let's get ready for Christmas I guess I mean this is the last last beatbox stick this up here yeah trick it's all right there we go now we need something for the top uh this you you want this there I guess it would go up there this is a really sticky foreign [Music] welcome to episode 54. if it sounds like I have two big wooden beads shoved up with nostrils it's because I do maybe but also I have a cold which is just driving me insane it just won't go away like cat this episode took a long time to make because it was you know one because of this cold that won't go away and two because of the cold they weren't going free because it's quite a big build like I said before you know a big builds take big time Big Time today we're going to make a piece of terrain probably the biggest piece of terrain I've ever made actually out of trash and old toys and rubbish if you're English a little bit of XPS foam uh but you know most people seem to be able to get it apart from me so and you could probably make it yourself if you were you know you really wanted to I don't think anyone has actually ever made one of my builds uh lots of people have made versions of cat no you can't beat them all right I've got I'm never going to introduce you to them okay I know what you like there'll be two buildings already for this town I made the uh the kind of post office the sort of satellite array post office thing and I also made a trading post which is one of the best things I've ever made it's uh collaboration with me and all my patrons uh we all built a little bit of it and stick it look watch that episode I'll link them both down below anyway these are buildings for a 28 millimeter scale tail that you could use for d d or Star grave or even Warhammer if you want you know yeah it's a big build it's gonna take me a while this isn't the Christmas episode by the way I'm gonna try and get another episode out before Christmas uh I'm gonna try [Music] foreign [Music] sketches of building ideas now it's a Tavern um so I thought I guess I'll just make the droids a bit taverny you know what I mean I don't usually use rulers or draw a straight line so I'm not very good at drawing things that are like architectural but you know I'm sure I'll get some ideas which is the whole point [Music] thank you select the previous terrain pieces the buildings are made for this town and it's going to be pretty dilapidated because that's kind of fun for me I like making the lapidated I quite like saying dilapidated is that is that the real I've said it so much now over and over again while recording this narration I don't think it's actually a real word yep it is definitely a real word I just Googled it you'd be surprised how many times I have to do that when doing voice over on my videos you know I say a word so many times it loses all meaning and I have to reassure Myself by Google in that word and seeing if it's real you know I should probably talk about what I'm drawing uh so this is a design for an inn or a hotel or a bar Pub you know kind of all of those things for the town of respite now respite is a fictional town in a fictional world that I'm creating and it's kind of made up of old you know spaceship parts and scrap metal and it's basically it's like a shanty town so this in is pretty famous you know it's in the town of respite which is like the only relatively safe place on the planet I'm gonna go into that more later on in the painting section you know the as we call Bill story time in the painting section of the video because I got a feeling this build is going to be pretty big and it's going to take a while to paint so be sure to stick around for that [Music] so like all the buildings in respite this uh shenti building is kind of built on top of yellow Sandstone bricks of an ancient race that was there like thousands of years ago that suddenly disappeared you know probably when the new settlers came along they were just kind of wiped out who knows no one knows no one records you know the the nitty-gritty stuff like that you know but uh yeah so they're basically new buildings just built straight on top of the old ones so as well as an inn it's also a pub and I imagine they have to brew their own booze so they have giant vets of Brewing Machinery at the back I don't know how Brewing works and I'm just going to call it respite in at the moment I do have a name for it and I will reveal that later uh in Bill's story time so uh see you in a bit so this episode is sponsored by Squarespace now if you've ever wanted to make a website and you're not really sure how to do it Squarespace is the place to go look you get provided with hundreds of templates like these just here and they're all pretty cool designs I'll give them that and uh so you want to make a website about pickles look oh there we go there's a pickle website you can literally open this up change the names there you go you have a pickle website so I decided to make a website of my own for Bill making stuff now I've made plenty of websites in the past and I have to see that Squarespace is the easiest and most intuitive website build I've ever used it's uh so easy to get great effect I mean look at this