so if you want a live stream from home you want it to sound awesome you're going to learn how to do that today now before we start I'm just going to go and check we are live everywhere and get some comments from you guys and girls holed up in your homes no doubt so we'll head over to the comment can now comment cam now and then when we've covered a few of your early hellos we'll get started alright then so welcome people let's see if we actually are live on on on YouTube yes we are awesome we've managed it actually get live over there so hello to Toby and to DJ box Edie in Chicago and to happy gaming yar happy gaming and to jam share who says need the hour for DJs don't sudden are broadcasting on social media I'm not sure what you're asking there anyway good to have you here hi to Joy most of you are on lockdown crazy isn't it over on facebook we've got a christian we got Rex says amazing topic greetings from Mexico hi - Dominique in Belgium hi - Han in Illinois - Brian always good to be here I - Jeremy and Dan Dan says this would be a popular one Phil yeah all our all our stuff on stream he's going mental at the moment on the website so são Paulo everyone and we will now be covering we're now gonna get started I'm just going to check my little my little keyboard this keyboard is the one that lets me change the screen when we are there you go see I can do that watch being--being this is the one I use to make all those changes so I can show you the overhead camera being there we go how awesome is that so I'll take this with me now so I can switch I'm also just gonna run over there you can tell I've been rushing to get live and turn on my little monitor which shows me what you guys can see so the reason I'm doing that is that then I will know whether you're on the right camera when we're doing this right okay let's get started so we're now going to look at this controller here which is very typical of a standard DJ controller that most of us have right just little DJ controller one output on the back a computer this is what we might want to live stream from so I'm going to show you three ways to do it so the first way is to use what I call a hacked streaming cable what the hell is a hack streaming cable what I'm about to tell you this is a way let's say this is the device we're going to stream from this represents your phone this represents your phone or your tablet whatever you've got Instagram or whatever it is you are streaming from your streaming app is on here so we want to plug into here now normally we could just probably start right on a pile of books or on a tripod point it out our decks in ourselves hit go and then you know this is picking up on its microphone the audio and the picture is coming from the camera you know that's all cool the trouble we're doing that is that the audio is gonna sound really bad right it's not going to sound good having audio like that echoing around the room and you know you you're chatting to your mates the door bangs whatever you don't want that you won't really clean audio going in there so what we want it's a way of getting the audio into there while keeping this camera working and everything prop it up camera looks good but the audio sounding good and the first way is by hacking a cable to do that now there's a few things we need to cover here because a lot of devices nowadays don't have a headphone socket this one has it's there but a lot of devices don't now you can get adapters to give you back a headphone socket but it's really really important when you're doing what I'm about to show you that you make sure whatever adapter you're using to give you a headphone socket but when you plug in you know those earbuds so I've got a little microphone there and you can say hello yeah I'm talking to you on my microphone that microphone has to work if that microphone is not working if it's still picking up the sound from its internal microphone it's not gonna work so you if you have to buy an adapter for your phone your Android phone or your iOS or whatever you can to buy an adapter make sure you buy one and make sure you test it so that when you plug in and all set wide headphones and you're talking to that microphone you know digital make some noises check that the levels on your voice recorder are going up really loud and it's definitely taking in the microphone from your ear buds for this we're gonna hack that with the lead I'm about to tell you about okay that's really important it's a number one mistake people make when doing this okay so let's talk through the lead you need what you need to do effectively is get an output from the back of here into their viral lead now the first problem we have if you've only got one output on the back of here the first problem we have is we haven't got two outputs what are we going to do for that well the lead I'm about to show you fixes all of that stuff so you need to get a couple of these I'm gonna link you to an article in the comments actually I'm a link you to an article that explains all these things and where to but these and it's probably quite hard to see those on the camera but these are little they've got to RCA's on them and they've got one socket here so what we can do with these is plug the pair with them and if I set up the lead you'll see here's my normal output I'm now plug these into here like this there you go that's giving me an extra RCA output an extra output here so I can now plug those two into here you can hear my speakers buzzing away there maybe and what that's giving me is like an extra output I've got two outputs there now one going to my speakers like normal and a spare one by the way two of these is like five dollars or something I've got a spare output on there that's really cool because what that means is I can now plug a lead into here to plug into my iPod right or into my tablet or into my phone so that's the first thing you need now of course if you've got a booth and a monitor up in the back great just use one for your speakers and one for here but this is a