hello in this video i'll show you how i made my long furby this long boy has a vegan faceplate which means no original furbies were used instead i bought a 3d printed face plate from mr d's printed creations i'll be sure to leave a link to his etsy shop in the description box here's a list of materials that you'll need you'll need a sewing machine this could also be done by hand sewing if you have the patience fabric or faux fur of your choice for the body craft knife to cut the fur scissors and pins [Music] measuring tape wire or ball joint spine if you want a posable furby craft paint some type of sealant a strong adhesive the face plate optionally some felt if you want to add some feet and some wire all right let's get started i'm using a pattern made by boots with the ferb on instructables.com i'll make sure to add a link to them in the description below when getting your pieces ready to cut out make sure that you're paying attention to the direction of the fur this pattern has little arrows to indicate the direction which was very helpful for me now you're going to take your crafting knife and you're going to lightly cut through the top layer of your faux fur the reason being that you don't want to accidentally cut the long strands of fur below just the matting that keeps it all together you'll notice that i'm adding some seam allowance around the outside of this pattern i found out later that this actually was not necessary and my furby ended up being a little bit larger as a result than your standard long boy shape make sure that your crafting knife is nice and sharp you see me struggling a little bit to cut out my pattern pieces because my crafting knife is a little bit older in hindsight i should have sharpened it or switched out the blade but alas i did not cut out the rest of your pattern pieces and set them aside you'll notice that you need two of your front pieces and two of your side back pieces in order to cut those out make sure to flip over your pattern and then cut them out next you're going to take your contrasting fabric or in my case second color of faux fur make sure if it's fur you have the direction correctly aligned and cut out the belly piece with all of the main body pieces cut out now it's time to start assembling start with the center back sides and the side back sides and attach them to center back [Music] next you're going to take the side front pieces and attach them down the middle that's going to be the very front and center seam on the furby to make the seam as clean as possible i like to tape the fur to the outside of the seam so that none of it gets caught then i can just take a brush and smooth out the seam and it's almost like it's not there at all it's a really neat trick that i think i learned from watching other cosplayers working with fur now it's time to add the belly to the front piece of your furby i'll admit that this part was a little bit fiddly on a machine if you're not super confident with your sewing on a machine i might suggest hand stitching this front portion on it does get easier this was probably the most difficult part of the assembly for me personally luckily youtube has a lot of good resources for how to turn a corner on a machine i would highly recommend checking some of those out if you find this as challenging as i did however maybe it was just a me issue anyway now that the front is all assembled you can really see the furby start to take shape it's now time to add peats i decided early on that i wanted a counter furby otherwise known as a caterpie i just find the excessive number of feet's very very endearing basically you just cut out these tiny little shapes two pieces of felt a per piece uh flip it inside out and then add a couple little toe beans and there you have a peat time to repeat that step for as many different beats as you want your personal furby to have here's a clip of me demonstrating how i smooth the fur away from the seams and then tape the fur into place make sure not to place the tape right onto the seam or the tape will get caught in your seam and it can be a little bit difficult to remove later time to put your front and back pieces together and create your furby head um that is essentially the finished head [Music] time for some extra personalization i'm going to hand stitch these ears on if you want to know how i made these ears go check out the video that kimpatsu cosplay made on their channel i'll add a link to the description now that the ears are sewn on i can comfortably remove the tape and really start to see the furry taking shape i left the clip of removing the tape in because i find it to be a very satisfying part of the whole process smoothing out the seams and getting things to look just really neat and clean and professional very satisfying to me [Music] if you want to add a furby main or mohawk or any sort of hair tufting to the top of your furby's head that would probably be a good time to do it because next i'm going to be taking the little feetsies and hand sewing them down to the bottom it just makes it easier to keep them where you want them when you're using the machine to add the extension to the body now you are ready to begin lengthening your furby but first i'm going to show you how i decided to paint my face plate now you should know that i'm not exactly an artist i'm not really accustomed to using paints um and my paints are really quite old and a little bit chunky would recommend using potentially better supplies i also apologize for painting the furby off-camera so often i assure you you're not really missing anything i'll give you a close-up of the finished face plate here in a couple [Music] minutes [Music] here is the finished face plate i added glittery nail polish to different areas of the face plate and i added some sparkles behind the eyes now it's time to begin the lengthening process first you need to determine how long you want your furby to be mine will be about 36 inches because that's how long the armature spine spinous that i purchased i'll be sure to add a link in the description to where i bought mine i decided to assemble my furby in different segments to make adding in the rows of feet a little bit easier i determine that each length of segment will be approximately 9 inches next you need to measure how wide each segment will need to be first i determine that the belly will be about three and a half inches and that the body section will be about fifteen and a half inches cut out the pieces for your body and sew the sides to the belly using a straight stitch on your machine next you're going to add the body section to the head that we already assembled make sure that your fur lines up the belly section to the belly section right sides facing in and that the direction of the fur will be correct when you turn things right side out [Music] repeat that step as many times as necessary to get your desired length of furby in my case i needed to add little peats in between each body segment if you're not adding extra feet you could probably go ahead and cut a length of body as long as your finished product and completely surpass needing to make multiple segments altogether [Music] now that the body is your desired length you need to make a butt all i did was measure the circumference of the rear end of my furby divide that by 3.14 and then draw a new butt pattern stitch this piece on but only about halfway you'll need to be able to access the inside of your furby for adding the spine and face plate when attaching the face plate you want to make sure that the glue has a strong bond to the furby skin underneath so i just used some pins to mark out where i wanted to trim the fur a little bit shorter to make sure that the glue had something really good to stick to [Music] i also cut a small hole in the face where the face plate will go for added support i wasn't sure if the 3d printed plastic would be strong enough to hold with super glue so i also cut out a scrap piece of felt to help it stick to the fur a little bit better i'll also be adding wires to the back of the face plate that will connect to the spine armature that i'm putting inside of the furby you can see here that i'm going to now glue the wire down to the exposed face plate on the front side of the furby and add a strip of felt to the back for extra support now i'm simply going to twist those wires around the top of the armature spine here is a slightly better view of what that looks like when you're done now at long last it's time to stuff the furby keep the spine centered as you're filling up the furby so that it's not too far to any one side once your furby is as plump as you want it to be use hand stitching to finish up the bottom and now you're done anything you want to add now is completely up to you you can add body jewelry you can add other types of accessories as a finishing touch i added some fake eyelashes i really think that it makes the furby's face look quite complete i'm really satisfied with it i forgot to mention that i also painted my face plate so that it would glow in the dark i think that it's really a fun effect leave a comment if you have any questions and thank you so much for watching my video bye