this took me like five minutes uh so if you want to make a website click on the link down below there is a sale going on there you go foreign [Music] materials I like to use all that waste material that you know you tend to just Chuck away and corrugated cardboard especially this time of year Christmas time all those Amazon deliveries uh you get a lot of cardboard so I need to use I need to use it my recycling bin is pretty full so I'm going to use corrugated cardboard to make the basic structure of the building now I don't usually use corrugated cardboard and I cannot remember why I will probably I will probably realize later and it will come back to bite me this is why I don't use it but for now let's just hot glue this thing together make a box it looks looking fine you know a little bit flimsy but you know should be fine so when I make my terrain buildings I like to not measure anything I don't have a brooder there but I don't really measure anything you know one Wall's not the same size as the other and to me this is fine because my buildings are all kind of janky and Shanty for me I can just see they are designing choices you know aesthetic choices that I've made on purpose which you know I haven't I just can't be bothered to measure stuff but I do like to take a little miniature and measure up against the thing to make sure it's not ridiculously too big one thing about using corrugated cardboard is it can get a little bit soggy especially in a workshop like this I'm literally in the roof space so it gets a little bit kind of moist in here not in a good way [Music] so this building is going to have a lot of stuff stuck to it like XPS foam and other bits of cards so it's not going to be too flimsy but if you were to use corrugated cardboard I would use a double you know I'd stick two pieces together and use that as a single and to be honest with you you use up more cardboard that way which is good because I got them so much so much cardboard I need to do another cardboard only build video soon especially after Christmas I think that might be quite useful in fact a lot of the cardboard I have and I'm using comes from you lot I have a PO Box addressed down below where I ask people to send me bits and pieces that they don't want or you can send me anything at all really as long as it's not like a dead animal or underwear or something you know a fresh new under my foot I actually like looking at the address labels and and kind of comparing people's handwriting skills I mean there hasn't really been good handwriting yet uh it just goes to show the level of my audience you know artistic like me not very good at writing things you know but just use block capitals you know that's a little tip from me um but yeah artistic that's the nice way of putting it isn't it so I was going to leave the roof removable so I could do all the Interior Furniture and stuff like that inside you know make a really cool post-apocalyptic dollhouse but uh it didn't work out that way this cardboard was way too flimsy and you know to be honest this video took long enough so we're going to make some XPS foam Bricks now XPS foam is not easy to get hold of in this country if anyone knows a good place to get hold of it in the UK let me know but we're going to Chuck them all in a tin and throw a few stones in there and just uh shake them up texture them and kind around the corner bonus and there we go there be some bricks I like to stick all my bricks into a box I've labeled bricks because that box has lots of bricks in it from previous builds and if I need bricks I know where to go it's got a box of box with bricks on it they're basically is my brick box I don't know why I'm telling you this uh this is a long video I think I'm gonna lose the world to live after all this narration but uh I'm drawing sewing on the side of the box that you can figure out partly the reason why this build took so long is because it's a big build but also because when I'm making buildings I tend to like doing like montages you'll see I'm going to do one any minute now I think I'm gonna yeah here we go here's a brick montage [Laughter] [Music] foreign there we go it's like an obsessive compulsion with me I have to kind of make some weird animation like with rivets and bricks and anything really you'll see a lot of that in this video I do apologize [Music] so we're going to use a lot of EVA foam in this build the EVA foam is dirt cheap everyone should have this stuff uh basically if you want to make metal plates that kind of curve around a shape EVA foam and corrugated cardboard for that corrugated metal corrugated look you know because it's corrugated [Music] foreign so I want to add a bit of texture to this EVA foam we're going to use this Perforating tool or tracing tool it's used for like the lever work and upholstery work I think I don't know but we're going to use it to make rivets because it makes rivets very quickly and then a lot not the best rivets in the world you're going to see those later but it works to add a bit of texture you know and it's very quick thank you [Music] there we go happy with that it looks nice and dilapidated for me now we're going to do