good way of kind of hacking that right the second thing we need is what's called and I need to explain this to you carefully a t r RS to TRS lead now remember I'm going to link you in the comments to an article or in the description I'm doing straight afterwards to an article that gives you links to all this stuff and explains it in more detail so this little lead here and I'll show you on the overhead camera as well it's got a socket on it which is called a trrs it's a TRS plug actually trrs he's got two hours this is a TRS socket what's the difference this one although this will plug into your headphone socket on anything it's got an extra little thing which is urgent which is massively important it's got a microphone input if you look at it really carefully chikan show you on the camera it's got four little bits of metal and three little dividers instead of three bits of metal and two dividers and the extra little bit if you like put some microphone input into your device and that's really important because we're about to hack that microphone input now ideally you just want to lead with one of those on one end trrs mini jack 3.5 millimeter jack and on the other end you want to RCA a plug into the bit I've just shown you on the here right but those are these are really hard to get you used to be able to get them to plug like camcorders into TVs and stuff but they're really hard to get nowadays so the second thing you need is a twin RCA yep we'll just plug into there you get you're with me so far right to TRS this is just a normal headphone socket that plugs into there now what that gives us is an output here that should work on here when we plug it into our headphones or our adapter it should work I say should because this is hit and miss I mean he's gonna cost you ten dollars through all this stuff right so hopefully if it doesn't work it's not the end of the world it seems to work on most older devices with headphone sockets but it is hit and miss when you're using an adapter to get the headphones to work but in theory if we plug that into there now we can now set this up as our camera hit stream on here and we'll have really clean audio I'm just jogging this you can hear a bit of a distortion but I've really clean audio now going into here now you're gonna want to test it you wanna what gonna want to get the level right because this is a microphone input and this is actually a line output so you're not gonna get the level right probably a bit lower than you normally have it and then your adjust the level on the back of your speaker for your room and once you've set the level for the broadcast don't touch it so that's the the kind of hack method the advantages of the hack method it's cheap really cheap it's a lot better than using the built-in microphone but the disadvantage is it's only in mono go to sleep microphone inputs they're always only mono it's tricky to get the levels right I was just talking to you about that then you get going to get them right and leave them alone a bit of trial and error use the voice recorder app on your iOS or Android device to get that right but certainly my other set might not work with modern phones and modern devices it's just the nature of the beast unfortunately but that is the the happed streaming cable method I will give you a link to an article on the website when you stop buzzing away there please I'll give you a link to the article on the website which will help you to find out how to do that a little bit better later on it in the description or in the comments the link to the article or I then so that's the cable method before we move on to the second and better method I just wanna take some early comments from you guys and girls any questions you've got over there and once we've done that we'll come back and do the second half of this all right then so comment cam time her what we got this is going to be really busy how to stream on facebook without being banned Facebook is a lot harder than Instagram and twitch so just maybe try one of the other platforms but using using you know music from DJ pulls and quick mixing and using effects and using different bpms and using more underground stuff that can all help there's another article we can link you to actually which talks a bit more about that but great question Olga great hack says really I appreciate it it is a good one it works really well so I've tried the hack method with an earbud adapter and an iPhone 6 it didn't bypass the mic and recorded normally with ambient noise this is a big error the big problem most people have and it depends upon all kinds of variables as to what make you smart might make this go wrong but the basically if you can get that microphone on your headphones to work with it then it should work with the adapter but the way I'm going to show you in a minute is a bit more expensive but it works every time any setbacks on having only mono not really not for a live stream Dave so you can use periscope as well over on Twitter yeah good idea thank you for that goo and say and I just made it here I thought I missed the live stream hope everyone's staying healthy keep praying DJ says it's the me DJ Mario thank you for that do you need a license to play a live stream for DJ it's a real gray area licence won't really save you to be honest basically use more underground music quick mix use different BPM use use effects use your microphone do anything that you know some people can stay online for two hours some people get cut immediately a lot beats down to the kind of music you play and the platform you're using twitch seems to be really cool at the moment for it Instagram is seems to be a bit more lenient than Facebook YouTube people are getting away with it on YouTube periscope apparently as well so you just going to have to try it any tips on using zoom we've seen lots of people using zoom but we are got any tips right now we'll consider doing that a little bit later on Mandy we've been doing that to Mandy also system thank you for this you're very