Simple Ways To Keep Your Shipping Container Off The Ground

this is what I typically recommend for a container that's going to be placed out in the woods six by six by eight landscape timbers if it's going on flat ground you can put one across the back and one across the front this containers been on these Timbers for about eight months now and the timbers are starting to settle into the ground so what I'm going to do eventually is get a carjack and I might have to dig some of the dirt out right by the i-beam to get the jack underneath it but I'll just jack it up and level it out to where I want it what I did here was I made the six bys flush with the front of the corner cubes of the container that gave me an overhang right here that I could use to buy tens to make a ramp which just clears the door locking mechanism so that way I can get my quad in and out pretty easily now the ground at the back of the container actually drops off so I had to stack three six by sixes because I wanted the container pitched towards the doors so if I ever go inside when it's raining it won't fill up with water because that can be a problem this is another Avenue you can take as far as putting in a foundation for your container and what they did here was they dug out all the loom or the topsoil and they put down a bed of crushed stone so the container sits right on the ground and it allows for drainage of water from underneath the container so it's not sitting in water the obvious advantage to taking this route is the container sits right on the ground so there's much less of a step into the container as opposed to using the six by six Timbers it's costlier another option is to place your container directly on asphalt which is I think that's fine because water isn't going to collect on the container it's going to drain off however keep in mind that the corner castings of the container are raised up from the rail the i-beam I don't know roughly a half inch or so and these corner castings will sink into the asphalt when it's hot out in the summer so if you're going to go this route you may want to block up maybe with 2 by 10 or 2 by 12 by 1 foot long roughly each of the four corners of the container all the way around just to create a greater footprint so that the corner castings don't sink into the asphalt if that's not an issue if you don't really care then you know you could just put it right down on the asphalt
