if you love learning then chances are you want to learn as much as possible and as fast as possible you want to finish memorizing the Quran and there is probably a long list of books you want to finish reading there are multiple explanations and lectures you want to finish listening to you want to master every science and surpass every acquaintance but if I tell you to revise will you find yourself having the same enthusiasm revision is where a lot of students fall short this is because it seems that you're walking backwards while the others are racing towards their goal it seems you're not making progress because you're not learning new things but revisiting what you have learned before and this oh seeker of knowledge is an illusion revising rereading recalling relearning these things from the essense of acquiring knowledge Allah says the disbelievers say if only the Quran had been sent down to him all at once we have sent it as such in stages so we may reassure your heart with it and we have revealed it at a deliberate pace and this is true for as well for Elm is acquired step by step through memorization understanding and constant revision says today you find a thing and tomorrow two of the valuable bits of knowledge to be found thus a man attains wisdom for indeed the torrent is a gathering of time droplets before we move forward I want to quickly tell you about my Arabic course this course covers the three Medina Arabic books as well as the A and it has everything you need to start learning the Arabic language from scratch and start understanding the Quran and Arabic texts thousands of students have benefited from this course and you can too and as of the time of this recording this course is available for free you can find the link in the description let's take a look at what she bakar Abu says in his book he says in the chapter which means revisiting what has been memorized revisit your knowledge from time to time for not revisiting it means for knowledge to go away whatever it is the messenger of Allah said as reported by he who studies the Quran is like the owner of a tethered camel a camel that is tied up if he pays attention to them he keeps hold of them but if he lets them lose they go away so here the prophet wasam Likens your hips your knowledge to this camel which has been tied up and if you don't pay attention to it it is going to get loose and it will run away so whoever keeps an eye on his and keeps revisiting it he will retain it and the one who doesn't shall certainly lose it he says in this Hadith there is evidence that the one who doesn't revise or revisit his knowledge he will lose it whoever he is so he says the that the sah used to learn at that time was only the Quran Kim that is what they used to learn as far as studying was concerned they used to study the Quran and memorize it so if the prophet wasallam said this about the Quran which is which has been made easy to remember Allah says he made the Quran easy to remember so if this is the case of the Quran which has been made easy to remember then what you think about the rest of the which is much easier to forget and he says the best best knowledge is that which has its principles and its fundamentals mastered and its supplementary Parts its derivations constantly revised and that which leads one to Allah and points him to that which pleases him now let me try to give you some practical tips on how to retain what you learn the the first tip I have for you is to specify a day exclusively for revision so for example if you set Friday as your day of revision don't learn anything new on Friday just use the entire day to revise what you have learned before the second tip I have for you is to limit the number of books you're learning and this is very important try not to learn more than one book at a time so for example you have a uh like this one this is a in so as you can see it is very small but ideally you would learn just this book for a year or maybe two years if you want to really Master it so you would memorize it and read the sh and understand it so if this is what I'm learning I should not be learning anything more ideally this should be what I learn as far as my core learning is concerned this is the book that's always going to be with me uh whenever I travel whenever I go somewhere this book will be with me and I'll be uh reading it and revising it uh and memorizing it and so on you can read other things uh you can read history and you can read and you can read s and all these things but as far as your core learning is concerned try to stick to one M uh so what this will do is that it will give you enough time to learn it gradually and also to revise so this is something that can help with your revision a lot and finally the tip I have for you is to reread a book every two months until you mastered it so for example if you have uh which we have been using uh you know to uh take a lot of uh advice on learning so if you want to not only uh read this book but you want to retain everything that is mentioned in this book what you would do is read it and every two months keep reading it again and again so if you continue doing this and you read it say 10 times then you will pretty much retain everything in it so this is a way to truly Master a book keep reading it again and again until it enters your heart