welcome Mandy all right then more comments monoprice has the RCA splitters super cheap like 52 cents each and the trrs to TRS is like nine dollars I got all mine for under 15 says Mike that's awesome great tip there monoprice to do some really good cheap stuff don't they so moving on then with your comment just checking checking checking checking check-in a lot of you using the second method which I'm about to move on to dispute the copy Isis Gabriel or Gabriel I just won my dispute over Warner music well done love to know how you managed that alright then and this is exactly what I've been looking for audio and speaker headphone for cue and direct to CPU says DJ pep in your step alright then I'm gonna move on because I've got another method to cover here and I want to cover it in quite some detail for you guys and girls if you've just joined us and you're finding this useful please do hit share let's get this out look we're all in quarantine we're all in the same we're all bedroom DJs now heat share get this information out to everyone let's all get live-streaming our set so let's all get doing this in the in the weeks and months to come I think we're gonna be into the long hallway people so pass it on hit share that's all I'm asking of you here right okay back to back to the the main desk and we're going to talk about the second way of live streaming from your DJ gear now so the second way of doing this if you don't want to hack that cable you want a higher quality method maybe you want it to be in stereo you don't mind spending a little bit of money is to use an audio interface an audio interface is different this method I've just shown you here is taking the actual audio signal the analog audio signal out of your controller and put in analog audio signal in mono into your streaming device and it's okay but it's got its drawbacks the best way of getting that signal into there is to somewhere away from your streaming tablet or phone to have an audio interface that converts that signal into a high-quality digital signal that it then puts into your phone or tablet via the light or USBC input this is just such an audio interface I've got a few to show you here here's one it's called the iRig stream and put this on the overhead camera for you it's called the iRig stream you get this from I came on to mediate about 100 euros hundred dollars you can actually do it with the tractor audio - you can do it with ever mix this mix box and there's all other kinds of mixes USB little live mixes will do it and I'll tell you what the important thing is now the important thing is that whichever audio interface you choose is certified to work with what you're plugging it into an iOS device and Android device and comes with the correct lead as long as you get those two things then there's every chance it's going to work so let me talk to you about how you would do this so we're going to take our audio interface in the one our favorite one at the moment is the iRig stream I'll tell you why it's our favorite one at the moment I'm going to take our audio interface and we're going to plug it into our DJ controller now let's just assume this DJ controller doesn't need all these adapters and stuff let's assume we've got an IR we've got a booth output and a master output just to make this easier with the LEAs I've got in front of me okay so I'm gonna plug into the back this is my output that's just for live streaming say a booth out but I've already got a master output I'm gonna plug my booth output into there what's it's got my piece of paper at the back there which has got some important information on someone go grab that now because I don't want to miss anything here don't you guys and girls too to get half the information you need there we go right okay so we've now got an output that's going to be used for our streaming again you could use those splitters if you want it if you needed to have a separate output now we're going to take our audio interface and we're going to plug into it this output this has got twin RCA's on it there they are okay this is now going to convert the signal internally in Stijl and here I have a lightning connector to plug into my iOS device BAM see we get a power on there now this is now powered up I've now got an input volume control here and that's going to speed a stereo signal into the iOS device which is going to hijack the the audio in the the audio in there is now all coming from here and that's going to be the highest possible quality going on it's a really really cool way of doing it and even better because remember in this unit I haven't actually got a booth out but I've just taken my only output so plug onto here this unit has got a little headphone monitor output which I can plug another cable into and plug it into my speakers so it's almost got like a true which lets me now have my speakers so now I can use my speakers and this has even got a volume control for the speakers on it as well here it's got lots of other features as well but that makes this a really good one the iRig stream again the article I'm going to link to will give you all the details about where to get these things from and this will then give them my speakers or give me a high-quality and put into my device here now this also has lead for here's the two-liter comedy I know you can't see these that well but it also has leads to plug in for a normal computer and USB see for modern Android devices so this I ring stream is really good but any to in audio interface to in means two inputs which is stereo is to impressively think there's one left and one right so that's a - in any - in audio interface that can take a line output and has got the right lead and the right certification to work with whatever you're gonna be live streaming from will work just fine here it's more expensive but it's stereo it's the highest quality and it's not a hack like that other cable it will work so using an audio interface directly to your phone or tablet is another great way of doing it and by the way you