hello friends is mentally ill because he plays video games and plays video games because he's mentally ill here bringing you another dota 2 video in which we're going to be talking about my absolute favorite guy in dota 2 pudge finally he got buffed in 7.30 as you may have already seen i completely blew my load when i saw the changes initially i was thinking oh three changes it's going to be dog [ __ ] usually this is what ice frog does plus one arm or whatever something like that but no he can insta kill creeps with his hook and on top of the other changes in the previous patches to pudge he's actually really goddamn good so in this video we're going to be talking about my top tips for how to own with pudge in 7.30 so first i want to show you an example laning stage on pudge because uh this has changed dramatically in 7.30 how you play the hero in the laning stage at the very least you have a lot more options for things that you can do the way that you play this hero now is less so like an earth shaker or a tiny and which is like a typical melee four and more so like a marana where you play around the camps because you can one hit creeps what i do is i body block the camp i do this in every single game the very first easy camp is extremely important to body block because i block the easy camp this dude has no choice on the grim stroke but to pull the hard camp and so when he does that i hook the the big guy and because of this what's gonna happen is maybe he'll pull a few creeps but it doesn't matter because these little creeps are so pathetic that the lane is going to push into an enigma and the guy is completely free farming at this point whenever you're bored and you've got nothing better to do and the lane is pushed back and they have no camps to work with walking over here and stacking is absolutely god tier you can also hit the ancients and then hook in a little creep in the hard camp and that will uh you can stack two things at once since this dude failed the pull on this camp instead i walk over and i hook the large creep at the easy camp and then i just farm it because my hero has really good base regen and amazing base damage so you can do this you just you just sit in the jungle farming creeps messing with poles if they try to pull you hook the big creep uh he fails again i snipe another courier and it's just rinse and repeat this garbage for the rest of the laney stage and the kind of ideal game state that will happen is that your offlaner can be left alone at some point uh the lane is back is is back here and feels really good for the offlaner to just be left alone your carry goes and farms up the stacks in the jungle that you make for them or your mid and then you take their lane this is one of the biggest changes this is what we're about to see and it's it's so stupidly simple but the concept is important in my opinion because i've heard a lot of things since 7.30 was released about pudge where i think people are just wrong uh people say like oh you don't have enough mana to spam the hooks so it's not really that good or you know you should be using your hooks to kill people so being able to one shot creeps doesn't really matter uh i i totally disagree with that i think this p people are just hooking creeps that's the problem people are just hooking creeps but there are always going to be these periods in dota where you know that the enemy team's not going to fight you and you know that you don't want to fight it's kind of these like recovery periods so in this situation for example my undying's totally out of mana i'm totally out of hp gyro's over here farming so he's not gonna do anything uh whenever you go for a kill often what happens is the enemy team sits in lanes and they'll push out the lanes and so you have to go deal with them so after you fight after you take a tower there's always a grace period there's always a recovery period where everybody just kind of farms and gets resources back and so it's in those periods where you should be hooking creeps that's that's the problem is that people are hooking big creeps and trying to farm during periods where you should be fighting so you can see in this situation obviously in the laning stage i was hooking big creeps a lot because that was to manipulate the the pull camps but here the reason i hook this big creep is because enigma's not going to kill it he's going to the creep wave undone's not going to kill it because he's undying he doesn't kill creeps uh so this is just a free creep here and so i take it and i have clarities going and i've got a soul ring coming so it's totally free and this is where you get extra gold this is where you get extra levels on pudge in the current patch next up i want to show you the tricks that i've kind of figured out over the years for hitting hooks more consistently because there's actually quite a few ways to make hooking consistent it's not all luck as much as it's really fun to throw those hail mary hooks and hit people uh there's there's a lot of ways you can make it really consistent so here we can see in this scenario actually i'm going to go back a little bit uh there's a grim stroke here he's totally out of position my blink dagger is six seconds uh off cooldown so maybe i can blink on him uh maybe i'm going to hook him if he puts himself in a scenario where i can hook him or if i get some sort of setups done but instead of just throwing it and putting it on cooldown where all of a sudden he can just run away and be totally fine uh i saved the hook it's really important not to waste your hook because the moment you use it the threat of it is gone and the person stops juking and doing crazy [ __ ] so we kite out the glimmer cape and the moment he walks down this high ground i know that i can hit him because he's got very few choices that he can make now in fact he's basically got no choices that he can make at least ones that are good he can walk towards the right and then he's walking into my enigma where there are idol ons he can walk towards the left where he's walking into me and he's going to die to me just walking up and rotting him or he continues walking towards his io who can potentially save him and he's walking through a choke point so i know that if i just throw straight down the middle then i can hit him there another way that you can hit hooks on pudge which is more psychological than it is a you know mechanical trick or anything like that is to wait for an enemy to engage in something else where you know that they're distracted and you know that they're not just focusing on not getting hooked you need to wait for chaos to start because in chaos people don't think about you know the pudge that's lingering around the corner uh but when you are sieging and the