the same on the roof but just using the corrugated card now I like to use PVA glue I could use hot glue but I don't really like hot glue PVA glue lasts forever you know it actually sticks and it holds really well once it dries it takes a while to dry it but once it does [Music] thank you [Music] so as per usual I've popped out to my local charity shop or thrift store for you Americans uh basically I like to pick up things like this look at that Korean thing I can use that those little pistons and those tires and this construction set I found um Dirt Cheap you know it's just going to go to some kid who's probably going to play with it you know what a waste basically pick it up and stick it in your bits box I'm going to use all this stuff at some point I'm sure maybe not in this video but don't worry I'm still going to get it out and show it to you anyway [Music] yeah I tend to just show you all my toys and bits of plastic because I'm sitting here actually working out myself what I'm going to use sorry for wasting your time but I'm definitely going to use this a lot of these pieces you may recognize from previous builds it all comes from the same toy set that I've been using throughout my respite builds basically it's this thing Auto City Super Fairy electronic and it kind of makes their buildings look in keeping with each other so I've used this piece for Windows this is like the whole of a ship and I'm going to use it again basically if you want to cut plastic get one of these pruner things like get a really good one and it just cuts through anything if you if you're like me you can't be bothered to get out the little saw and just cut away just get one of these things and just just chop everything up [Music] now with all this toy plastic it's very kind of waxy and shiny give it a nice sand so glue can get some purchase on there every video someone asks what sort of glue I'm using and this is basically just CA glue super glue the cheapest I can find so I fancy using some wood in this build I haven't used wood in a while and I'm going to use these old coffee stirrers and some popsicle sticks or lollipop sticks and but if you need a bit of a bit of a fatter piece of wood use these tongue depressors you can find them dirt cheap online uh you could use belter wood but bouncer would cost a fortune I see a lot of people using it it does takes texture really well using one of these uh these lollipop sticks don't really take texture very well using this but you know instead you can just use uh this thing instead which is a metal rasper a rasping tool it comes with four different settings you just have to turn it over like that and it kind of just trips the thing to shreds and there we go that is some fine wood grain texture now you could just use XPS foam but well we made you know are we Canadian no no we don't have XPS foam to throw away we need those for our bricks [Music] that I like my wood to look all old and reclaimed and I use some old uh Snips to kind of break break the wood like that and you kind of get this Old Plank look [Music] foreign [Music] part of the build where we get to add like weird bits to the basic building we've got our basic building down this is an old gravy tub that I've had forever and I just I'm so happy to get rid of it this is going to be a vet or a big I don't know some sort of big container on the side of the building that we use to store the alcohol or Brew the alcohol I don't know I don't work in a brewery but you know it would look cool I'm going to use this EVA foam to make plates of metal all over it so it's at this point when I realized I didn't actually have a base yet and it's quite hard to stick things to the side of the building without a base so I made a base out of foam board and beveled it really badly now I suggest you Bevel it really well um just because I beveled it badly doesn't mean you have to so I'm going to place a walkway here and I need some wood to hold it up so this is a Cotton Candy Stick or candy floss stick you could buy these in bulk on Amazon like dirt cheap they really are cheap it's another really good source of cheap wood maybe one day I'd have that bouncing money but just not yet speaking of which if you'd like to join Patron and support roommate and stuff go and join patreon there's a link down below um you know give me that bouncer money I should probably put a safety around there so this is tin foil or aluminum foil or aluminum foil or whatever you know however you want to wrongly say it this is used to make texture you know basically roll it on the foam and the Eva when it gives you a nice little rough texture it's all about texture so to protect all this foam I'm going to use a bit of black paint and Mod Podge [Music] so I said earlier about using corrugated cardboard you know there's got to be a downside here's the downside to using everything you know but we have a lot of corrugated I'm looking at like a mountain of corrugated cardboard just over there apparently it gets quite floppy and Soggy in a room like this you can say that about a lot of things actually I should have doubled up the cardboard the corrugated cardboard I've seen people do that but