hey guys I'm Nolan and today I'm going to show you to do a complete DIY paint job all the way from sanding to painting also I'm really trying to grow my Instagram account DIY underscore civic if you want to give me a fall I really appreciate it I'll link my Instagram in the description the tools you're gonna need for sanding hand sander you're gonna want some automotive grit so you start off at 80 grit then to 180 then to 40 then 320 and then at 400 grit for protection all you're really gonna need is a mask you can use goggles if you want i sanded this thing down and I don't have any issue with getting dust on my eyes so whatever you guys whatever you guys think for those sanding elections like you can't go any look at dis sander or poem sander it's gonna save you a lot of time and effort Oh like a bigger bar sander I guess well like cover more surface area but for the little spaces you're gonna do something smaller okay so when you're sanding you go in like a crosshatch position so back and forth doing the whole thing evenly and you don't want swirl marks you might have a crosshatch so you get all of it I really want to stress that this is the first time I've ever tried that painted car I've never had any automotive body work experience before I just really wanted to change how my car look the clear coat on mine was debating like crazy and I don't know people were looking and kind of like thinking in their head about it looked but I kind of felt like that every single time that I looked at it so I really wanted to change it and it honestly couldn't looked any worse so that's why I decided to do the full paint job [Music] but when you're doing the body filler and applying it just make sure you don't put too much on or else oh you're gonna be sanding for a really long time as you're gonna see in the time-lapse it's I would say that's the only thing that I encountered when I was putting it on and make sure you have a nice even application so you don't have any bubbles where you're gonna miss them [Music] [Music] or the 400 grit said I decided to do a wet sin because when I was standing with a foreigner grit sandpaper dry it was constantly clogging up my hand sander and I was having a whole bunch issues with it so I decided to do a wet sand which I could just wash it off really easily and it came out really nice at the end so what I'm doing here is I'm just washing off all the residue from the 400 grit sandpaper even though most of them and washed off by the water there was still some left over so I just wanted to make sure the car was nice and clean before I parked it back of the garage to get ready for paint my shadow to the sunrays [Music] [Music] so for a painting what you're gonna need for preparation is you know want some waters this is our bleed resistant painters tape right here is an 18 inch by seven hundred fifty foot roll it's really good to cover up all the windows mirrors headlights taillights and then for a tape tape all up I got a three-quarter roll that you can use for the small seams and then for the larger seems to the headlights of the taillights I don't want to use the two inch roll so for protection we're you're gonna want to use skip this other way this is a Kemp guard it's like a full suit just protects your clothes your skin anything like that we also have a gloves here too I'm not going to be using and then for regardless I'm using ski goggles I didn't really want to spend the extra money and I think I think they're gonna work fine and then for a respirator you're gonna want to investigate respirator because you don't have read in the toxins for your lungs and then right before you paint you're gonna want to have these tack cloths to just get rid of all the dust all the dirt off the surface after you've washed it so we don't have anything bad there won't affect your finish for the paint gun itself I'm using this Mastercraft gravity-fed paint gun its original price is like 120 bucks comedian I got a Canadian Tire I got on sale for $50 so I saved a lot of the price there on the customer so for the air filter cuz you are going to filter your Eric I have a compressor it's like this disposable world and in my air filter so you just screw it on the end and filters yours so you don't have any dust and paint so for to mix up your paint what you're gonna want to use this piston cup and then you have your filters to strain your pain the paint itself this is gonna be pretty controversial because a lot of people can Abdur the paint is on this but what I've chose to use is like a single-stage out your thing paint with a producer and then sort of take a lesson from the producer the reason I chose this is because it's a lot cheaper than doing a primer base coat clear coat because the primer base coat clear coat is like over six hundred dollars to pay my full car with you but I want to need it and this stuff all together I got like two gallons almost or something sorry one gallon and then it's like it's like two or seventy-five bucks so it's quite cheap it's what they use on all the old cars cute a lot of people they're doing a restoration of an old car they do it with that because it's just what they used to use I think it's gonna come out really good you can't bump off stuff really easily I'm doing four coats of it so I'm gonna have a nice thick if I sleep until the ocean swallow me up in one motion though sees my queen I show devotion [Music] where's my [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] if I slip into the ocean swallow me up in one motion though sees my queen I show devotion [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] after you're done mixing your paint you're gonna want to test your spray pattern just make sure it's nice and even just spray it down straight down and if it comes out in a nice straight line and you should be good to go test it out on a board or something if you have an old piece of metal spray it down on that just to test your pattern before you start painting so when you're ready to paint like the vein points is just always keep the same distance away from the car at all times six to twelve inches away somewhere in between there always keep your wrist straight so don't flick your wrist and always do a 50% overlap so you don't miss any points in the car and for your first coat you want to go you're gonna want to go a little bit lighter so that way you don't have any runs and then after you get a nice sticky base down you're gonna start applying more and more paint depending on what coat you're on [Music] [Music] [Music] you made a picture in my mind you wanna leave nothing could stop me [Music] I can feel you when you're not [Music] just watching this video leave a like and a comment if you enjoyed I'd like to thank Liam he's been my photographer all this helping me set up the time-lapse all the videos and the pictures and stuff like that so I'll