can use an audio interface like that directly to your computer as well I mean I just showed you a USB lead now that is really the best way of doing it that's what I'm doing now here because my computer has got multiple cameras in it's got multiple audio I normally use this exact interface hidden under the desk with anything I've got on the desk plugged into it and it's fed into the computer with a computer mixer blending all that stuff for me so I've got three cameras I can put overlays on the screen I've got this so if you want to really go to town you can use your computer as your broadcasting device using broadcast software OBS broadcast software is what a lot of people use we use something called ECAM live EC AMM live now and then we've got you can use a little Logitech webcam there really good and get those on Amazon you can even use what we use DSLRs plugged in via via interfaces that we've got like 4k cameras all over the place in this place you don't need anything like that I think a camera that's got your decks on it and a camera that's got you on it is enough or just one camera that's got both and the point is here that whatever way you do it you're going to get much better audio than using just the built-in microphone on anything your laptop your your um your tablet or whatever audio is the important thing people will forgive anything as long as it sounds awesome so that is ways to make your DJ livestream sound amazing as I say there's an article about this that we've published I'm gonna link to it in the description and in the comments so that you can follow up on are giving you links to some of the stuff I showed you in there as well but any questions you got about this I don't get to answer now and we go back to the question cam asked some underneath the article or underneath this live stream on YouTube Facebook or global DJ network and we will get to you and we will answer those for you I think we're going to be talking an awful lot more about live streaming in the weeks and months to come because we'll all be doing it right and I want to make sure that you are doing it better than everyone else because people will hang around more on your streams you'll get 50 people instead of five people and it will just all work better for you if you do some of these things that we're talking to you about so I will link to that article for you there's another article that links to from that article called 10 mistakes DJ's always make when doing live streams you might want to look at that and as I say please ask questions and more than ever we're here for you at this time we're all like you we're all on lockdown we know what it's like and so users ask questions we'll get through all together now talking the community let's go and have a final little chat to people over here on the live stream on you oh no just that totally to be expected one of the busiest live streams we've ever done and once a captive audience aren't you so Jeremy says sorry Rowell says I've got the DD jrz this there's so many I read which one do I need to connect to my android phone iRig Stream iRig stream is the one that we use and that will connect to your Android phone white privilege cat just says awesome thanks you're very welcome white privilege cat so I'm using a djm 900 an audio input on USB yeah if you've got a mixer that's got USB out brilliant plug it in get the right lead plug it in that's what Toby's doing awesome their Facebook still takes you down using OBS I tried it says debut it's not what you're using to broadcast it's the music you're broadcasting that's causing the take down Dave so just go and use twitch or go and use Instagram or YouTube try your luck on those channels can you do it the track two audio six yes almost certainly you can we've used you know Denon DJ DBS interfaces to do it with any any audio interface I'll get a digital signal into your devices la mean it's got the leaf your device and it works with your device your Apple one's quite often in certification to work and you'll be fine I love these sessions as Jay Wright 89 you're very welcome it's what we're here for restreamed IO says Jeremy talking there about ways of getting it to more than one service at once restream IO is what we use here now to broadcast on YouTube and Facebook at the same time for instance so ya rescreened dir is really worth looking into if you're going to get into this seriously how about the role and go mix this is Ricky it's awesome in fact it's one of the ones we recommend in the article that I'm going to link to for you so yeah the role of go mixer is awesome can you use this on a DDJ Wego for yes you can use it on anything what I just showed you works on anything alright then so any suggestions on how to do this just from my laptop and record box all my equipment is in Ibiza yeah you can just plug into your laptop with a lead as well so that's going to work as well alright then guys and girls I know there's so many of you asking questions and I just just cannot get around to all of them today because I've got another live stream to do unbelievably now I'm over in our complete wedding DJ course with Jason John I doing the coaching session over there in just 29 minutes and Jason and I've got to prepare for that so I've got to get out of here all I want to remind you is that you can get the book just by heading over to digital DJ tips comm and clicking on any of the join us icons you know it's a great thing to read right now when you're stuck right at home and also when you get there you'll see the two articles we published today on live streaming the one that gives you all the details about what I just discussed and the one about 10 mistakes live streamers are making right now so listen wherever you are in the world stay safe our prayer with you keep indoors keep keep constructive and busy let's kind of grab this thing by the neck let's not sit and wait for it to happen to us let's make the most of it together and get good stay in and make the moment I'll see you very soon people bye-bye