anyway it works it's fine I'm going to cover it with so much crap you won't even know it's corrugated cardboard oh yeah any other downside is you can see that it's corrugated cardboard on the edges you can see the little corrugated bit and you should probably cover those up with some I don't know some speckle or something if you haven't subscribed click subscribe you know just as a favor as a Christmas present to me I want to get to a hundred thousand Subs I'm close uh I'm closest I'm like 35 000 Subs just go until 5 000 of your friends to click on it but otherwise yeah we reuse that cardboard uh I'm gonna have to do another video where I use up all that cardboard because so much cardboard [Music] so it is greebly time not agreeable time despite what some people may tell you it's pronounced griebly ask Greg greebly uh you know look him up basically I'm looking for interesting plastic shapes like that's quite interesting these are quite interesting uh Party Poppers I believe they were yeah um still works these are Christmas tree light Lantern things um I stole them from someone's Christmas tree I'm probably gonna have to steal some more I use these quite a lot to be honest these are counters for a checkers game they're always quite cool you find those in charity shops thrift stores and this is I have no idea what this thing is it has a mirror in there you can kind of like it's like a periscope but I'm gonna use that somehow now these things I have no idea what these things are but basically I just want to inspire you to collect strange plastic shapes anything you find interesting like these old felt tip pens make cool little chimneys or pipes you know or even their you know these plastic pipe toys make cool pipes because they are plastic pipe toys but you know collect interest in plastic shapes so you're probably wondering why I'm getting all my junk out sticking it on the table as per usual you know uh we'll take a look at this hair color right that is a really complicated shape that would be really hard to scratch gold as is that you know that is a really complicated shape so if you keep your eyes open and basically treat plastic junk old toys as trash Lego you find the pieces you need you stick all these pieces together like Lego and you end up with something decent you know trash Lego so I have this idea I want this big kind of contraption on the back of this end you know it's also a brewery so I want some kind of Machinery that looks like it's Brewing alcohol and I need kind of containers like these old super glue bottles this water pistol container thing and these old soy sauce bottles basically anything that looks like it can contain fluid um but that's that's the plan anyway so for my door I'm going to use these keyring fobs you get these I don't know get them from anywhere basically they're cheap little things just stick on any of your keys and I'm going to use some of these old watch Parts uh keep an eye out for old watches in boot sales and charity shops and just take them apart get all those little cogs and dials you know especially if you're into steampunk stuff you're weirdo [Music] so to add detail I want to add a few rivets now I make my own rivets basically I just take some cheap plastic like this old butter tub I take a one millimeter diameter hole punch and I just hole punch the thing to pieces and take all the little bits and there you go there there are your one millimeter rivets foreign supposed to look like a you know the door to a submarine or a spacecraft that they kind of whoops are recycled and used for their buildings that's the uh the narrative behind that door and it looks pretty good I could just 3D print a door like that but I feel very proud of myself that I made that using a keyring fob uh they call me weird or you could call me something nice you know you don't have to call me weird but it's not like it's bothering me give me a compilation of being called weird all the time it doesn't really keep it together Bill keep it together I am making some kind of weird Brewery Contraption here using old water gun parts and uh you know things like that this is an old conduit cable tube uh basically this is how they brew their alcohol with this weird Contraption I'm sure this is just how it is in the real world basically I'm just finding anything that looks like a pipe now this thing is an old cartridge for some sort of firearm sent to me by an American um a bit of a cliche so in every one of my buildings in respite we use these lantern lights as uh kind of like an external power generator thing that sits outside the building basically it's the same thing on each building I imagine you know why would there be a different power generator for one and not the other you know basically it's the same electrician guy going around you know creating this thing so I mean that's that's what it is in my head keeping it all in keeping with each other [Music] foreign so I figured we need a hatch of some kind so they could look into the giant vat you know of alcohol to check on the color I don't know what they're gonna do basically this thing is like a little hatch that's going to go on top of the big you'll