How To Drive a 1940 John Deere Model B

hi we're in northwest Wisconsin and I thought I'd show you how to drive a 1940 John Deere Model B this is a 76 year old tractor at the time we're taping this and I'll show you the steps to driving it alright let's start with the throttle which is up here if you want to speed up engine will go faster if you push forward go slower if you pull back next is our shift and unlike in later years when you could shift on the fly in 1940 you could only pick a pick a gear and stick with it this is first gear as you can see second gear right here back to neutral and reverse is over to the left this is your clutch so as you slide it forward you'll ease it forward and you'll start to scoot forward as it engages and then click forward and you'll be in gear and on your way so I'll pull that off so there's also this which is our high-low so you have a one low one high to low to high so a total of four gears on this 1940 John Deere Model B this lever when you engage it you slide it sideways will start the implement rotating on the back of the tractor so also you should be aware that these are the brakes there's a brake for each large wheel in the back if you want a parking brake you'll engage that and flip this metal piece and slide it until it engages and that's a that's the 1940 era parking brake