enemy team is holding some formation in their base they are thinking about that because that's a part of defending against a siege so here we have a scenario where we are sieging and i'm not doing anything crazy you know i don't need to jump in i don't need to hook anybody i could save my gyro if he gets going on but then my wind ranger blinks in like an absolute madman pops bkb and goes on the pa and so basically uh i take this as an opportunity i figured okay he's wind ranger he's got bkb he's got wonder and he's fine uh he's not gonna die maybe i'm an idiot maybe he would have actually died there uh in some other scenario but uh so i use this as an opportunity to go for more kills and to hook somebody out so i see that this tiny blinks in [ __ ] up his avalanche on the wind ranger and so he's in mode i'm running away this guy bkb and i'm gonna kite him i'm gonna kite his bkb so pa is dying that's his carry uh he turns around to like i don't know maybe toss pa away or something like that and then he walks away from the wind ranger's bkb and i'm able to hit a very easy hook on him now if i did this exact hook prior to my wind ranger jumping in and causing chaos there's absolutely no way that this guy's gonna get hit next up i want to show you a clip uh where i do one of my favorite tricks to hit hooks uh that is a pretty consistent way of turning a kill into a huge advantage by virtue of the enemy team chain feeding you turn one kill into many kills so here you can see in this replay my team is going on grim stroke and he's about to get hit by rocket there's three of us uh it's 3v1 it it really seems like we're going to kill him and i do not need to expend hook in order to kill him i was very certain of that however most pudges will still use hook to steal the kill because it gives them flesh heap stacks people tunnel vision and the enemy team will expect you to do that as well and so what i wanted to do here was look like i was one of these idiot tunnel visioning pudges that is just going to walk up and hook this guy uh whenever he's in hook range whenever i can do so and so what i do instead is i make it look like i'm tunnel visioning the moment it looks like i can hook him and i've got the angle what i do is instead i throw the hook at a tertiary target in an attempt to kill multiple heroes uh and so in this scenario unfortunately puck is a god and he phase shifts it's a pretty easy hero to dodge hooks with but you can see exactly what i was going for so i found a successful example of this bait hook where you essentially trick the enemy team into thinking that you're tunnel visioning a one hero and then you go for somebody else uh this is from our kosh gaming versus piccata squad and we're watching gremlo on pudge so you can see that gremlo by the way i was at a dentist appointment when this was happening so i did watch this that's why i remember it uh there's i've no association with this team whatsoever you can see kremlow is walking up to this draw ranger faking the hook faking the hook making it look like the drought ranger needs to dodge back and forth and the enemy team at this point is going to think that this is purely a kill on the draw ranger and so because of this gremlo is able to hit a really easy hook on the ventral spirit who's walking in and thinks that she has absolutely nothing to fear because the kill attempt is on the drow ranger the next hook that i want to show you is something that you should absolutely only do if you are completely stomping a game because this is essentially the 360 no scope of dota nobody 360 no scopes because they're trying to win they do it purely for style points uh you know if you do hit the 360 no scope there's not much you can do about it if you're the enemy guy because the guy didn't even aim and he shot you so it's like how did this guy aim so quickly he did a name and that's exactly what this is it's really op when it works it's just completely random whether or not it works so how it works is if you target your portrait with the hook sometimes you will hook backwards through your body and nobody ever expects getting hooked by this so if the angle is right you will hit somebody and let me show you that here i hit the luna uh now the reason that i hit the luna there was because i've set this up i stood in the correct location to hit that hook but that's not how it always works so i say sometimes you'll hook backwards and that's because depending on where you're standing your hero will hook at different angles that that's the 360 element to this or the 360 no scope element to this so if you stand right here i almost hit the luna so essentially this is something that you use only when you're fishing for hooks and those hooks would be kind of random whether they hit or not anyway so if you're on the dire side that is if you're radiant and then sieging dire it still will generally tend towards the radiant fountain where the direction of the hook is so you have to think about that basically what i'll do is if it looks like somebody's at an angle where they're between me and the radiant fountain i might try for this hook just to be silly just to see if i can hit it and if i do then people think that i'm really good at pudge and then if you don't people will still be very confused because you just hooked through yourself the next thing that i want to show you is not a hook trick at least it's not something that you can do to hit better hooks it's more so something that you can do to follow up from hooks better and it's kind of binary it's not really like uh you do this thing it's more like you if you know this thing you're going to be a better pudge uh so if i throw a hook on a hero like puck it's very easy for that hero to just press face shift and then easily get away and i can demonstrate that here by cueing it up so it happens as soon as possible i spam the phase shift puck will 100 of the time phase shift before i'm able to hit the dismember but with an ether lens it's different because of the extended cast range on dismember what happens is puck flies through the air and then about right here because that's a dismember range i will start channeling the dismember on puck and then because i used my dismember as soon as humanly possible as the hook is flying back i'm actually walking towards puck and so puck is stunned until he gets to the location that i hooked from and so you're essentially creating this distance where i can start the dismember and then turn around and continue channeling this member while the puck is still stunned i'll show you here by doing the exact same thing channel this member as soon as possible try to press the phase shift and it doesn't work thank you for the watching my video and see you in the next content