see I'll show you later so the final griebling I want to make is some complicated uh conduit wire things I can just hang out windows and connect to the machines now this is an old uh soap bottle the hand pump thing take that little plastic bit off there we go and basically cut a ton of little rings uh basically stick a bunch of wires together and use one of those little plastic Loops to hold them together and super glue it in place and there you go you've got a pretty convincing looking conduit wire thing there you go now I just saw this spray bottle head and I'm thinking like that looks like some weird cool Machinery so I'm just going to stick that to the side there and yeah let's just assemble everything foreign build is complete without the bit that's the bit right there you know I'm sure you can find those anywhere uh look at that look three three weathering that's just basically the super glue accelerator just uh crusting up there now I always intend to have ladders my bills I always forget to make them uh so at last minute I quickly remembered I had this weird construction toy set and that's essentially a ladder I just stuck it to some cake pop stick like that and there we go there's a pretty cool make shift leather foreign I just think we need to add a few more details I mean there's just not really enough rivets on here yet so I think we haven't had a rivet montage and I'm figuring that's what I'm going to do right now [Music] [Laughter] and I think we're ready for paint I think yeah oh here we go foreign spray painted it and it looks too good to paint on to be honest I don't really want to pick but we are we're going to paint on it let's be honest this is burnt sienna acrylic mixed with a color water and I basically paint anything that's going to be rusty I gotta say this is my preferred way of doing rust now basically just a really watered down burnt sienna now letting that xenophore highlight kind of shine through and just basically glazing the whole thing if you actually when it dries it pulls up in the right areas and it looks like real rust it's a really effective technique I used to just like solidly paint the thing like orange that was a mistake I apologize but anyway you don't come here to hear Bill talking about painting you know who likes painting you know well lots of people love painting but not me I don't really like the painting part too much I see it as a bit of a bit of a chore so you know you can watch me do it and we can talk about something else which is what I like to do and this is what is known as Story Time with Bill I like to create some law make a backstory you know invent something that kind of justifies this build that you're seeing right now so let's talk about the law of the respite in or the king's ending that's that's that's what it's called I tell you way right now so before I can talk about the end I should talk about the town that it's in respite you know so respite is the first Port of Call for most adventurers on the planet you know and it's basically it's an insulberg so it's it's built it's on a mountain in the middle of a desert I thought you can Google what an intelberg is it's a strange phenomenon but it's like an island mountain in the middle of a completely flat desert you know Googling it it's quite interesting so the intelberg is a very kind of strategically important place you know it's a safe place for people to land now this desert goes on for miles but you can see the end of it you know at the end of it there is just a Giant mountain range that surrounds the desert of junk old Machinery spacecraft uh weapons any old metal just basically giant giant mountains of trash uh you know but we'll get onto that in a bit so when the first colonists arrived on the planet they needed somewhere safe to set up a camp you know set up some sort of Safe Port of Call for other people to come down and for the adventuring to begin and you know where best in this inselberg in the middle of the desert So eventually the colonists find a path that leads all the way up the insubberg it's kind of like a zigzag and it's you know it's a bit of an awkward path but perfect for defense you know it's one way up one way down uh it'd be a perfect place to set up camp you know there's no other way in so when they reach the top they are all surprised to find a village a village made of sandstone brick and a tribe of people so this tribe look human uh in every sense other than the fact that the skin is kind of slightly bluish in tint but you know they look like human beings they can't really speak the same language uh and they don't seem aggressive they don't seem welcoming either they just seem kind of indifferent you know they kind of I think they're a little bit surprised to see you know these explorers these are colonists but anyway colonists don't care about that the colonists need to set up their base this is the best location on this uh horrible planet and they kind of want it so the colonists try and move the tribesman off they try and drive them off the land with violence and all sorts of things you know trade and negotiation mainly violence and they find out a few more things about them