welcome back everybody it's been a while since we got out a real video so hopefully you enjoy this one we are just going to show you how to get a glass-like finish on all of your rings so stay tuned and hopefully this is helpful for everybody here starting off you can skip this part this is just how i inlay my wood ring i the material i'm using is lapis which you can find on our website afghan lapis it has that super dark look to it it's amazing and then we added turquoise in there you can see the lapis we did a fine crush dust while the turquoise we had some larger pieces and use some also dust mixed in with it and then with the obsidian we also use fine dust as well i just find that the dust with the lapis and obsidian come out looking really good in the inlay well the turquoise always looks pretty good having some larger pieces so different materials different things and then you've seen this before if you've seen other videos of ours of just how we apply our finish this is get a dome look we add several drops let it dry and on this type of ring where it is on a core we're just gonna be pushing the finish off to the edges so that we can make sure to get a good good coating on the edges as well and with this stage sometimes we do use accelerator just a little bit of aerosol accelerator so we don't get it to fog up or anything like that be very careful with it alright once you have that going so this is the first stage of getting that mirror-like finish i was talking about i'm using a carbide tool and getting off any high spots to make the ring completely even all the way around if you look i'm not really taking off that much you can see where it takes off are all the high spots sorry i think our camera's got some moisture or water on it at this point so a little bit foggy so after we get the high spots i usually go to straight 400 and that will clean it up even better um and make it all the same all around from 400 we'll take it usually to 800 depending i don't always go to 800 uh it depends on the ring this one i feel like going to 800 and there's still some scratches you can see from the 400 on there and so with the 800 we will get rid of most of them and i am adding water to this as well also while keeping that little that dome shape of the original finish being careful not to go too far on the edges because we know that the edges usually don't get as much finish as the center and then we're going to bring it to the polishing wheel which we use this motion kind of a sideways down to a horizontal vertical motion just getting it all around with it we're using a zam polish on this it's a wax polish which means it if you buy it's going to come in a hard bar and then it melts onto the polish wheel and then goes onto your ring once you are polished up and you cannot see any more micro scratches you're going to want to go to a clean polish wheel where you're going to turn the speed down a little bit so it doesn't melt the finish and you're going to get all that wax stuff off any other extra residue that's basically it so the first step is bring your lathe tool to get all the high spots and then start with a 400 800 i mean you can go as far as you want 1600 2000 but with the zam polish it's just not necessary so hope you enjoyed the video thanks for watching this week guys thank you
