[Music] keeping things running smoothly inside of your RV can require quite a bit of Maintenance especially whenever it comes to Plumbing I'm Haley from RV pioneers and today I'll be going over a few maintenance tips that you should be doing periodically to keep your tanks clean and things flowing the first thing that you should be doing every so often is cleaning your freshwater tanks I do this about every 2 or 3 months because live in my RV but if you're just casually using your RV for road trips here and there you can maybe do it twice a year probably before your rving season starts and maybe halfway through or after your rving season ends you can clean your freshwat tank by taking one cup of bleach and mixing in with 1 gallon of water you're then going to take a funnel and pour this into your fresh water tank the same way you would fill your water tank and you're just going to let this sit inside of your tank for about a day or so you can also let it run through your pipes by turning on all of your faucets for a few minutes you'll smell a little bit of a chlorine scent as the bleach starts running through and that's how you know it'll be in your pipes to make sure that all of the bleach is removed out of your tank before you fill it with your fresh water you want to just set a hose with clean water into your fresh water valve and then just turn on all your faucets and keep them running until the chlorine smell is gone the other thing that you're going to need to do is clean your gray and black water tanks and I think this is much more important than cleaning your freshwater tank because debris can build up in there and clog your pipes plus the smell will come out of all of your drains and your toilet and you definitely don't want is that so I like to put one of these inside of my toilet and my sink drain and sometimes even my shower drain almost every single time that I dump my tanks what these are are little chemical packets that basically eat up all of the debris that is in your tanks and it also kills all of the horrible smells that can come out of your tanks this is probably the most necessary thing that you are going to need for your plumbing maintenance out of any other RV maintenance products out there another thing that you may need to do periodically is deep clean your black and gray water tanks to deep clean your gray water tank you're just going to pour the same bleach and water ratio that you use for your freshwater tanks down your sink drain and your shower drain to deep clean your black water tank usually there is a flush valve on the outside side of your RV where you hook a hose up to it and what that does is it basically sprays the inside of your black water tank with clean water to get rid of some of the debris and nasty stuff that kind of sticks to the outside walls of that tank if you don't have a flush valve you can simply just grab a hose drag it into your RV and manually spray out the tank by sticking the hose down your toilet which I have had to do in the past because my flush valve was not working at one point the last thing that you're going to want to do every year is winterize your tanks and this is something that you can take into a RV dealership to have done and it only really needs to be done if you're not using your RV over the winter I've never had to do this because I live in my RV so I don't have any problems with my pipes freezing up over the winter but if you don't do this and you let water sit in your pipes over the winter they will freeze and burst and you'll have a mess of problems whenever you come back to your RV and the next RV season if you like this video don't forget to subscribe because we will be releasing more awesome content on rving
