good morning it is 6 o'clock in the morning and Chad has been up for hours he is getting ready to take well not take he's not taking but all the guys are going camping this weekend and where is he out there somewhere good morning you have been up for a while no well I don't know I just rolled over and you weren't there well you can see Chad is getting ready to go and he has kind of taken over my counter space this morning he wants me to make him a tinfoil dinner for tonight and so I thought this is a great time I'll show you guys how we do our tin foil dinners and you probably already know how to do them but if you've never made a tin foil dinner I'm gonna show you it is really easy and tin foil dinners can be cooked in a campfire or they can be cooked inside of your oven and so I'm gonna make him one for tonight and I'm gonna make myself one so that I have something to eat well he's gone start with the heaviest tin foil that you've got so I've ripped off four pieces of tin foil two for Chad two for me and then we double wrap them [Music] so you can see I have my assembly line I'll set up starting with my sheets of tinfoil potatoes mushrooms green peppers onions hamburger butter salt and pepper and I like to put sprinkle on a little onion gravy mix or some kind of gravy mix to kind of thicken the meal up and give it a little extra flavoring couple big handfuls of potatoes green peppers so I've kept my pieces about bite size I don't want them too small because I don't want him to go to mush when they're being cooked especially in a campfire but I don't want them so large that it takes all night to cook them so about bite size and I like to break the hamburger up instead of putting a patty in it I like to break it up into little bite-sized pieces as well so it will cook a little faster really want to use plenty of butter in this that butter is going to help make it yummy and when that butter melts you've got all that juice and then the a little bit of gravy powder that I sprinkled on here it just makes a really good gravy so don't go cheap on the butter don't be chintzy use that and there's no wrong way to do it really really you can give a commentary on bringing two edges together pinch the top and rotate counterclockwise bangs down okay bring it together tension and then just doorbell [Applause] if you have a little important for it when you're done wrapping yep put some kind of mark on it so I know it's mine [Applause] so there's a lot of reasons why you want to double wrap it one is it's going to be an account fire and the guys are going to take a shovel and they're going to pick it up or their glove and they're going to rotate it so it cooks and then you don't want all the juices coming out now are you gonna build a little campfire here at home and put yours in Oh 20 30 minutes actually you can tell when it's done you can really start smelling smelling it well except the rule of thumb was that if you can smell it it's too late you've earned it at least that's the case with cookie got you maybe go buy some heavier it's nice not having ripping in the fire heavy duty and when you take him out it's nice I call it tin foil I know it's not too far anymore it's aluminum foil foil I grew up with the mother but call it tin foil so it's to me I'll bet my kids call it tin foil so should I write dad and get them all mixed up in the campfire right grandpa yeah now what write something on the back too so when it's in the fire so when you turn it you know okay grandma are you Excel tell me what you're going to do pretty big smile on your face this morning and your mama took your picture are you happy to come I'm happy to have you here boy is this your backpack let me look at it [Music] I now gotta get a picture of my boys BYE MOM bye bye have fun Henry [Music] I'm sure by now the guys have their camp set up they've probably got their fire going so they've got some coals to cook their tin foil dinners in and I'm going to turn the oven on and I'm gonna put mine in the oven so I have something yummy to eat today too I'm just gonna place it on this little pan and I'm going to heat my oven to 350 degrees and just just set this in there and it'll take about an hour okay so my dinner has been in my tin foil dinner has been in the oven for about an hour and I just want to check it I can smell it check and see if it's ready it always amazes me that you can handle tin foil straight out of the oven like this burn your fingers and it will if you touch where the food is I don't want to tear the tin foil all the pieces because if it's not done I'll have to wrap it back this and cook it longer all right so I have my dinner ready I hope Chad and the kids are enjoying theirs this recipe is in the Griffiths cookbook if you want a good idea for a family reunion let everybody make their own tin foil dinners and then cook them together around the campfire that makes for fun memories ready to go eat your sleeping bag and throw it in there Harry all right let's go playing your sleeping bag hey pink and blue okay a tarp is that [Music] no remember the last time we went camping live run air mattress [Music] [Music] okay it's been about ten minutes since we put that in there lots of smoke but I hope it I hope it cooks I hope it tastes good because I'm kinda hungry it's been a while since we've had lunch so anyway mine doesn't work it looks like there's plenty of others that I can you know snag some from their their dinner I said five minutes and everybody came at ten minutes my heat went away you missed your window Oh mine's a black tell me about your dinner what's the first time for dinner I've done on my own and have to come out of the fire the first time time to go back in again oh look at that chicken cooked all the way through oh boy there you go mm-hmm so you're saying you did it right I'm very impressed with myself well dinners done now it's time to build a fire to roast marshmallows or everybody's done eating oh yeah the patient one of the group [Music] you
