How to Equip a weapon in Unreal Engine 5 (easy)

[Music] what's up guys I'm just back with another very very simple and quick tutorial here today on how to equip a weapon to your character within Unreal Engine five so um if you have your own model it's perfect um do it that way I found the model here on sketch Fab and added it to my project I'll leave the link in the description for you if you want to use that one by all means it's fine make sure you have it imported um and then you can get started so what you want to do first of all is go to characters oh go to mannequins we'll open up the meshes we'll get the skm Quinn because that is the default mesh in a third person template let's maximize this screen we'll we'll um look down here and we'll add a socker to if I go to I want to put mine in the right hand so I'm looking for hand hand R I'll right click l a socket going to rename that socket um I'm going to call it weapon in case we want to add other weapons to this socket later on press W just move it down here a little okay um then what I do is I'll right click I'll add a preview asset I'll add my um static mesh which I need to change the size a little bit which is fine so I'll press e I'll rotate it first of all like so press R to rescale I'm going grab the white box to scale in all vertices at the same time bring it about here I mean it doesn't have to be perfect for this video obviously you can adjust it whatever way you know every model's going to be different okay but this looks good to me all right so I'll press save I'll close this I'll then go into the third person character blueprint and what we're going to do is click on the mesh we're going to add a static mesh like so and call it sword remember go into the viewport so we can see what's happening now with the sword what I want to do is over on the right hand side in the details panel I want to go to static mesh I want to add the katana like so it's lying on the floor but that's fine we're going to go to parent socket take the little magnifying glass select weapon and you can see that it's automatically snaps to the socket that we placed in our right hand like so press compile press three little dots here change the new editor window and you can see that it's sitting in our hand perfectly I run around the sword's still in my hand and it's there guys listen that's it it's that easy okay um please like And subscribe follow me for more tutorials on how to um use Unreal Engine 5 there going to be a lot of videos coming out and there is going to they're going to be very very simple basically so yeah listen I really do appreciate your time um thanks very much as would say please like And subscribe thank you bye [Music]
