today i'm going to show you how to correct your exposure so they match between clips in your final cut pro x project so you've got your footage and some of the exposures between those clips aren't matching up i'm going to show you a super quick way using lumoscopes to correct that now i brought up an old project and put three clips in the timeline these clips were quite well shot in camera so what i've done is manipulate them to be either overexposed or underexposed so for the purposes of this lesson i can show you how to fix that the first thing you want to be doing is making sure you're in your color workspace so we'll go up to window here down to workspaces color and effects this will then bring up these four windows today we're just going to concentrate on the lumoscope so this one here so just forget about these for now we'll just concentrate on the loom scope now the lumoscope is a representation of the exposure in the shot it's important to remember that this here is red from wherever the playhead is however to adjust that clip you need to have it selected so yes this may read here but if you try to adjust it without it selected it's going to be correct in the selected clip so please make sure that the playhead is in position the clip is selected okay so firstly zero represents the shadows and 100 is the highlights now these waveforms represent the exposure in the shot if i was to move this shot you can see the waveforms moving and if you look up here you can actually see that's my client lloyd moving through the shot and those waveforms represent the exposure on him but as a guide what we want to be doing is keeping below the 100 with the exposure and above zero for the shadows so with the clip selected we want to be going over to the color tab here and having a color board selected if it's not selected just select it there and as i said these have been manipulated so we can correct them as i say they were shot in camera well so when you open your colour board these three circles will be sitting along this line here now the one on the far right represents the highlights the middle one is the midtones and the far left is the shadows now as we can see here the exposure is oh work quite a bit over the 100 so we want to bring down the highlights slider until these waveforms are sitting on or just below and then you can see here the shadows is quite high they want to be sitting closer to the zero so we bring that down and then the mid tones are sitting about right maybe we just give that a little bit of a touch but as you see as i lift that up the mid tones it's dragging up the shadows so you maybe just want to bring that down a little bit so you've got a nice even spread of waveforms between the 100 and the zero so this is a good visual guide going forward with every clip on this next clip as you can see it's quite well you can see from the photo from the image that is quite under expo oh underexposed get my words out so instantly i want to make sure that clip selected on the shadow slider i want to lift this also the mid tones are quite low but then that drags off the shadow so i want to bring that down again and then we've got the highlights already beneath the 100 same again for the last clip i'll just hide this panel here this shot again is overexposed so we want to be dragging down the slider here the shadows are sitting quite well there and the mid tones are about right as well and it's simple as that just by using this lumoscopes window we can make sure that each shot is exposed as correctly as it can be across the whole edit and this then makes your color grading uh more consistent across the project as well so as you can see it's not too difficult using the loom scopes to correct the exposure of your footage throughout the whole edit even if it wasn't shot that way in camera and as ever to be a typical creator on youtube if you liked the video and like to see more please feel free to subscribe to the channel thanks for watching [Music] yeah you just you just click there if you want to catch the old videos you can just click down on this one