they find out that they have a king who they take orders from and that they believe in giant gods that live under the ground you know apparently the town that they're fighting over right now is directly above one of their gods so they're not gonna go anywhere [Music] obviously fighting ensues you know the tribesmen are no match for the advanced Weaponry of the colonists but they are tough but basically you know they've lived on a planet that basically wants to kill them every second of every day so they're pretty tough you know they're not going to go anywhere without a fight [Music] so after weeks of fighting the economists kind of split into two groups one group want to just wipe them out you know get business started open up this port of call and you know just make some money the other group want to kind of negotiate maybe kind of come to some sort of deal so they lay down their weapons and head towards the king's building they're allowed inside and they begin negotiating some kind of peace treaty you know some sort of negotiation where you know no one else has to die [Music] the less peaceful group of colonists wait outside Patiently I say patiently not really patiently they probably wait about 10 minutes and then they just blow up the building they blow up the building with the king in the colonists they disagree with uh killing everyone basically with the King gone the rest of the tribes wouldn't just Flee for the hills literally they run to the giant junk mountain range and they become nomadic tribes known as rusters that's another story I'll tell you that another time once the dust settled the colonists started building up on top of the old ruins of the old tribesmen buildings that's why you see these stone bricks everywhere they're basically just built directly on top with old scrap metal old ship parts any old junk they can get hold of because they weren't really Builders they just basically needed a makeshift shelter which eventually became a makeshift town which became the town of respite City old tribesmen still attack anyone to this day you know basically they've become rusters they've become Savages and they want revenge for their King you know the king that was killed in the building which is now the Inn of the town of respite so obviously that was a long time ago the people of uh respite now have no idea of its history they don't know how it was formed all they know is that the Rusted King was killed and you know the town was saved from the rusters so not many people know the truth about rusters and the origins of the town of respite and I like to keep it quiet because it's not you know good for tourism to be honest and business but the Inn is called the king's end in uh and it is the place where they celebrate the rusty Kings death every year some people say the king's body is still within the foundations of the building along with a load of colonists that no one knows about but you know no one talks about that uh no one wants to be a downer but anyway that's the story of the Kings and in foreign [Music] quite so big I'm quite proud of myself to be honest I hope you enjoyed that let me know down below um yeah I'm trying to create a world here it makes building this stuff a lot more fun to me if there is some history some story behind it and hopefully it all connects in some way there may be something in the future I keep saying that but if you really do enjoy it and you'd like to support the channel become a patron on patreon I share my Sketchbook Pages which uh you know show designs and little stories and things to do with this world so if you're really interested you can support me there as poor poor rusters [Music] so that's the painting done pretty much I just want to kind of unify the whole thing with an oil wash it's basically all your paint mixed with mineral spirits or white spirits and just slop the whole thing uh it looks a mess it always looks a mess trust me it won't look as much of a mess once it dries trust me honestly I mean it foreign [Music] I've ever done I actually had to write notes down on a piece of paper with a pen I usually just make it up on the spot you know no surprise to most of you you could probably tell I'm actually making it up right now sausages I'm gonna try and get in a Christmas episode Before Christmas if I don't Merry Christmas but I'm pretty sure I will see you then Glamor Shots now actually right there and there we are there's the king's end in I'm really proud of this building I think it looks really good it took me forever to make and the video took me forever to make so thank you for waiting patiently uh I didn't get hassled too much in the making of this video [Music] so there we are let's add this building to the other buildings of respite I've built so far lots more buildings to come I think I want to make some scattered terrain for the town next like a whale and things like that let me know if that's a good idea and uh you know thank you patrons thank you for supporting the channel thank you for keeping me going um just thank you for everything basically uh yeah thank you have I said Thank you already yeah I probably should say thank you I've said that
