How to Install Kali Linux in VirtualBox (2024.1 Edition)

hey everyone and welcome back to the channel so in this quick video I'll be showing you how to install C Linux inside a virtual box so to give a quick recap as to what is virtual box and what is Cali Linux well virtual box is a software that allows us to install virtual machines inside of that software so we can actually use the virtual machines and second of all C Linux is a hacking Linux distribution designed for penetration testers as well as hackers in general who work in the cyber security industry so let's get back to the video the first thing we're going to do is open up our favorite web browser and we're going to download Virtual Box by just typing in Virtual box and we'll go to the downloads link to download Virtual box and depending on the op operating system that you're using you'll download accordingly but in this case I'm using Windows and it doesn't matter if you're using Windows 10 or Windows 11 if you hit Windows hosts it'll automatically download the associated exe file for that operating system so in this case I have already installed it but I'll just walk you through the installation process for the virtual box file because it is very straightforward so I'll double click on it I'll hit yes to the UAC prompt I'll hit next and in this case I would just hit next next next install but once you've done that the next step is to go to the C Linux official website by just typing in Cali Linux ISO and then we'll go to the first link that should come up which is at cali.org and in this case since we're going to be installing it using virtual box which is and we're going to be using C Linux as the virtual machine we're obviously going to hit virtual machines then we're going to hit the download link for virtual box because what this will do is it will download the C Linux ISO associated with virtual box so that we can have a proper installation of C Linux inside a virtual box so once it's done downloading I'll come back to the video so once the file has finished downloading all you're going to want to do is to head over to the location of the file in my case it was download to the downloads directory and we're going to use the szip program in order to unzip this file all you need to do is to go on your web browser and just go szip and the first official link should come up so you can go to that link and depending on the kind of operating system that you're using you'll download the file so if you're using Windows you'll download this file and in my case I was using it so I downloaded that file and now that I skipped through the installation steps I just hit next next next next on the 7zip installation I can now use it so once you've downloaded the file right click show more options seven zip and extract to Cali Linux 2021 virtual box amd64 so what this will do is that it'll actually extract all the files that are inside the archive allowing us to actually import the file into virtual box so it is almost finished extracting we'll wait for it to finish and once it has finished extracting what you can see is that the files are here this very big file is here so what we'll do is we'll go back to Virtual box we'll head over to new and this is where we're actually going to be installing the virtual machine for real so we're going to name the virtual machine in my case I'll name it Cali Linux I'll hit next and this is where depending on the amount of Ram or memory that your system has you'll want to adjust these settings accordingly but in my case I have a lot of RAM and the general rule of thumb is to not go over the green line but also in my case it just doesn't make a difference after you get over a certain threshold like for me it's um 4,000 megabytes the Improvement the performance does not improve for Cali Linux once I bump it up so I'll just keep it at 4,000 megabytes and at four processors for the CPU so once that's done I'll hit next I'll then hit use an existing virtual hard disk file and I'll click this button so that I can then browse to the location of the file I'll go to downloads and on here I'll double click the file I'll hit choose next and finish so the final step that we need to complete before proceeding to the installation phase is we'll hit settings we'll hit display and then we'll just bump this this up to 128 megabytes because that'll just help resolve some problems going forward so we can avoid those issues so with that said I'll hit start on the virtual machine so as you can see it is powering up the PM so we'll pop close that popup bubble and we'll make it a little more full screen so for now as the installation continues it'll be not completely full screen but I'll show you how to make it full screen if it doesn't do it automatically and the default username and password for C is just C for the username and Cali for the password and we'll hit login so with that said what we'll do to make this full screen is we'll click this button we'll click it again and there you go we have it full screen but to make it even better in case it's not already working well we'll hit the applications Tab and we'll type in D II and we'll hit enter and now we'll hit yes we'll try resizing the screen again to make this work any better and you'll probably just have to reboot in order to see the wallpaper so once it has install we can go into the full screen mode by hitting control right Control Plus the F key and this will make it full screen in Virtual box so from here the last step we need to perform really just to update our system just like we would on a Windows syst system to ensure that it has the latest updates and that it can avoid other potential problems is to issue the following command which is sud sudo apt update and sud sudo apt upgrade we'll type in the password of Cali we'll hit enter and this will install all the updates for Cali Linux and this might take some time depending on your internet
