of the high E string slide all the way up to the 12th fret we're then going to harmonic the 12th fret of the B string so it looks like [Music] and then you're going to hit the ninth fret of the low E string and then the 12th fret harmonic of the G string so it looks like and then from here you're going to hit the fourth fret of the a string and the sixth fret of the B string and slide up to the fifth and seventh Frets so the whole phrase looks like the next phrase that we're going to hit is going to be this triplet tapping lick which looks like [Music] so basically you're and that's going to be the seventh fret of the D string and the tenth fret of b string and you're going to slide up to the ninth fret and the 12th fret then you're going to tap the 20th fret on the B string and you're going to hold all of these notes together while you hammer on the 10th fret of the low E string foreign the second part of this triplet lick is going to be 9 and 12 on the D and B string sliding up to 12 and 15. and then you're going to tap 17 and then pull off to open open B so the whole thing and then you're going to come down here [Music] and harmonic the seventh Frets of the g b and e strings okay so for this next phrase while you still have these harmonics ringing you're going to hit the third fret so it looks like foreign so after you're going to come up to the ninth fret of the a string and octave with the 11th fret on the G string in the recording I go and I slide between the nine and the ten um live I don't because it's hard and I'd rather not so you can skip that or you can do it but you're then going to hit which is going to be seven seven harmonics on the B and G and then the 12 harmonic on the B so the next note is going to be 9 on the low E harmonic 12 on the G it's a very similar to which was four and six on the A and B sliding to five and seven instead of that you're going to do three and six sliding to four and seven and you're also going to be able to let every single one of these notes ring because you get this really nice dissonant cord [Music] [Applause] so you're going to hit that's open E hybrid pick take the seven of the B and then you're going to add the sixth fret on the low E [Applause] and then you're going to come up here and hit so that's going to be 7 on the G string sliding down to six open B hybrid picked and then you're going to pick the eighth fret of the D string [Music] and now we're right back where we started on the seventh fret of below E and the hybrid picked open B [Music] okay so for this next phrase it's very very similar to the first phrase which was only the timing is slightly different [Music] thank you if you've watched my video the making of goat I talk about how I made a happy accident by copying and pasting the first phrase into the wrong spot which ended up giving it a bit of syncopation um and made the phrase more interesting so instead of going you're going to add in front of it so just which is seven seven harmonic on the B and G and it's the same phrase and now we come upon the most challenging but also fun part of this entire riff the sextuplet lick so you're going to do which is the same thing as the other lick seven side to six on the G string hybrid pick the open E down pick the eighth fret of the D string then you're going to hammer on the a string and then you're going to slide up to the tenth fret and then you're going to pick the ninth fret of the D string and then here we've got 12 12 harmonic harmonic harmonic on the G B and E and then you're going to come up and play which is 12 14 15. this chord is 15 14. and then 16 on the D string [Applause] [Music] and then you're going to slide directly into our last phrase foreign [Music] which is exactly the same as the time that it happened before the only difference being you're going to add the open B string hybrid picked with that three on the low E [Applause] [Music] and live I like to dive bomb there it's really fun okay thank you guys so much for watching that is
