hey guys it's jessica here from the fernandez family farm and today i'm gonna make some all-natural organic fly spray now it's getting into the summer months and we are having a little bit of a fly problem and we like to go as organic pestify pesticide easy for me to say free as much as possible here on the farm non-medicated and all those things so we want to go as natural as possible and so i did a ton of research and watched other youtubers videos and their recipes on fly sprays and i just looked around here at what i have in the kitchen and to see what i have that i might be able to create my own recipe and then try it out and see how well it works so i looked around and i decided i'm gonna go with some organic raw apple cider vinegar um i've seen other people use not raw and maybe some white vinegar as well but i'm going to go with this and see how well that works i'm also going to use some all organic coconut oil and i've heard other people use mineral oil even vegetable oil or olive oil but i'm gonna go with the coconut oil because our dog gets hot spots in the summer as well and i like to actually feed him a tablespoon of coconut oil with his food and i also do a topical rub on the spots whenever they arise and it gets rid of them within two to three days so i know the coconut oil works so i'm going to use this all organic virgin coconut oil and i've already liquefied some two tablespoons worth is the equivalent to one ounce of coconut oil so i have that here and then you're just gonna need a spray bottle a glass one might be better but this one is just plastic from trusty dollar tree if you're part of my other um youtube channel i love dollar tree products it's only a dollar and so i have one of those lying around so that's what i'm going to use and i'll be able to mark this as fly spray so the kids and my husband know that that's what this is it's not for anything else and then i love doterra um essential oils i know young living is very popular popular as well and i'm gonna go with the peppermint and the lavender scent okay so i'm gonna be using 20 drops of each of these four cups of the apple cider vinegar and then two tablespoons which is one ounce of the coconut oil and i'm just going to mix all of that inside of here shake it up a bit and then we're gonna go outside to the barn and we're gonna try it out on the cows okay so let's get started mixing this up [Music] okay so now i have everything all mixed up into this bottle and what's really nice is now i have this other bottle to keep um the extras inside now there was about a half a cup of apple cider vinegar that i was not able to use because i couldn't fit it in here to mix everything up so what i'm gonna do is pour half of this back into here for another batch and then i'm gonna fill the other half up with water to dilute it a little bit and then we're gonna take it out to the barn and see how the cows react okay guys so now i've separated these half and half and i'm going to fill the remainder up with water to dilute it a little bit and what is really awesome that i just realized is that not only does this spray top fit on the dollar tree sprayer but it also fits on the old glass um apple cider vinegar jar and so i can store the second batch here in this jar and when i'm done with this portion i can just put the um sprayer right onto this glass one and use that one as well so that's really efficient and really awesome so i'm gonna go ahead and fill up the remainder with the water and then we're gonna go try it out on the fly hey guys so we are here out in the barn with our two steers and we're gonna try out this spray because these poor guys are getting um these flies all over them and especially that one back there he's got some spots on him where the flies have actually gotten down to the skin and he's bleeding a little bit i feel really bad for them this is our first year with cows so we've never had this problem before with all of this and we try and keep all of the manure scraped out and cleaned out of their bedding and water area and so we don't have too much of a problem there but uh he's uh rubbing on me he's such a sweetheart so i'm gonna just lightly spray here and see how this takes effect on these poor guys okay i see some flies still kind of good boy so i immediately see that the flies are going off where i have sprayed but they are returning and i don't want to spray this around their face because i'm afraid that it'll get into their eyes which may burn and have negative effects on them so but as far as his body if i can get a little closer i think this will um have a positive reaction here now you can see they they're pretty dirty and these ones did not come to us as babies they were already 10 months old and so that guy back there is especially kind of skittish and he doesn't come up to us as easily as this one here so it's harder to get close to him and i would love to give them a bath and wash them off to get some of the manure away but that has proven very difficult to try and do that actually was able to get on his side i don't see any flies there so i would say this is working if i can get up close and spray his entire body up on his neck and everything i think it'll really help hey guys so we're out here in the barn and i went ahead and sprayed them a little bit as best i could and i noticed a difference on where i was able to spray on their sides that there were absolutely no flies on that side now i would love to be able to get some more up on their neck and back and on their rump and back side and see if that would help and maybe some on their legs so i'm gonna keep trying um as i said they are a little bit skittish especially the one there at the back by the water trough and we also bought some of these heavy-duty fly trap um sticky strips and we noticed that over by the water trough that it is helping it has attracted some of the flies but uh not as best as we would like because they are landing on the cattle on the steers and causing some problems but uh overall they're still pretty happy cows i can just imagine what a nuisance this is for them and we're gonna try and control it as best we can and if you have any comments anything that has worked really well for you in your homestead or your farm please leave us a comment down below and let us know what has worked for you as i said we try and go all organic and pesticide free here so something that is a natural remedy for flies so please let us know let us know if you try that out this recipe and let us know how well it works for you i'm going to keep trying and i will probably come back and do another video and let you know how it's been working for us over the next week or so all right so we will see you all soon thank you so much for watching and we hope to see you again soon bye
