How to make an axe handle. from board to handle, band saw tips

check out this it is a let's see six seven eight looks like about a nine foot board hickory check out the green so think of this as an axe handle right so this axe handle here will have 45. this x handle here will have straight grain this handle it's deadly grain look at it this is a wicked board so that's oak or pardon me uh hickory this one here is white oak and i freaking love white oak i don't know why i just do it is a scary piece of wood it's painted you won't see that side but friends i just bought this wood yeah look at look at this white oak these are gonna be wicked freaking axe handles i'm telling you deadly all right it's time so these boards i just i was in the shop the board today and i was like i wonder if they got any hickory rough hickory and i i saw some white oak and i was like whoa the freak the white oak is like i gotta show you this board friends it's like a helicopter right okay look at the grain in that board it's white oak and uh it feels amazing these handles are gonna be crazy i'm excited about this actually let's check this out these are go these handles are going to be craziness there we go right there 30 i think i want let's see so it shouldn't it should be fine i shouldn't need to do anything i see checks there that's fine i'm going 31. 32 is fine it's fine depending on your eye i'm going 30. 31. 31. would look it excuse me look at the grain this is primo wood like premo okay that knife cuts axe handles four five six seven eight nine 10 11 at least 12 handles on that one board are you kidding me honey so so okay now you're looking at a man who feels like a carpenter bob i'm not a carpenter and i would use the power saw usually doing that stuff but you know what that felt great and what we've handle if i want to trace that one out i will i love this pattern but i've also got a pattern that i really like and it's the palm swell it's different and the curve a little bit different up here look at that prince look at freaking that i'm so stoked i can't tell you yeah i've oh i guess i can turn that off now friends didn't that little bandsaw work dandy didn't it it's freaking like six that it happens to be straight up and freaking down that is the most primo handle you're gonna get right there deadly let's check something out shall we friends knowing me i'll probably because i'm not a good saw operator i'll probably be draw knife in this stuff all the way home the whole gamut i probably will be i guarantee i will be see that's the side that peels right right friends so yeah see that's the peeling side oh yeah you gotta watch that uh [Applause] watch this there's some harper hardwood in here yeah she's working quite nice it's beautiful is what it is i'm not as good as uh some on the draw knife i i'm not there yet um it's coming i'll get there i enjoy working the draw knife see i'm down to i'm down to where it's like close and i haven't drawn any lines friends this is strictly just literally right off the top of my head it is it's right off the top of my head a guy would probably get in with the dr the sander or the but i'll be taking this down with the draw knife don't know because i haven't worked with hickory before like this but it could be you could use the key to the bush for this you could use anything there we go that is a big help from draw knifing it just it took five minutes so there we go that's just me playing around friends getting ready to make my first hickory handle out of my my new board i bought but it's getting late and i want to go inside go hang with my family so there's my template right there i love this template i love it it's it's the ones on the uh wood bullet yeah uh i'm really excited right now friends like i mean really
